jeb bush is doing wunderbar. there are questions over whether jeb bush is doing enough to define himself with skeptical voters. besides fundraising is the charge that he is wasting part of this year accurate? john: if i was a supporter of jeb bush, i would be terrified, concerned, all of those at some level. he is raising a lot of money. money matters a lot. it only matters of it translates to the votes. if you go around in new hampshire and other places, it is hard to find the core loyalists jeb bush needs to win a nomination. yes to court to those voters. mark: some folks push back and say he is trying to define himself. there is a big cost getting in. the two biggest from me this is from republicans closest to bush, one is you cannot do find yourself in the same terms if you are not a candidate. this looks too cute by half. he is a full-time presidential candidate that is undeclared. it ruins his brand authenticity. john: he has issues with the base. i think he can get over them what he has to make the argumen

who, anyone say jeb bush, other than jeb bush, won the weekend? mark: i've got two picks for this, the first is iowa conservatives. not jeb bush, not chris christie, but almost every other major candidate and iowa. john: he is kowtowing. mark: all speaking a really conservative message. rick santorum talked about international relations and the economy. the rest of them talked about social conservative issues and it shows that while i think a more moderate person can win these caucuses, it shows that that part of the parties going -- party's going to be really catered to. the other is george walker bush got a great reception and shows within the party, he is really popular in vegas. john: not as toxic as he once was. i say sheldon adelson won the weekend. i mean, the guy. there is a sheldon adelson primary. he has his own primary. people came out to kiss his ring. he will continue to be a winner for some time. i will go far away and say that the big winner of the weekend was barack obama at the white house correspondents dinner. killing it, as he

jeb bush, among the donor class, is as strong as george w. bush this time in 1999.look at george w. bush's polling in 1999 and jeb bush's polling right now, it is a striking difference. i think rubio looks at that and says yes, jeb will take up a lot of the money, but are there actual voters for him and the answer so far very early is to be determined. if you are rubio, you will give it a shot. he has until late next spring to run for re-election in the senate. he has options. for now, jeb looks not vulnerable, but he does not look invincible. mark: can rubio beat bush and walker or does he have to be the last man standing if they have problems? can he go after them and take them down? jonathan: i think it is possible, but he would need to help. mark: for you -- jonathan: you will have nine or 10 candidates at least on stage and they will be going after a common target. mark: i'm using the metaphor of roller derby. they're all going to try to hit bush. where is rubio vulnerable? if people decide he is a threat, where is his greatest vulnerability? jonathan: i think

and jeb bush is holding a donor retreat in miami. what is the cosmic significance of these three big events? john: religious right still matter in iowa. money still matters. and jeb bush cares more about his donors than the national press corps. john: it is the first time -- mark: it is the first time rand did a iowa cattle call. he will show a video and then give his stump speech. that will be interesting to me. las vegas, george w. bush is opening for his brother. and finally jeb bush, i agree with you, the donors are really important to him. this group has a buzz that -- maybe not being as forthcoming with the donors. there was a call for some of the big donors where very little information was provided. it was a big opportunity for them to get donors and cage, like the obama and romney donors. done bang hearing about that kind of thing, there is arrogance and too much aggressiveness. they are flying people down to florida to try to pry money out of their pockets. and that the stores about the fact he was fund-raising by slowing.

because jeb bush has not established himself as anything but another bush. think, again, if he is successful at establishing his own identity and rationale for running, that will be the big question that makes the rest of the field settle out. al: jerry, your take on any of this? but also, how you rate marco rubio? jerry: i think jeb bush is the favorite until proven otherwise. but i personally think marco rubio can't break into it. he can play into many of the brackets, which is his advantage. he is a tea party conservative in many ways. he has a family-friendly tax plan that evangelicals will like. he speaks spanish. he and jeb bush can both check that off. he has established hawkish foreign policy credentials. put that into the package and put it on the stage and he will look good. that doesn't mean he will get the nomination, but can he play in the upper tier? i think so. al: i hate to bring up karen's ncaa brackets, but if you play the brackets, you may not be very formidable in any bracket. rand paul has the libertarian bracket. scott walker is the mid

jeb bush got into the race with a video. and she's a formal candidate, but those distinctions are meaningless. she does not want to have to do big performance pieces and talk to the press. i don't know how many takes it took to get that video, but she wants to play by her own rules. in the campaign staff has tried to say this is a slow rollout. the video executed that. it's a great place holder for her, even though it did not talk about why she is running. john: beyond the everyday people economics, is still very vague. we do not have a real rationale. they are saying wait until may and she will give a big speech and have to articulate those things in a full throated completely laid out way. there are hints of what they are doing here and they recognize it is a race as much as it is about mobilization. mark: and mayor de blasio refused to endorse her. part of the reason she did not make policy choices is because she does not want to alienate anyone in the party right now. john: james cut off my semi-profanity. i'm very upset

we can't forget the dynamic between former governor jeb bush and marco rubio. as a mentor to rubio and that tension right now certainly hasn't been made public. the field could get even more crowded, jeff tonight because now we're learning that a spokesman for mike huckabee says huckabee will make an announcement about 2016 on fox news. huckabee is a staunch conservative and also ted cruz and marco rubio are also in the mix as well. how does a guy like huckabee actually make inroads into this field or tell me about that. >> sure. the former arkansas governor mike huckabee hosted a fox show for several years. he went off the air earlier this year for getting ready for a presidential run. his aides say he'll make the announcement in the 6:00 hour. most people expected he will run. he's run before. don't forget in the 2008 campaign he won the iowa caucuses. he has a tried and true sort of record of that respect it the reality is time has passed him by a little bit in this big republican field. there are so many people he's competing with. so many people are in his
