kemberly richardson is in soho with some of the exclusive details. kim? >> reporter: well, liz, witnesses tell me this all went down in a matter of seconds. first, let me show you what's happening behind me. have been waiting online since last night. they've been waiting to get into a clothing booth that sells t-shirts and sneakers called supreme. it's really popular with the skateboarding crowd. in fact, the victim, take a look this is a picture after the slashing. that 21-year-old man was inside the shop. witnesses tell me he had finished and come outside onto lafayette street. it was just after 2:00 this afternoon. the suspect, apparently approached, and tried to rob the victim, take his bags. the victim refused and the suspect pulled out something and cut the victim. the young man grabbed his face. the suspect took off on foot. sources tell "eyewitness news" he was wearing a ski mask. >> he ran up on him and said give me your stuff. he didn't want to give him his clothing, so the guy slashed him and ran. he didn't even take the item that the guy got f

kemberly richardson tweeted out a photo. she's live at the scene. >> he asked we not use his name or show his face. he's still shaken up. the father of three literally had to fight for his life as the passenger in the back seat of his cab repeatedly attacked him, stabbed him in the face, causing a gaping wound from his ear to bone and needed 60 stitches to close. jose picked up leolyn rowe. he said rowe was acting strange the moment he got in to the car, was slurring his words and having a heated argument with a woman on the phone. on amsterdam avenue and street, jose says rowe grabbed him from behind and started stabbing him. jose eventually did get out of his car. rowe was stuck inside and unsuccessfully tried to kick out the glass. rowe did get out of the car and tried to get away but jose kept going and eventually tackled rowe. police responded and took the suspect in to custody. rowe didn't try to rob jose and what set this suspect off. >> did you ever see the knife? everything was hard. eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson is live in rosedale with that story. kem. >>reporter: yes. and that van the key piece that's missing in this investigation, that van hit the victim right here, a 16-year- old young lady who didn't survive. the impact was simply too severe. now, at this hour police are they are trying to get in touch with her family. they do believe she lived nearby. now, authorities say it was just after midnight that the victim was heading across sunrise highway, walking in the crosswalk. a dark colored van was traveling east on sunrise highway. it was at about 12:17 a.m. the vehicle hit the victim and kept going. now, this is an extremely busy intersection right next to the railroad. >> i was coming off the lirr from work, and i came this -- that intersection there they always run the lights late at night. they have police presence that catch some cars, but these people just speed, and last night because of that little bit of snow that we had, that wet ground, maybe she was trying to run across, but she just didn't make it. >>reporter: and,

eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson is in crown heights where she spoke exclusively to a woman who saw the victim after that stabbing. >> that young lady said she was in shock. she had no idea what happened. this 25-year-old victim, she covered with blood and she could clearly see a slash mark in the back of his coat. right now police are out here in this neighborhood. they're looking for more surveillance video. they admit that the video that they have so far isn't that great, but take a look. this is a screen grab from that surveillance video. it's the suspect. he was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt. he was last spotted running south on albany street. this random stabbing happened in front of 646 empire boulevard at about 11:45 this morning. the 25-year-old victim does not know his attacker and didn't say a word to him. still police say the suspect stabbed the man in his back. the victim, who was dressed in traditional hasidic garb, was able to stumble quite a ways in to a check cashing place. just a short time ago i spoke by phone with the employee who helped the victim

eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson is in the courthouse in pennsylvania. she'll have a report coming up at 5:00. >>> two families filing a lawsuit against metro north after a crash in west chester county that killed six people and injured dozens of others. the accident happened when a suv became boxed inside the railroad crossing. and on this one-year anniversary of this tragedy, brody's husband what this year has been like for him and his family. live. >> reporter: they will read the names of the six victims killed in that crash. here it will be at mount pleasant town hall. the memorial will be moved indoors because of the inclement weather. but yes, it was a year ago that five passengers on the metro north train were killed when it crashed into a car that was on the tracks. the driver of the vehicle, ellen brody, was unfamiliar with the crossing and didn't realize she was on the tracks when the gates came down. brody was killed in the the crash and subsequent fire also injured 15 others. families of the victims have filed lawsuits against metro north and

eyes -- witness reporter kemberly richardson is there for us now. >> hours of testimony, one hostile witness, then bill cosby. all right now inside continued. bruce caster, the man who allegedly brokered that immunity deal for cosby. he is a defense witness, at one point he barked at cosby's lawyer, quote, i'm not on your team. >> reporter: bill cosby walked in to the courthouse well aware this hearing can make or break it when it comes to the felony sexual assault case against him. at issue, what did or did not happen back in 2005. in 2004 former temple university employee andrea constand maintains cosby violated her here inside his mansion outside of philadelphia, gave her wine and pills that left her unable to move. he denies it and criminally charged. things were far from over. nearly five weeks ago charges were filed against the 78-year-old just before the statute of limitations expired. cosby's current legal team is those charges, saying back in 2005, cosby's former attorney made a deal with bruce castor, giving cosby immunity from ever being criminally prosecuted in this case.

for now we're live in union square, kemberly richardson, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. >>> cefaan kim is live in jersey city tonight where the cold weather made conditions difficult for firefighters. cefaan? >> reporter: well, joe, just to give you a sense of those difficult challenges those firefighters had to face today, take a look at the wires and tree limbs out in front of this building. covered in ice from the frozen ice from the water that those firefighters threw on to this blaze today. fire officials say the water was freezing as it was coming on their hoses but luckily, several other fire companies showed up and they were able to get this fire under control. this morning here on marion place, the fire started in a first floor bathroom and the back of the building then spread quickly because of the high wind gusts in the building next door and upstairs. it took 70 firefighters to get it under control and three of them were injured but they will be okay. no residents were injured but four families are now displaced. among them, several young children. >> our friend

kemberly richardson is in philadelphia, and she spoke to a man who was sitting next to the window that shattered. her exclusive interview is coming up on eyewitness news at six. >>> eight months of investigation. answer about why an amtrak engineer was going twice as fast as he should have been, causing an derailment. jim hoffer with the latest. >> reporter: what the report tells us is that the engineer is remembering more about the fatal crash. the engineer describing how he felt the train tilting over, saying quote, i felt a sensation that the side of the locomotive lifting up. no smoking gun, it does rule out track, and safety issues. we learned more about the engineer in the 106 miles per hour fatal derailment. brandon bostian had little hands on experience with this model train. when asked by an investigator did you operate the locomotive previously, bostian responded sporadically, very very sporadically. he initially tells investigators he has no six months later he tells them in detail, he remembers accelerating on the straight away, and i don't remember anything from that point

kemberly richardson, channel 7 eyewitness news. >>> today's slashing in soho is just blocks away from another slashing at a restaurant in greenwich village. the nypd just put out a picture of the teenage suspect they're looking for tonight. darla miles spoke to one witness who believes he saw the suspect right after the attack. she's live with new information. >> that's right, the one witness i spoke to said that the teen that he encountered was laughing about the whole thing and that's really disturbing considering police say this teen was in the restaurant, asked to leave, and came back and committed the slashing. >> he was with three other people and he was bragging about how he stand someone. he said the guy's mouth was big so he says i stabbed him. he kept saying it. >> reporter: 120 stitches for a bus boy at silver spurs, all for david reid walks about a block away from the greenwich village staple on laguardia place. he said he overheard a group of wednesday. that's around the same time police say a 15-year-old boy got kicked out of the diner for going table to table asking for
