cnn's katelyn polantz has more it's a new lawsuit about something that happened decades ago, and it does accuse linda mcmahon and her husband, vince mcmahon and the wwe and its parent company of essentially allowing a to exist within their professional wrestling organization in the 1980s and prey upon underage boys who were being used at that time as ring boys. so this dates back to the time when there was an announcer with the wwe, then the wwf called mel phillips, and that man he is now dead, but he is accused of abusing boys and having fetishes toward them, something that even federal investigators ultimately ended up looking into. the big question here is what did linda mcmahon know when she was the ceo of the wwe, and when did she know it? >> at some point in time in the late 80s, 1988? >> linda and vince mcmahon, they fired mel phillips and then they brought him back to the company about six months later. >> and so now, because the state of maryland has changed its laws about when you can bring child abuse lawsuits, there are anonymous former ring boys who are suing mcmahon. the mc

cnn's katelyn polantz joins us now. what else have we learned caitlyn. >> yeah, pam, this is a new lawsuit filed in maryland earlier this year. but it's about things that happened decades ago decades ago, when linda mcmahon was still the ceo. and co-founder of wwe alongside her husband. vince mcmahon in this lawsuit it is anonymous plaintiffs bringing it against linda mcmahon, vince mcmahon, the parent company, and they are saying that in the 1980s, the 1990s, when they were as young as 12 or 13 year old boys who were serving as ring boys for the wwe. so ringside and helping out an announcer there that they were being abused by this man, this announcer, a man named mel phillips, who is now deceased, and what they're claiming in the lawsuit is that linda mcmahon and vince mcmahon knew about this sexual exploitation of these children that were affiliated with wwe and were turning a blind eye to it so that's the lawsuit. it is something that we have known about for many years now in the 90s, there was public reporting abou

let's get right to cnn's senior crime and justice reporter katelyn polantz. >> so what's going on here? caitlin, what has been learned and by whom exactly? >> yeah so some of what the house ethics committee has learned, john, comes from a lawsuit in florida where witnesses, young women were making statements under oath the same women who also participated in the criminal inquiry against matt gaetz. these women were at a party in 2017 where an alleged sexual encounter with an underage girl took place and they've never spoken publicly about what was happening, including potentially with gaetz. but in a deposition of a man who brought the lawsuit. this is a friend of matt gaetz attorneys asked him about what the woman women were saying in their depositions about a then underage girl having sex with matt gaetz while his friend watched about an array of drugs at the party. the friend of matt gaetz, christopher dorworth, suggested in his testimony that the women were making up their stories. and of course, matt gaetz is denying any wrongdoing, and he was never charged with any crime. but a s
