kristin wright working this scene for you. what is the latest?rter: 85th avenue is now back open as people in this neighborhood are waking up to news that a body was found very close by. you look here at that bus stop, that is actually where the body was found this morning. right near that bus stop. all morning long, people have been trying to catch the bus, at one point the -- we talked to a bus driver trying to bring his bus down, turn around because there is a death investigation going on. now, we are on 85th avenue off of annapolis road. there are several apartment complexes back here. the bus stop that we mentioned is outside of the carrollton manner complex. you're looking at video from overnight. this has been going on all night long. police working on this investigation, very active crime scene overnight. lots of police lights. detectives trying to put all of the pieces back together. look at this bus stop we have been talking about. a body found near this bus stop in new carrollton on 85th avenue. this morning, a lot of questions, though

news4's kristin wright with more. good morning. >> reporter: hey, good morning. so what it is is the first district police citizens advisory council is holding this meeting tonight here at the first district police station. and this is a group of really regular people who kind of serve as liaisons between the community and police. the meeting is tonight from 7:00 to 8:00. what we're told is going to happen is that this -- there's been a big discussion about how crime is affecting neighborhoods in the first district. the group we're told has requested a detailed analysis of crime that's happening from the d.c. police department. the group has also requested that other agencies such as u.s. capitol police and metro transit police weigh in on this big discussion. we know there's going to be a series of presentations and then q&a. neighborhood leaders met at the wilson building last night to talk about the 40% rise in the murder rate in d.c. and possible solutions. council member anita bonds called that meeting last night. the meetings both last night and today and t

more breaking news, news4's kristin wright on the scene of a fire at a building at george washington university. kristin, any evacuations there? >> reporter: that's right. there was a fire this morning at fulbright hall. it's a dormitory i'm told for sophomore students. you can see students here at the front door just now going back into the building after being evacuated at about 3:30 this morning. about 250 sophomores live in this building. the fire started we're told just a couple of hours ago. up on the roof. it started up on the roof area. firefighters were able to contain the flames to the roof of the building. we are told this building was just redone a couple of years ago in 2013. they are three-person dormitories. fire again contained to the roof. everybody okay which is a big thing. firefighters told me this morning that everybody is okay. they were able to get everybody out quickly. we talked to a few of the students here who said they heard the fire alarm go off all of a sudden in the middle of the night and they all had to come down the stairs and make sure that everybody

kristin wright is live at the zoo. kristin, what do we know about this? >> reporter: this is going to be interesting. first and foremost, it's not going to be normal at the zoo. there will be some restrictions. we'll get to that. the first lady michelle obama and the first lady of china visiting the panda site. a longstanding collaboration and conservation between u.s. and china. so these days everybody is talking about the cute little panda cub. we just got word from the zoo the pap da cub is doing just fine, nearly three pounds now. they're native to china. mei xiang and the male giant begans with born there. the new panda cub will also be going to china when he is 4. so we don't know what this announcement is. maybe one of the pandas is going to stay at the zoo a little bit longer. we don't know. the pedestrian entrance on connecticut avenue to the zoo is going to be closed until noon as well as the giant began habitat. that will be closed to noon. so keep that in mind. we'll let you know what the announcement is as soon as we find out. back to you. >>

kristin wright is on the scene with more information. kristin. >> reporter: yes, that's right. three people shot overnight, and one of them dead. those evidence markers that are still here right now. you can see, we counted about 25 of them. we're not sure if those are shelt ca shell casings or not. certainly, a lot of evidence markers a lot for detectives to do this morning. some five hours after this happened. if you look beyond the evidence markers, you see a car back there and its driver's side door open. we feel that might be part of the investigation. there are some evidence markers near that car. the shooting happened this morning at 12:30. the detectives had been out here all night long working on collecting evidence. officers got here and found a woman and two men, with gunshot wounds. one of the men died here. the other man and woman were taken to the hospital in critical condition. what exactly happened and why, we just don't know at this point. police don't have anybody in custody. they haven't arrested anyone. they have not named any suspects, so we're following it

in prince george's county, kristin wright. back to you. >> thank you, christen. right now police in fairfax are trying to figure out what happened to a person whose body was found near a bus stop this morning. police say they do not suspect foul play at this point. >>> at the live desk, just in, a major settlement now official in the death of freddie gray in baltimore. the baltimore city board that oversees spending approved a $6.4 million settlement between the city and the family of freddie gray. he died a week after he was hurt while in police custody. the mayor said a settlement before a criminal trial is unusual, but her words, she feels like this is meant to deal with bringing some closure and to avoid years of litigation. the police union against this settlement ahead of a criminal trial. and this move could have an impact on whether the six officers accused in gray's death will have their trials moved out of baltimore. a judge expected to rule on the defense motion on that change of venue tomorrow. we expect to hear from the gray's family attorney around

kristin wright is on the scene for us. what are police telling you at this point? >> reporter: you know what, the family so incredibly torn apart and just clearly devastated by what happened here today. police are telling me that the mother and daughter were walking across 355 here, headed to that bus stop you see there, maybe going to church. >> a family overcome by grief. their loved one taken away so suddenly. medics and an ambulance had to be called because the grief was too much. their loved one, about 50 years old, was hit by a car and killed while crossing southbound route 355 to get to the bus stop at southwest land drive in gaithersburg at 6:00 this morning. she was with her adult daughter, a witness to her own mother's death. police say the woman who died was crossing the street with a cane. >> investigators are stating that she was in the area of the crosswalk, but that determination won't be confirmed until they look at a lot more evidence. >> the driver stayed and is being questioned by police. his windshield shattered, collision reconstruction teams a

kristin wright joins us from fulbright hall. good morning. so what is going on right now?> reporter: well, you know, everybody is okay and that's the bottom line. students are back in the dorm right now. probably still wide awake after quite a morning already. we have some cell phone video to show you with that we were able to get this morning. it shows the flames burning across the rooftop of fulbright hall. the fire started at about 3:15 this morning. a lot of students who live here were asleep at the time and suddenly woke up to a real emergency. >> the lights were flashing and there was like a voice saying that we had to evacuate the building. and then we all left and then we went down the stairs and the police were like screaming for us to move faster. and we thought it was a drill. we just thought they were being dramatic up. >> reporter: about 225 students live in this dorm. they are sophomores. all eight floors were evacuated to a nearby building. you see some of the students lined up, waiting for the all clear after the fire was out. it took firefighters about 15
