i'm leslie brinkley, abc7 news. >> leslie, thank you. today's wet weather follows yesterday's rain and wind across the bay area that created a number of challenges. the stormy weather caused problems for drivers and had crews scrambling to keep up with downed trees and power lines. some pg&e customers are still in the dark because of the rain and wind. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has more. >> reporter: pg&e crews are hard at work in daly city on beliveau avenue. this is just one of many spots throughout the bay area where the storm brought down power lines. >> i saw wires swinging back and forth. when they hit the other cables, that's when the sparks came out. that's when i called 911. >> nearly 2,000 homes and businesses lost power. not far away on southbound 280 at the on-ramp a flooded roadway caused this car to stall. others slowly inched by in a foot of sand and water. heavy rain and clogged drains are to blame for many flooded streets. the storm also made for dangerous driving conditions. but before the rain came the wind

abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley has more. >> the extent of the debris field. no one else was on board this beechcraft single-engine plane that as it came down grazed high tension power lines and smashed into this inaccessible canyon off kirker pass road near pittsburgh. >> reporter: the neighbors reported seeing a plane coming and spiraling down out of the air and then they saw some smoke come up from back in the area other. >> fire investigators say body parts are scattered across a wide debris field they found smouldering. >> due to the nature of the terrain of where the incident was at we brought out an engine to get further up into the area. there was a significant debris field and damage to the plane. >> reporter: the faa is on the scene as is the coroner's office. ntsb investigators will arrive tonight. "the east bay times" reports that the pilot took off from amador county and flew into concord's buchanan field last week and took off today at 12:30 when something catastrophic happened to bring that plane down with such intense force. i'm leslie brinkley

leslie brinkley is live in martinez with the very latest. leslie? >> 55 firefighters showed up here to fight a fire here at conia costa medical center and triggered fires alarms around 2:00 this afternoon and resulted in the evacuation of two floors of this knife-story hospital. the first floor, the second floor. critical to this is the second floor houses the operating rooms, and from what i understand there were patients in surgery, two of them. they were able to finish the surgery and evacuate those patients up to the third floor to icu where they were stabilized. patients going into surgery were taken outside the hospital and a total of nine patients evacuated along with staff. that included non-operational elevators in the hospital and patients jibd to me smelling smoke and one daughter was out for surgery and they had to get dressed and back out the door again because of the fire. the hospital is not taking any ambulance traffic at this hour telling people not to come to the hospital. they are not accepting any patients and diverting them to o

abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley is live at sun valley swim club with the story. >> the future of this community swimming pool is what's at stake tonight. it's been here tonight since 1954. as you can see, there are plenty of still very enthusiastic young swimmers here. neighbors though are complaining of loud mubsic coming from the pool. swim club representatives say they are just trying to stay fun and competitive as more young families move in. it's peaceful when neighborhood judith wolf swims lapse in the morning this time of year but not so much in the summer at sun valley pool. >> concerned over noise and trash and alcohol and crowding in the pool, et cetera. >> they started ramping up music, so then they started having amplified music and then later and later hours and late night parties. >> reporter: neighbors don't mind the bells and buzzers from the swim meets. they are worried about the music and the crowds. this neighborhood swim club had only 70 swimmers back in the '90s and now it's at at 215 with a deep waiting list. complaints got the city of lafayette involved. >>

abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley live at concord police headquarters where there's been a big outpouring of support today. leslie? >> reporter: people are bringing treats, dog toys, flowers by the concord police station all to celebrate the hero dog. it was just yesterday afternoon a few blocks away from the police station here that a man armed with a hatchet and hedge trimmers went on a rampage and the dog tried to protect the officers. the dog nicknamed jelly bell, a 3-year-old canine officer with police, is recovering at his handler's home. >> there was a stab wound to the head which did not penetrate deep enough to cause brain injury so we treat that had. >> reporter: veterinarians say he was also badly beaten with a blunt object. around 2:00 tuesday police say 30-year-old dominick musulman struck the man with a hatchet and he ripped his clothes off as he ran naked down the streets and climbed fences in the backyard ending up at this hour where he is lunged at police and the dog with a large hedge clipper. >> once he got past the dog and ever had he attacked the dog, he got up and th
