nbc bay area's kris sanchez is going to join us from san francisco. more from the high-from file voices calling for action. >> hi there, marcus. so this violent crime has really unnerved a lot of people here because without knowing who the suspect is nor whether or not this attack was targeted or it was random, people just don't know what to make of it. we did see the memorial near where bob lee was murdered on tuesday morning at 2:30 in the morning as he was walking on main street near the embarcadero. we talked with a few people who live in that area. they tell us that they expect to see property crime in their neighborhood and they see their fair share of people who seem unwell or off balance, but a violent stabbing does come as quite a surprise. >> i've been here for 18 years, and it happens once in a while, but it's pretty rare, that type of, you know, maybe robberies more, but murders, rarely. >> so the crime statistics do back that up. between 2019 and 2022 these are the numbers for the crimes in san francisco. there's been a 14% decrease in vi

"today in the bay"'s kris sanchez is joining us live from the police officers association with more on what will happen here. kris? >> reporter: hi, marcus. that question has been an ongoing drum beat since joanne segovia was indicted, whether or not she was working alone, how could this happen under the noses of the police officers union and was anyone else complicit. folks at the union say no one else is under investigation, but there are a lot of community groups that want to know and they want more transparency. joanne segovia was in court on friday, but today the naacp of silicon valley, silicon valley debug and other human rights and community activists will call for that transparency about the drug trafficking charges against the 64-year-old. the san jose police officers association president told me that she was considered the grandpa of the poa for her work with officers and families in sometimes their worst times. segovia is alleged to have received 61 shipments of a synthetic fentanyl from overseas, which then she allegedly distributed to other states, sometimes using union

i'm kris sanchez. marcus and laura are off. >>> our top local story now, the mom accused of hosting those wild parties for young teens appearing before a judge today. nbc bay area's pete suratos was in the courtroom as proceedings started this morning. prosecutors laying out some pretty disturbing details in those allegations. >> reporter: yeah. definitely some disturbing details and emotional statements from some of these victims, kris. the court hearing did just wrap up, and shannon o'connor, who we're talking about here, that so-called party mom from los gatos, she was in court today. now, the district attorney did present some of that witness testimony for the judge to consider when it comes to sentencing o'connor. just some background, she previously pled guilty to dozens of charges, 39 charges all together, and those charges include child endangerment, providing alcohol to minors, as well as sexual battery. but today was all about these witness statements. i want to talk about some of the testimo

kris sanchez is breaking down the hotly contested issue from both renters and owners. >> reporter: oakland's eviction moratorium is on its last legs. landlords could start evicting people who are behind in their rent as early as next month, unless something changes tonight. tonight, oakland city council members will finalize the wind-down of the city's eviction moratorium, which has been in effect for three years now. the moratorium is set to end july 15th, but tenants who are behind in their rent could be evicted in may if they cannot prove their late rent is covid related. the council may block landlords from evicting tenants who owe less than one month's rent. people still can be evicted for just cause if landlords can show substantial damage or unreasonable behavior. some landlords were pushing for balance, saying some renters are really abusing the protection policies and leaving them holding the bag. >> we're proposing a phase-out approach we think is reasonable and thoughtful in terms of avoiding an eviction cliff that could lead to dramatic homelessless and allowing certain evictions

kris sanchez is live from the newsroom on the ongoing search for a killer. >> the video is hard to watch, but we want to show it to you because whoever stocked bob lee to death is still at large. again, it is disturbing. in the surveillance video obtained by dailymail.com, we see bob lee collapsing after he was stabbed. he attempts to use a doorbell and a phone to call for help. he's also seen trying to flag down a car passing by, but the driver did not stop. we talked with someone who lives nearby in the neighborhood who says with crime being what it is in san francisco, he can understand why someone might not feel safe enough to stop many the middle of the night for a stranger. >> you have to be careful who you open your door to. there are a lot of scammers that just hang around, especially after 1:00 in the morning. you have to be careful what you're going to stop a your car and get involved with. >> there is a memorial near where the 43-year-old died, and person who worked nearby that crime scene told us that san francisco police did recover a knife nearby. while police aren't confir

. >> "today in the bay"'s kris sanchez is joining us from the newsroom with more on the calls to make the fruitvale district safer. >> oakland councilman noel gallo is one of the voices calling for greater safety in the district. i want to show you numbers, a look at crime activity in a one-mile radius from the fruitvale b.a.r.t. station over the last four weeks. you see lots of spots. there were nearly 300 reports of crime. nearly a quarter of that is the area in red that represents 75 assaults. those are the most serious crimes. but the most prominent crime was motor vehicle theft, that's the area in purple. that represents more than 90 crimes. councilman gallo already got oakland police to designate a liaison officer specifically for fruitvale and the unity council hired 24-hour armed security to patrol the area. but now the community leaders are pushing for more creative solutions as crime has ticked up over the last year. >> just trying to keep the temperature down and to support the merchants and, again, a lot of the children and students and seniors. >> now, the first of two pu
