good evening. >> i'm kristen sze. let's go straight to our reporter live at the jail. lisa?ed just after 2:00. haz/mat crews were just allowed to go into the jail to help the cleanup. medics are also inside. the fight was between two inmates at first. then according to a sheriff's department spokesperson, more inmates jumped in. he did not give me an exact number but said "more than ten inmates were involved, close to 20." as a result, this jail is still on lockdown at this hour. this is just one day after the sheriff installed 12 cameras she personally bought at costco. this comes after three guards were arrested for allegedly beating an inmate to death. the incident was not caught on cameras, which is why the sheriff has stepped up surveillance. today's fight took place in unit 4-a, which is a maximum security wing, and where the new cameras were just installed. >> lisa, thank you very much. the jail is also where guards have been accused of fatally beating an inmate. >> today is the fourth day of a preliminary hearing of those guards accused of the killing. >> katie utis

kristen sze is keeping a close eye on developments there. kristen? >> reporter: this earthquake measures 7.8 in magnitude according to the u.s. geological survey. thankfully it did not trigger a tsunami warning or cause expensive damage, due in part of the eni center in the indian ocean. it happened at 4:49 this morning our time. it had a depth of 15 miles under the sea floor. this is video we have where there was tremendous shaking as people pour out of buildings. as of now, still no reports of injuries, deaths or a major damage, but residents were panicked at first, rushing to higher ground fearing a tsunami. that's because this morning's quake hit the same region of indonesia that was devastated in 2004 by a massive tsunami triggered by a quake in the indian ocean. 170,000 people died in indonesia alone. the country, of course, sits on the pacific ring of fire like the bay area, an active quake zone. interestingly, one impact from today's quake, gold prices are up worldwide, as the world's biggest gold mine is located in indonesia. >>> silicon val

i'm kristen sze. >> and i'm dan ashley. another group of officers is in trouble for sending completely inappropriate text messages, and now the district attorney is involved. vic lee is live at police head quarters with the latest on the story. >> reporter: the district attorney gave no names of those officers or the stations they came from. but "abc7 news" has learned that at least one of the officers came from this station. we have no samples of those texts, although both the d.a. and police chief believe that the texts were offensive. each one held his own news conference today. the district attorney says he became aware of the text messages late last week. >> they occurred prior to, during, and after last year's scandal and it involves five officers that are not corrennec at all to the original 14. >> reporter: the original 14 were those conduct exchanging offensive tex messages. the d.a. had received 5,000 pages of evidence from the police department stemming from a case involving officer jason line, charged with illeg
