on sunday, thomas gilbert jr.up at his parents' apartment unannounced, asking his mom to go out and get him some food so he could talk to his dad alone. 15 minutes after mom left the apartment, she says she had a bad feeling, went back and found her husband with a gunshot wound to the head. she says the gun was lying on his chest with his hand on it. police say the son staged it to look like a suicide. the mom called 911. police converged on the son's apartment, and after a seven-hour standoff, thomas gilbert jr. was arrested. inside the apartment police found more ammunition along with empty shell casings and some equipment used to forge credit cards. the son has now been charged with second-degree murder. police also say thomas gilbert jr. was having financial problems and had no recent history of working but does have a history of drug-related offenses and recently violated a restraining order placed on him by a man he assaulted in the hamptons. the man who got beat up also lost his hamptons home to an arson fi
