chief meteorologist jeff ranieri tracking the air quality situation. seems like it's getting worse. >> right. and the hotter temperatures cooking the pollutants in the atmosphere and what i want to look at first is where some of the worst smoke is going. you see the flat fire up into southern oregon, it's pushing the worst of that over eureka. i see a small sliver of that again moving down the coast and into parts of the bay area through tomorrow's forecast. a lot of that is trapped in the mid-to-upper levels of the atmosphere. it's just primarily haze as you look towards the distance. but there is going to be one particular spot i see some unhealthy air tomorrow and that would be up towards the north bay. if you have any respiratory problems, especially in napa, you may need to limit outdoor exposure. otherwise, good air quality for the coast for us, moderate for the bay, east bay and south bay. so again moderate for most of the bay area tomorrow. i want to give new early warning if you are traveling to the east coast, they have unhealthy air again th

i liked your introduction where you talk about your brief encounter with jeff bezos. where you ask about his outfit. his answer was very interesting. it captures what amazon is trying to do in the retail world, applying new technology in an old retail market. talk a little bit about that. jason: my prologue starts with an anecdote, i meet jeff backstage at a tech conference where he was speaking. i knew i only had a moment or two. if jeff or an amazon leader is anywhere, there are a group of er leaders, publicity, not far behind. this was not a plan to encounter. i tried to get his attention. he had recently said in a magazine he was interested in amazon, a new business of selling their own clothing. i think it is a smart idea to ask him if he is wearing any amazon branded clothing. he did not get the connection, but he did come back. he talks about the idea that old-school retail stylists and personalization was based on one person's opinion. what if you melded the best of what a human can do in this space with what algorithms could do in personalizing a shopping exp

jeff: definitely. experience there, and i was at the university of washington for my book, it was really around the recruitment process. they had to get that funnel very big at the top to enroll the number of students they wanted. this requires working with high schools, working with high school counselors. there are 25,000 high schools in this country but the reality is that most of the colleges, you might only get applications from 6000 or 7000. most of the students they want our schools that never apply. they have to do a lot more outreach than they ever have before. for most of the schools, they did not do that in the past. william: i understand california spent half $1 billion trying to reach out to students. jeff: and they were focused mostly on california. most of these other colleges will have to look the on -- look beyond their own states. william: justice roberts in his majority opinion said diversity on the campus is a commendable goal not at the expense of others, was the implication. how d
