>>> hello, i'm j.c. hayward. thanks for joining us. right now, montgomery county police are trying to solve two problems in one major case. they are looking for the 11- year-old son of a woman found murdered in her germantown home. investigators found the woman's car. authorities have issued an amber alert for 11-year-old william mcquain. he was last seen at the family's home on september 30th. kristin fisher joins us now from germantown with more on the investigation. kristin? >> reporter: j.c., the victim is 51-year-old jane mcquain and the last time -- excuse me, right now, police are not trying to track down her killer, but they're also trying to find her missing 11-year-old boy. in the last -- the last time anybody saw him was 12 days ago. an amber alert has been issued for 11-year-old william mcquain. five foot teal, 85 pounds, the boy was last seen at his home on september 30th. montgomery county police are now trying to find someone who's seen him since then. >> we're hoping to advance that in the daylight hours, today, contact

>> reporter: yeah j.c. an awful story, but a story a lot of us are way, way too familiar with. a murder suicide involving a husband and wife. the husband turned up this morning about 9:30 at the front door of what used to be the national lutheran home. now it is just called the village at rockville. he checked in with security at about that time, he went back to his wife's room, she was an inpatient here, and sometime after 9:30, the staff here heard shots fired, people rushed back there, and they found both the husband and the wife deceased. the wife apparently had been a patient here for some period of time. she was in what they call subacute care. we don't know whether it involved alzheimer's disease or dementia or anything like that. but clearly, the people here very, very shaken. >> at approximately 10:00 a.m. this morning the husband of a patient receiving rehab services entered the building to visit his wife. a nurse heard shots fired and discovered both the husband and wife deceased. this is a terrible tragedy and we are deeply grieving for the family. our immediate con

. >>> hello, i'm j.c. hayward. thanks for being with us. right now, an italian jury is deciding whether to set amanda knox free. the seattle native is fighting a 2009 murder conviction for stabbing to death her british roommate. monique reports. >> reporter: amanda knox made a tearful plea to an italian appeals court begging jurors to set her free. she spoke fluent italian as she insisted she did not kill her british roommate. i am not what they say i am, she said. i did not kill, rape or steal. knox and her ex-boyfriend, raffaele sollecito are fighting a 2009 conviction killing exchange student meredith kirchner. a judge sentenced knox to 26 years in prison. but knox's lawyers say dna from the first trial should be thrown out. they're hoping the flawed evidence will persuade jurors to let knox go. the jury hear at the courthouse has several options. they can keep knox in prison and reduce her sentence or even lengthen it or they could decide to acquit her and set her free. knox's family says if she does walk free, they'll take her back to
