talk about how the white house is trying to balance these needs for the conflicts but when there isn't a speaker of the house and a limit to what the u.s. government can do. >> jonathan expecting the white house to put out a supplemental request this week. this is something we have been waiting for for several weeks. initially, it was mostly seen as a package for ukraine. obviously, since this attack by hamas on israel, it's now started to include israel. it is expected to include both funding for ukraine and israel but also two other elements i think are going to be very important to win over republicans, who obviously did not support ukraine funding in the last measure we saw a few weeks ago, and that is funding for taiwan as well as border security measures, which have been a big ask for these hard line republicans. they have very much wanted to see that included. it seems the white house is willing to include. that. we've heard it from several republicans over the weekend, indicating it is part of the white house's request. they're using this now to reassure leaders in israel and, as you mentioned, at the end of the day, even though this seems like it would have

how hopeful is the white house that the events of this week could lead to that summit happening in san francisco? >> yeah, good morning, jonathanexactly right. in conversation i've had with white house officials, they've been optimistic an in-person meeting between the two presidents is likely for next month in san francisco on the sidelines of the summit there. i think this is part of a pattern we're seeing of increased engagement between american and chinese officials. obviously, secretary of state tony blinken made the trip to china. this is, you know, the reciprocal visit of that trip, and there is optimism this will continue, the two countries on a path to increased engagement, culminating, hopefully for u.s. officials, as they say in the in-person meeting between biden and xi. >> tyler, you were part of the press pool that traveled on air force one with president biden to israel last week. he has been having conversations with prime minister netanyahu since. they spoke again yesterday. give us a sense of the messaging from biden and also other senior administration officials to israel about the state and timing of a possi

and white house bureau chief at "politico," jonathan lemire, is with us, as well, the host of "way too early." jeremy, we'll start with you in terms of the conflicting information on the attack as, of course, there is efforts moving forward to create safe zones for civilians. what's the latest that you are hearing? >> first of all, with respect to the intelligence picture on that hospital bombing, i thought the united states did a terrific job coming out there very quickly and saying, based on three sources of information, overhead imagery, communications intercepts, and open source data, which is analyzed through powerful algorithms in u.s. technology systems, based on those pieces of information, we assess this rocket came from islamic jihad. i think the u.s. was pretty forceful in its pushback there. i take joe's point, and i've been talking about it, as well, it was reckless. it was irresponsible to let the lie get halfway around the world before the truth got its boots on. but this is an information operations war, and it is part of the battle space now, where you have to contend

jonathan, katie? crosand d.c. news correspondent kelly cobiella, thank you. >> for more, nbc news white house correspondent, allie raffa, joins me now. ali, you have learned more information on this tentative deal to use the wrath of border crossing for united citizens who are seeking to -- what more have we learned? >> a huge question that we have had since this conflict began a week ago today has been how u.s. citizens, these americans, would be able to get out of both of these regions? both israel, as well as gaza. both of them trapped on both sides of this conflict. today, this morning, a u.s. official familiar with the evacuation plans for gaza tells me that the u.s. has reached a tentative agreement with the egyptians, and israelis, to be able to use that rafah border crossing with egypt to allow safe passage for u.s. citizens seeking to leave gaza. we know that between roughly 500 and 600 americans currently live in gaza. of course, we can assume that some of them are among the roughly ion who have been displaced after israel issued that evacuation order. this official stresses that the situation on the gr

jonathan lemire, what have you heard from the white house about the efforts to get kevin home?, and he sort of prisoner situation, the white house does not like to say much publicly. they don't want to, of course, endanger anything going on. but there have been on and off talks, we know that the administration officials since evan was imprisoned, wrongly. we know from the state department that these bogus charges, there is nothing to them. we know that the president as signaled that he would be willing to entertain a prisoner swap to get evan home, but it's not quite clear what the russians would want in return. the one name that had been floated out there, is someone the u.s. doesn't even hold asian german custody. it's not clear whether that kind of arrangement could be made. but, even as the ukraine russia conflict slips through the headlines with a little bit here with so much focus on the middle east and indeed the hostages being currently held in gaza, i'm assured by u.s. officials that they certainly are trying to bring evan home and we sent his thoughts to his family. t

jonathan. we are right now just starting to see the contours of this package emerging from the white house.f what they anticipate to the coming from the house, which is a lot of resistance to funding and supplying aid to any other endeavor other than israel. it's a $2 billion package. as you noted, it's going to be spread across four different portfolios. ukraine, taiwan, border spending, and, obviously, israel. but starting on monday morning when we first started seeing house lawmakers come back after a very chaotic and tumultuous week where they have no speaker, lawmakers, gop lawmakers at least, said there was no need to tie this supplemental aid to israel to any other funding and that there is enough support to get something through with republican support at least on the house floor. senators are a different story, and that's why the white house is working with the senate right now on something. at the end of the day, the house isn't able to get any legislation or package jump started because of the current speakerless situation we're seeing play out. >> let's dive into that, jackie. a

jonathan lemire. and thanks for starting your day with us. we have a busy morning ahead, and let's begin here. donald trump's final white house chief of staff, mark meadows, has reportedly been granted immunity in the federal election interference case against the former president. sources familiar with the matter are telling abc news that meadows has met with special counsel jack smith's team at least three times this year including once before a federal grand jury. in those conversations meadows reportedly shared in the weeks following a 2020 election, he told then-president trump multiple times that allegations of significant voter fraud were baseless. he also reportedly admitted to investigators trump was being, quote, dishonest when he falsely claimed that he won the election, which he did in a speech just hours after the polls closed. despite allegedly saying those things behind closed doors, meadows has repeatedly claimed in public that the election was stolen including in his 2021 memoir. but abc news is reporting that when speaking with investigators, the former chief of staff conceded that even he doesn't beli

i don't know if you have this information, jonathan, but in terms of distance, the mass shooting in lewiston, and then where he left, allegedly left the white subaru with an assault rifle in it, where he potentially was found at the recycling center, are we talking five miles apart, or ten miles, or 50 miles? >> it is a, i know the bars were a couple of miles miles apart, the bar in the bowling alley, and i know there's a short drive, a few miles to lisbon, where he parked, and as for where the body is discovered, i have not been told specifically what recycling plant, what location is. i just looked on the maps with you, and there are as many as 30 recycling or waste facilities in lisbon. and they appear to be near that river. there are some wooded areas between the river and the recycling areas, depending on which one it may be. but no one has said it is at the recycling facility in lisbon. did he walk to another town? he's got 48 hours. the question is, how far did he get, and wasn't for the whole time? did he get in another car? what did he do? and so we'll just have to wait and hear from the authorities more of those details. it was th
