it was a resounding victory for ken paxton.e voting on the 16 articles of impeachment, only two of them voted to convict ken paxton. he was acquitted on all 16 of the 20 articles of impeachment brought in the trial. the other four charges were dismissed. paxton says he is ready to get back to work. >> this is a trial that should have never happened. period, full stop. the right result happened. but it shouldn't have gotten this far. >> we are proud of the case we put on. we should not have had to prove our innocence, but that's what we did. we believe that the court reached the right verdict. we are very proud of the work we did. >> reporter: this impeachment vote erupted what can only be described as a civil war among texas republicans. the republican lieutenant governor, dan patrick, who oversees the senate, after the trial spent several minutes for voting on these articles and bringing these charges to the senate side. on the house side, the speaker of the house, shot back at dan patrick saying it was clear, based on the spe

so his trial begins today. >> ken dilanian, thank you for those updates. and now to georgia, where there is just one day left for the seven remaining co-defendants in the fulton county election interference case. among those who haven't entered a plea are a couple of big names including mark meadows, and former department of justice official jeffrey clark. joining us now, greg bluesteen and carol lam and danny cevallos. danny, let me start with you. what do we expect to happen with the arraignments and what are the next steps following that? >> some jurisdictions require people to show up for arraignments. in jurisdictions where you can waive arraignment and enter a plea of not guilty without showing up to court, i virtually always do it with my clients. i can't think of an instance you wouldn't want to do it in a high profile case like this where you're going to be subjected to a press, you know, people photographing you and videotaping you as you come into the courthouse, i can't imagine why these remaining defendants haven't simply waived arraignment, e

what does he have to say, ken? >> a typical justice department statement that simply recites the fact of the indictment that we have been talking about for the last hour. it does say at the end that hunter biden faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison on these charges but of course he notes as they always do, actual sentences for typical crimes are less than the maximum penalties and of course a judge will determine any sentence pursuant to u.s. sentencing guidelines. obviously he's not going to get 25 years in prison, but these are felonies and now some of our guests have been talking about the potential for a plea deal that still could happen once these charges have been brought but the fact that the charges have been brought changes the situation a little bit. it's generally, as a rule, the justice department, once they charge a felony, they demand you plead to a felony if you're making a deal in that case. before, there was no such term on the table. he was going to go into a diversion program, this charg

ken, you know that sequence. they looking into her relationship potentially, whether there is or is not, with the egyptian government? >> that's our understanding. they are looking at that question. it is remarkable, just shortly after he gets clear of the previous corruption case, the justice department announces they are not retrying the case, his soon to be wife meets him in a union city, new jersey, ihop. five months later, they are engaged to be married. according to the indictment, she introduced him to the egyptian american businessman and to another figure who he is accused of intervening in a criminal case. these were not friends of his. they were friends of hers. at one point in the email and text chains, the egyptian american businessman referred to the senator as our man. that's the kind of language. he had connections to the egyptian government. that's the language that will peak the interest of fbi counterintelligence officials who are trying to make sure this is in addition to an alleged bribery sc

despite all of that, ken paxton is still facing serious legal issues. he still has an upcoming trial for state financial securities fraud, a trial that is perhaps -- could be starting here in the coming weeks. he is under federal investigation with fbi agents stemming from the investigation that brought these articles of impeachment against him. but his attorneys say that this acquittal today should send a strong message to his supporters. >> he still has the pending state case. i expect that in light of today's verdict to have some serious -- those people ought to think about going forward on that case. that's been a bs case since day one. that case like this one should have never been brought. they ought to dismiss it. if they don't, we'll beat them there like we beat them here. >> the attorney general is excited and ready to get back to work, and that's what he's going to do. >> reporter: as ken paxton is saying, outside of the statement he said he's planning to travel to the state of maine next week to interview with tucker carlson. and really what
