nbc's kristen welker is at the white house for us this morning. the president is going to be speaking in less than an hour. give us a briefing about what he's going to talk about today. >> reporter: good morning, thomas. he's going to do a couple of things. first he's going to call on congress to pass the portion of his american jobs act that will provide tax breaks for companies who hire veterans. and the second part of what he's going to be doing is basically to announce two new presidential actions. as you know he's been rolling out he's presidential actions basically saying that if congress is not going to act on his american jobs act he is going to act to try to put americans back to work. as you know, republicans basically have been accusing him of playing politics for this. but today's actions are twofold. first he's going to announce a veteran gold card, which will essentially give veterans the ability to have six months of training, career, counseling at a career center to basically help them get back to the workfor workforce. the second

thank you kristen. >>> the secret service and fbi are questioning a man. his name, oscar ortega hernandez. bruce leshan is live in our satellite center. this is still a breaking story. bruce. >> it is. pennsylvania state police say that the desk clerk at the hampton inn in the small town of indiana, pa, actually stalled ortega while workers alerted the authorities and they say it took troopers just minutes to arrive and sweep him up. the secret service and the fbi had been distributing this picture of ortega to hotels around indiana, pennsylvania, where ortega had stayed weeks ago with a friend. when state police picked him up in the lobby of the hampton inn, he was cold and wet and wearing exactly the same clothes as in the picture. >> he was patiently waiting in the lobby when we arrived. he did not make any comments other than he wanted know why he was being taken into custody. >> investigators at the white house carefully checking a window in the yellow oval room just outside the president's bedroom. the secret service says around cracked one window, b

. >> one place in particular feeling the strain, kristen fisher reports the food bank is in danger of shutting down. >> we have a family of three. >> reporter: gabriella rosa and his family of three are on their twice a month shopping trip to the food bank. >> basically food, vegetables and produce. >> reporter: he has been unemployed for two years. so his family, including two-year-old isabella, has come to rely on the groceries had he get for free. >> the food bank is a big help. >> reporter: but the food bank's in trouble. >> our issues are money. >> reporter: last quarter, their federal funding was cut 80%. >> we have utilities to pay. we have rents on this building to pay and we have salaries to pay. there could be a danger of us closing all together. if our funds aren't, if we don't raise the necessary funds. >> reporter: this may look like a lot of bread, and it is. but by the end of today, almost all of this bread will be gone. the food bank services between 40 and 60 families every day. last month alone they served 2,000 people and 800 of them are under the age of 18. >> a lo

nbc's kristen dahlgren has our report. >> reporter: it is one of the country's most storied teams. but the story now surrounding penn state football may be a much darker tale. pf i'm jerry sandusky. former defensive coordinator jerry sandusky on the nittany lions sigh lines for decades was in court today accused of sexually abusing eight boys. the charges involve children he met through the second mile, a children's charity he started. nbc profiled the coach in his work with kids back in 1987. >> they're not supposed to succeed. they succeed here. >> reporter: a grand jury report details the allegations, including those of a graduate assistant who claims he saw sandusky having sex with a young boy inside penn state's football building. george curley and gary schultz are charged with lying about what they knew. according to the grand jury, schultz testified that the allegations were not that serious and that he and curley had no indication that a crime had occurred. and, when asked whether the graduate assistant had reported sexual conduct of any kind by sandusky, curley answered no
