louis lambert airport was hit by a severe storm with heavy winds.here was a reported sighting of a tornado, although that has not been confirmed. the sirens are going off. when we came into the building, that's when the doors blew off the entrance by the baggage claim. we were able to get everybody back into the men's restroom and literally ten seconds later, it was over. >> first, lights on the tarmac went out, so they weren't able to land because of that. then we heard different booming sounds. and then the alarms start going off and people are getting a little spooked. then tsa members say get into the bathroom, get into the bathroom. >> about 500 people were here at the airport at the time when this reported tornado actually came through. as you can see, it's left this terminal, terminal one here and terminal two at lambert airport shut down for the evening. and, in fact, we do not know, it's undetermined when the airport will be back open. they're doing a number of assess. s just to see when they can reopen the airport at this time right now. b

international. >> mitchell: robin smith of kmov at lambert airport in st. louis. >> forecasters say the wild spring of 2011 is far from over. severe weather and thunderstorms are predicted for tomorrow along the band stretching from texas all the way to pennsylvania. the pattern is likely to continue for the rest of the week. this is the second week end in a row that strong storms have wrecked havoc. last week it was the south and southeast. but the human toll from those storms was much different than this weekend. tony guida takes a look at why. >> reporter: in st. louis residents pick through what was left of their homes 24 hours after the worst storm in 44 years. yet no one was killed. in sanford, north carolina, easter services for victims of last weekend's deadly tornadoes, 92 twisters hit north carolina, 24 people were killed. mike smith, a meteorologist who wrote a book about weather disasters says people in both states had ample warning. >> the warnings were excellent. there was plenty of time for people to get to shelter provided they got the warni

lambert international airport is full of windows. there are windows from floor to ceiling on every end of the airport. and 50% of these windows blew out. some blew in, causing some minor lacerations to passengers, and people waiting in the airport. and they had to be transported, about four people transported by ambulance, three others treated here at the airport. miraculously, nothing too serious. let me tell you this, there were three planes full of people on the tarmac when the twister came through. and they tell me that -- let's just put it this way, you don't expect to have turbulence on the ground. you expect that to happen in the air. those airplanes will be checked out, of course, today, to make sure that they are okay to fly. but, no flights are coming in or out of lambert for at least several days. none today, none tomorrow. the airport hopes to re-evaluate on monday. but the big problem is, a lot of the stuff that you might be seeing seems superficial. but it will take building engineers to get inside and make sure that th

. >>> well, planes are once again being allowed to fly in and out of lambert st. louis international airport as cleanup continues after that devastating tornado. >> we want to go live now to meteorologist rick with a closer look. what's in the forecast there as we look ahead? >> reporter: yeah, two great stories. one, the forecast not looking good for a lot of the plains. more storms, more rain, more flooding and the threat of more tornadoes again over the next three days. the cleanup. we're here on the top of the parking deck. no cleanup has happened here. you can look and see cars where all the windows have been blown out. nothing has been done at all to clean up any of this area. all the efforts up to this point have been to get the airport going. that doesn't include the parking deck. you can see interestingly this terminal 2 sign. i have no idea where this came from, but blown here on top of the parking garage. head over towards this domed building, and you can see some of the windows still blown out. some of the windows have been boarded up. there are people

they have not confirmed it was a tornado that did all of that damage at lambert field. >> whatever it was it was terrifying and it was destructive. debris is scattered across runways. powerful wind gusts blew the roof off one terminal and shattered half of the windows in another. the winds were so powerful they lifted a shuttle bus to the second floor of a garage. this mother was picking up her husband and acted fast to protect her baby. >> the sky went black and the wind picked the car up an inch or two and dropped it and blew out the windows. it happened real fast. a piece of plastic came in and hit her. i threw the phone and grabbed her out of the carseat and put her in my lab. >> four people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, mostly from flying glass. >> almost instantaneously the windows started blowing out. en this the next thing we know we saw poles falling and they told us to go to a bunker and then the lights were going out. very scary. we have earthquakes where i am, but this beats it, let me tell you. >> two planes were stranded on the tarmac because of the debris.

louis, unbelievable scene at lambert field in st. louis. now we go to little rock, arkansas, and meteorologist mike seidel. i almost hate to ask this after the tornado tempo this spring. what is going to come next and who is going to get hit by this? >> well, tonight, we're watching tornadoes in parts of nine states. we have tornado watches. another dangerous night. lightning flashing around us in little rock. and the pattern won't change for the next several days. take a look at what we have had so far in april. a lot of warm air off the gulf, temperatures in the 60s, 70s, even 80s. you bring in the jet stream, juiced up on steroids. diving south into the rockies, into the middle of the country, you have that dip. where that dip forms, it clashes with the skrus, the warm, juicy air from the gulf. you have change with the direction, the twisting and turning. and you have the twisters. the problem is the pattern is locked in and nothing is moving. more of the same not only tonight but tuesday and wednesday. take a look at the front, it's not
