we're on tv. >> let's get to meteorologist kari hall looking at the forecast. , how will it shape up for us today? >> hey, it looks beautiful for today. we've been talking a lot about earth week and i wanted to continue that discussion because we know that during this pandemic we've been driving less, flying less, and so that's also helping out our earth. let's talk about carbon dioxide, one of the gases we put out in the atmosphere as we drive and fly. it actually occurs naturally on earth. when we add to that it acts as a warming as the sun light comes in and acts as glass over the top of our atmosphere where heat comes in but does not escape. that's one of the reasons we've seen a climate change and some global warming that's all contributed to the fact we're adding more carbon dioxide to the air. but according to the bay area air management district they're saying they've seen a decrease in carbon dioxide by 26% over this past pont, and those other reductions from air quality and the particulate matter are about 26% because of the less cars traveling on the

. >>> meteorologist kari hall has been telling us what we can expect since this morning starting at 4:30. kari, you told us this was going to happen. >> we've seen the rain off and on, marcus, throughout the weekend, and it continues today. a lot of that rain has beenson fran on southward, as we take a look at the radar right now. we see those showers mostly south of 580, and we're tracking snow on the bay area peaks from mt. hamilton to mt. umunhum. as we go up the peninsula, we've seen rain for redwood city and hayward just south of livermore right now. it looks like we'll still see these waves of rain coming through for today as this disturbance, you can see it spinning off the coast, brings all of that moisture and even a chance of some thunderstorms as we go into this afternoon. so going hour by hour, here we are at 7:00 and it still shows a lot of bright red, indicating some heavy rain in the forecast for this afternoon. and once again, very isolated chance we could see some thunderstorms along with some small hail. i'll be tracking that along with more rain chances in tomorrow'

first meteorologist kari hall taking a look at the weather. how is it shaping up this week, kari? >> it's going to be very much like yesterday and then we'll see a cooldown. right now we're enjoying a beautiful sun rise as we take a live look outside in the tri-valley checking out dublin right now and our temperatures in the low 50s, now is the time to open up the windows, let the house cool down. it will open up for a lot of our east bay and north bay valleys as we see our temperature trend going straight up. a look at our micro climates and will talk about our temperatures peaking and going back down coming up in a few minutes. >> thanks, kari. >>> we have breaking news. a grass fire burning between interstate 280 and their good marshall high school in san francisco. our photographer just getting this video in for us. sf fire says the fire is burning near waterloo and conklin. we'll follow this breaking story and will bring you the latest as it comes in. >>> decision 2020, no surprise here, new this morning house speaker nancy pelosi, the latest big name in washington to endorse

first meteorologist kari hall working on the forecast today. how is it looking? know this week it was nice and warm, summerlike. >>> yeah, we're going to see more of the same today. we will have a cooldown as the week goes along. today and tomorrow it's still pretty warm. we are going to start out with some low 60s at 6:00 in san jose and then to the mid-70s. that's slightly above normal but will be very nice as we enjoy more sunshine and a nice breeze. some of our inland areas will reach into the low aids. i'll have more on this and what's ahead in the forecast in a few minutes. >> thank you very much, kari. fire sweeping through a san bruno apartment and residents are telling us what happened just before they were able to get out. sharon? >> reporter: laura, you can see firefighters are still on scene here. the fire is out but they are still here trying to collect more information on what caused this fire. over this way you can see that there are people who are wearing their masks waiting to get back in. they were up late since there's no work the next morning.

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that. the rain has come but is it gone?s the question. >>> it's not yet gone, marcus, and we had in some parts of the bay area anywhere from one to over five inches of rain. it was so great to see. as we head out today still need that umbrella. waves of rain come in. i'll be tracking that with another update in a few minutes and mike tracking the morning commute. >>> yeah, and light volume. we're looking at highway 24 eastbound at caldecott tunnel. an issue with a car stuck in the middle of the roadway. a couple chp units. some slick roadways as you head to south san jose. back to you. >>> thank you very much, mike. it's 5:31. the coronavirus sweeping the globe and a dire warning from the president and health officials here at home. it is going to get worse before it gets better. around the world over 1.2 million cases and nearly 70,000 deaths. in the united states alone more than 337,000 cases and nearly 10,000 deaths. now the epicenter remains to be new york city and that is where mayor bill de blasio is saying they may r

let's check the forecast with kari hall. we needed that rain. >> we did and we're in a moderate drought right now. and this storm did not disappoint bringing over one inch of rain for many of our micro climates and over 5 for the santa cruz mountains. we're still seeing it come down in the south bay and this is where we will have our highest chance of rain going into today and tomorrow where scattered showers will still continue but we're looking at a little bit closer look as we see the showers moving in right now. extending to fremont and up and down the peninsula as well. we're still tracking some rain. the possibility of thunderstorms between 2:00 and 6:00 this afternoon with heavy rain and small hail still possible. i'll be tracking that with another update in a few minutes. any issues for essential workers heading out the door, mike? >>> no major issues. we're looking out at muni. we have fewer of them. some cutbacks. a muni spokesperson told us to expect increased wait times today because there are fewer operators but

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the forecast.uess if people will go out with social distancing, sunscreen might be in order for today. >> yeah, and drink lots of water. try to get out. in dublin all bets are off. it will be a warm one. we're starting out with a cool morning with some mid-50s and we see that trend going up. by noon in the mid-70s. our normal high temperature is 71 degrees so we're going to be way above that. as we get a look at where we're headed for the day expected to reach into the mid to upper 80s. that's what we'll see. i wouldn't be surprised if spots like brentwood and fairfield hit 90 degrees today. and the good news is that we are going to have a cooldown. as we look at the overall pattern there is a storm system approaching. we will have a push of cooler air that shifts that wind over to an ocean breeze and that will help cool us off. the climate prediction center says here in the bay area we are going to have above normal temperatures and that will especially be the case across southern california with
