jennifer: jennifer crompton has details. reporter: boston's mayor and police commissioner had a chance to speak to the wounded officer this is morning, conveying to and of the officers who went in to save them. the d.a. describing the scene as a ferocious fight. two east boston officers remain in critical but stable condition after being shot while responding to a report of a domestic disturbance wednesday night. >> when the officers arrived, they were met by a victim at the door who had claimed that his roommate had pulled a large 27-year veteran of the force, matt morris, on the job for 12, both described as outstanding officers who ran into the east boston residence, confronting 33-year-old kirk figueroa. >> he quickly displayed a rifle and without provocation opened fire on our two officers. thankfully other officers were close by and they were able to neutralize. reporter: those officers are credited with pulling cintolo to safety. an officer who applied a tourniquet to a severed artery had just finished his shift. the

jennifer crompton, wmur news 9. jennifer: tonight a rochester man held without bail accused of selling a deadly dose of fentanyl. the fatal overdose happened back in june with ryan kirk's arrest coming this past weekend. andy hershberger is live in the newsroom with this. reporter: if convicted of this charge, kirk faces the possibility of life without parole. kirk appeared before a superior court judge today, charged with dispensing a controlled drug with death resulting. authorities say it happened in june when kirk allegedly sold a fentanyl dose, a lethal dose to a man in a rochester apartment complex where kirk lived at the time. court records say that one person witnessed the transaction and later watched as the victim took the drugs. prosecutors say they will continue to aggressively pursue cases. >> there was a lengthy investigation conducted by the rochester police department, they conducted a number of interviews and spoke with individuals who provided information which led to the arrest of mr. kirk. report

let's go to 7's jennifer eagan. she's at tufts medical center where we understand nine of them were treated, jen. >> jennifer: nine other officers suffered minor injuries or they came here to the hospital to deal with the emotional stress from the shooting being part of such a traumatic event. what they did was really unbelievable. commissioner evans says last night the two officers who were shot desperately needed help. the suspect and police were still shooting at each other, though. officers steped into the line of fire and dragged the two injured officers to safety. they then helped treat their wounds in the first critical moments. >> the officers with our wounded officers were able to quickly administer first aid, apply a tourniquet. one officer had his hand in one of the wounds. i think that was instrumental in getting the officer down to mass general quickly. >> commissioner evans praising those officers, saying they acted with extreme bravery and courage. jennifer eagan, 7news "today in new england." >> kris

jennifer: jennifer crompton reports that the adoptive parents of the girls in the sexual abuse cases hope that this shines a light on the system. >> these horrific acts of sexual abuse were 100% foreseeable and 100% preventible. and these two girls should never have been placed back in the care of these two monsters who inflicted this abuse upon them. reporter: attorney riley explains what he says happened to two little girls and why suing dcyf and easter seals for negligence. according to their lawsuit, in 2013, a year after dcyf took custody of the girls because of reported abuse by their father, a police department notified the grandparents and dcyf of an investigation into their biological parents. that alleged the couple had sexually abused other children in a homeless shelter. the the lawsuit claims despite that, dcyf allowed supervised >> during two of these visits the biological parents violently and repeatedly sexually abused nb, then 18 months old and j.b. then 4 years old and videotaped the abuse. reporter: the couple later pleaded guilty to child sexual abuse and child po
