jamie leary is live at union station with the details for us. tell me everything is better this morning, jamie. >> reporter: everything is running just fine this morning. the first train left on time at 3:15 but the a-line has opened on april 22nd. yesterday's power outage left passengers waiting for bus service nearly two hours afternoon. this picture was taken by a state representative yesterday. it appears to be a broken piece of equipment on the rtd train. a family described loud noises when the outage happens and they say the piece of equipment connects the train to the electric cable and it just off. yesterday's outage happened around 2:30 in the afternoon at 61st and pena and passengers were bussed to the airport after that. despite the issues the train had, one man shares a sentiment that many passengers share about the a-line issues it's a great ride. it's 40 minutes and fast and it's five minutes from my house. no traffic. it's a great system. >> reporter: it likely won't happen this morning while you're you thinking then? >> i'll take

jamie leary has been on the scene since this morning. good afternoon, jamie. >> the westbound lane just behind me shut down and backed up for hours as police investigated. the woman's body on the shoulder just behind me. it's being investigated as a hit-and-run but it involves more than one scene. her blue subaru crashed into the dish. a 50-year-old woman yet to be identified. she drove through a sign and into the ditch. at some point she got out and started wandering around the car and died. a passerby saw her body and called them around 6:20 to report it. they are still trying to figure out who was driving the car that struck and killed her. >> that's the information we're looking for. if someone struck her, we'd like to find out what happened. >> reporter: police believe that she crashederer car between 5 a.m. and 6:20 when her body was discovered. they are urging anybody who saw anything to call the brighton police department. >>> a lafayette man vanished in january after leaving a job at eldora ski area. a deputy found his car parked

kenneth shepard was in court this morning and jamie leary is back the scene of thatir can you bring us to date? >> the 57-year old is facing 13 different charges and all of them related to arson. the fire here injured 11 people 5 months ago. you can see the building still uninhabitable. there's a restoration crew inside. kenneth did appear before a judge this morning but his arraignment was postponed today court he attempted to cover his face and the second time he insisted he represent himself. today we learned while in jail a public defender convinced her to let him represent him. she told a judge they needed time to evaluate him so the judge pushed back today's arraignment. investigators use surveillance footage to identify shepard when the fire started. he was seen g sheet on his head. he was seen walking away after the fire is started. kenneth shepard is still in jail on a $100,000 bond and will appear in court on september 22nd. we have reached out to the property manager to get an update to see if residents will be let back in. we have yet to hear back from them. >>> new details

jamie leary spent the morning in court. >> reporter: the preliminary hearing is still in session right now. 46-year-old kevin lyons sat quietly next to the public defender as the prosecution began. they started with the 911 call from april 4th. wife. she was critically wounded and the other was dr. ken atkinson. in the recordings, you can hear him trying to relay his location to the dispatcher. he tells the dispatcher say he's been shot in the leg. followed by multiple gunshots and silence. two investigators talked about the witnesses they following the shooting. all talked about how kevin was talking crazy while firing the gun. he was acting strangely and then he snapped. that's what the defense seemed to focus on. dr.ken atkinson's wife was joined by a large group of family and friends who have been supporting her through the proceedings. she declined to talk on camera. the prosecution has a list of call to the stand. the judge plans to get through all of them. and he'll then determine if there's enough evidence to send the case to trial. officials say that's likely going to be the c

jamie leary at water world now and she's taking a look at all of this. good morning, jamie. >> reporter: good morning, believe it or not, labor day weekend is here before you know it and that's actually one of the last weekends family will have an opportunity to have fun here at water world and given the tragedy in kansas we wanted to look into those safety there's 40 attractions here at water world. they told us there are no rides that require a harness to be worn and the attraction in question is more than twice the size of any attraction here at water world. the attraction they're referring to is the ride in kansas dubbed as the world's tallest water slide. water world also said they have that inspects the rides every single morning. the state of colorado also requires annual inspections and special insurance and that each ride be registered here at water world. this is a bit different from what has come out about the rides in kansas according to the topeka capital journal, the state of kansas inspekded rides at the park but not since 2012. -- -- inspe

jamie leary is live at the headquarters today to tell us about it. >> reporter: they were certainly getting a tough work out. 50 members of the military from various branches across the state were chosen for what usaa and the broncos call boot camp. they got to practice inside co was no slacking. these men and women gave it their all and had a blast doing it. there were five drills in all from one called the gant let to tackle. the drills are similar by the ones used to evaluate talent. it's one of the many ways they show appreciation for our local military. while some participants were a little out of breath, they were grateful for the opportunity to participate in boot camp today and appreciative of the and military. >> they had the mile high salute and they really cared about the troops and soldiers and sporting us. so they have opened up the facility and let us come out and be here and it's really good. >> they work close with us and support us. when i was deployed in afghanistan peyton manning came to visit and we did some tossing the footballs around. >> reporr: get to work out like t

it started in denver but ended cbs 4 jamie leary is at 20th and i-25 where this began. tell us about it? >>reporter: this is the area where the incident unfolded. they believe it may have been a case of road rage, the uber driver said the suspect started shooting at him for no apparent reason. they did not vehicle but that uber driver dead. his back window was shattered from the gunfire and he followed the car and said he tried to keep up at the suspects were throwing things out of their window to keep from following and grabbing whatever they could including children's toys. he could not keep up and they reach speeds of 130 mph. once the suspect hit northglenn police there pursued them. state patrol deployed stop sticks just north of colorado the chase to an end. denver police said that 2 people were taken into custody from the vehicle. a fedex driver became the unintended target of the stop sticks as well. he watched 2 people, a man and woman taken into custody without instead -- incident. >>reporter: the goober driver feared retaliation and did not want to talk on ca

jamie leary is life at union station now. soon people can hop on the ski train again. this feels good. >> reporter: not soon enough for me but yes, it's true. the train will be taking off right here from track four and bring you to the slopes of winter park. the resort and amtrak making the big announcement later this morning but they didn't want to it's called the amtrak winter park express. this is a second revival of full service for the train and like the old train, it will stop at the base of the ski resort. regular service went from 1940 to 2009 and was brought back for a few weekend trips in march of 2015. we were there last season when amtrak made a run up the hill. 400 tickets sold out in a matter of hours. the old ski train ended after issues with iowa pacific but full service expected to return and unlike limited service in last year of march, it's actually going to be running a few more times every weekend from january all the way through march on weekends so plenty of opportunities to take advantage of it. as far as the cost, we don't know that as of right

summer is over and cbs4's jamie leary is live from one of the bus barns in jefferson county. it's an exciting morning. >> reporter: yes, exciting morning definitely. very quiet here now. that's not the case in a couple hours. st school district superintendent is going to be here taking off at 6:00 riding the bus with students. he has an to visit middle schools and high schools and elementary schools throughout the district checking on kids and saying hello to them on an exciting first day of school. it will be busy on the streets. here's schools enrolled this year. 86,000 students. here's some tips to keep in mind. that's how many kids are headed know they seem obvious but it's a good thing to keep at the top of your mind if you're driving to work and dropping your kids off, don't double park and don't unload children from the other side of the school. car pool to reduce the number of vehicles at school and keep in mind it's illegal to pass a school but that is stopped to load or unload children. speaking of school buses, i just talked to a couple bright and early. don't forg

jamie leary has just stepped out of a news conference to talk about what they did. >> reporter: all of those agencies were in attendance to tout this incredible discovery including a lot of the undercover agents who had an inside hand on this seizure. the total amount of heroin collected, 47 pounds. that is not all seized. they also seized numerous handguns, assault rifles and ammunition and other drugs. the operation began in august 2015 and was dubbed the nickname of the main man behind the distribution ring over a series of wiretaps. he had a home in douglas county where he was finally arrested in july of this year. on many different suspects. the colorado attorney general spoke this afternoon and broke down the seizure by the numbers. >> 17 individuals have been arrested so far. 14 in colorado, two arizona, one in california. law enforcement has ceased 47 pounds of heroin valued at $2.2 million. we have also seized 1.4 pounds of cocaine with a value of we have taken three vehicles taken at $20,000 and 11 weapons have been recovered. >> reporter: multiple people have been arrested a

jamie leary is live and we understand at least one person had a gun. >> one of the people did have a gun. arop ho county sheriff's department looking for the four that are connected to this robbery. they entered right through the one of them wielding a long gun. police say they're looking for three black men and one female. the robbery happened just before 2:00 yesterday afternoon. the three men involved were wearing masks. the woman was not wearing a mask but investigators say they have no identification for her at this point in time. a neighbor told us a passenger in a getaway car was outside the store and yelled at the woman to hurry up and get in the car as her arms. they were driving a white four-door sedan about ten years old. police are hoping someone can identify the suspect based on the descriptions. two people inside the medical distense rio at the time and one was an employee and the other a customer. nobody was hurt fortunately. the arop ho county sheriff's office is asking anyone with information to contact their office. >>> happening today, a judge will sentence the man
