ktvu's kraig debro joins us live from the crash scene. kraig, we understand one school is affected? >> reporter: one school is affected. you can see it over there behind where they are working on that power pole. the past hour hour or so, pg&e has replaced the power pole. they have a new power pole and basically, they are cementing it to the ground. right over here, this is a bus district yard over there. i asked the guy over there, was bus service gonna be affected? he said no, the computers are down. that's not a problem. but i found out the school headquarters are other there -- headquarters are over there. there's no power there. we know one of the schools without electricity is kamballa academy. after 8:00 last night, according to police, there was a vehicle driving by in neighborhood on camden between union and and -- and baskem. it snapped in half. that power was not only connected to homes but it knocked out the school's power. that vehicle kept going. it was a white suv. it ended up in somebody's yard. it's still on the scene. that vehicle eventually came to a stop. the dri

kraig debro is on the scene where there is still a ramp being blocked. >> one of the suspects is right here. they're taking him out of one patrol car and putting him in the other. quite a story. quite an explanation as to how the suspects came up the, what would be the 98th avenue, 880 southbound ramp. they actually came up in the northbound direction, the opposite way. chp sergeant on the scene told me this began with cash rally chp trying to pull over a car, still on the scene, eastbound 580, eastern castro valley. the suspicion was dui. the car initially tried to pull over or slow down as if to pull over, but then kept going. from there it was a wild chase. to dublin, got off the freeway, turned around, starting going westbound on 580, at some point, the suspects were on 237 and got to 880 over here. as to how they got on this side of the roadway, that's unclear. the sergeant on the scene told me they stopped on the highway and turned around to get onramp, but it's not exactly clear what happened. once on the scene here. i'm told by firefighters, one of the suspects was tasered by o

kraig debro is joining us live from the creative arts charter school. kraig? >> reporter: kids are not too broken up about the extra day of vacation. but you may recall december 22nd, this is one of the three buildings that burned in the fire. you can see some of the boarded up window frames but in the back you don't see the tall window chimney which was teaterring about ready to fall onto the school. this school was already under reservation -- renovation but because of the chimney damage they suffered, they are deciding to push back the start of the school day because of renovations. now according to the school principal, $25,000 worth of damage was caused to the school and you can see the construction stuff is still in the parking lot. they are still continuing to work on the school, but what they will do until they can remedy the situation, it is a little hard to judge from here and they say they need supplies that got knocked out from the fire on december 22nd but right now school is starting tomorrow because the principal says he simply wanted to bring t

debro, kraig?> reporter: they are still closed, take a look across the street. you can see pg&e crews are working to get that power pole back into the ground. the school located behind where that power pole is will be down all day. not only the pole will be down but the transformer that supplies the academy will be affected. the impact cut the power pole in two and knocked out power to five other customers. the customers are back online now but some are still not online. it continued for 50 yards crashing into somebody's front yard. the driver was not hurt in the crash and was not cited. most people should have power back on by noon but the school needs a new transformer and that could take up to 8 to 10 hours and if that does not go smoothly they are looking at canceling another day of school. >>> the epa's is suing a company located at the port of redwood city. this company shreds about 100,000 cars a year along with appliances and other products. they are responsible for a major pollution proble

kraig debro was the first to tell us about this story, right at 4:30. craig, what's going on? >> the chp has cleared the scene fairly quickly. that is typically how they work. they investigate quickly and then they get the onramps of the freeways clear for the morning commute. this was a dangerous situation. the suspect, this is the onramp to southbound 880 at 98th street in oakland. the suspect actually made a u-turn while on the southbound direction and tried to come up this off ramp. this onramp, rather. this all started at 3:45 this morning. chp tried to pull over a suspected drunk driver. they said the driver began to pull over and decided he wasn't going to stop, took off, kept going eastbound, got off in dublin, then turned around and came back in the westbound direction of 580. went on 237, then got to 880. when he got off on haganberger, he started going southbound on 880 and came up the wrong way. one of the people in the car was taken away in an ambulance. second person actually was searched by police and they eventually put what is called a spit bag over his head b

ktvu's kraig debro is now there to tell us about an already emotional morning. kraig?hey, good morning, dave. i just ran back across the street from cooper's chapel in the 1500 block of fruitvale. the guard told me -- we were watching people go in the church. the family members are arriving here at the chapel bringing -- bringing food in. i did speak with somebody from the family and she was very adamant that the media was not allowed in the chapel. the father of the boy does not want to talk to anybody. he's very, very upset. he was standing next to his father's tahoe -- taco truck on international boulevard around 8:30. it was a friday night. he was shot. police don't believe he was the target of the shooting. it this doesn't make it easier for the family to take. a memorial immediately sprang up at the location and that brings us essentially back here. it's already underway. tomorrow the funeral is scheduled at st. mary's here in oakland. the time is yet to be determined or at least given to us. >>> oakland police are investigating the first shooting of the year. it

kraig debro told us this person was taken into custody. what else have you been able to learn? >> reporter: i learned that this all started around 1:00 in the morning with santa clara county sheriffs deputies pulled over a car that is just right there. the black car. it's a coop. don't know what make it is. basically after they pulled over this car the driver started to run. here to fill us in with what happened is sergeant jose. when did you apprehend the suspect and where? >> the suspect was apprehended 20-30 minutes ago in this area where the original car stop took place. >> he was hiding out here in three hour. >> yeah. the occupies remained in the vehicle. as we are look for the suspect and talking to the occupants. between that time we had help from local agencies that brought a canine unit over here. he was hiding near shed. took him into custody. no problems. he has been transported to the jail. >> reporter: what are the pending charges? >> at this time charges are going to be possession of stolen property. there was items inside the vehicle that are stolen at the time.

morning, kraig >> reporter: i've been talking to school officials and parents this morning.rding to the district, they sent home a letter with the kids yesterday. we've yet to speak to a daytona who received the -- parent who received the letter. parents are here to ask questions about the horrible allegation. one of the teachers here is accused of assaulting a child. craig chandler has been teaching at this school for nine years. he's 35 years old. right now he's in the santa clara county jail on these charges. according to court records, he's supposed to be in jail on friday. according to some of the district officials here, again, they say they sent home a letter with kids yesterday for their parents but again we're still trying to figure out if that letter -- where that letter is and what it says. district officials will not tell us this morning if the -- the victims in this case or victim this this case are actually students at this school. an assistant superintendent again, we spoke to this morning, we also spoke to another person with the district and says the kids he

kraig chandler has been teaching at the elementary school for nine years but they are not saying if the alleged victim is a student at the ask. police are asking anybody else who may have been victimized by chandler to come forward. >>> drug sniffing police dogs will be patrolling high schools in pleasanton. we have someone at the high school to tell us about a possible crackdown, know well? >> reporter: they are looking at an increase over drug related alcohol suspensions and what to do about it? well school trustees met to consider using drug sniffing dogs as a deterrent. they have two dogs to sniff out marijuana and other narcotics so it will not cost the school district anything and this comes on the heels of the parents concerned about drug use. last year the school had 45 drug and alcohol-related suspensions and this year that number is 63. there are three high schools in the pleasanton high schools district. and the proposal is to use these dogs during times that the students are not in school and they would be used around the school grounds and in the locker rooms but again not
