lisa washington is live at the toll plaza and i guess everything a green light so far right lisa?reporter: that's right frank and we're actually expecting to get an update around 9:00 this morning from cal tran. we're just outside of the cal tran's public information office. it's been 36 hours since the westbound, the upper deck of the bay bridge closed on friday evening and the work is still continuing, of course the biggest project of the 45, they're underway this weekend is going to be creating that temporary detour of the westbound. so the eastbound lanes of the new bridge can be constructed. now take a look at some video we have that cal tran gave us. the construction crews demolished a part of the old bridge and they are reconfiguring the westbound lanes. in addition, they are grinding, repaving, and striping parts of the highway. thanks to the good weather, the workers were able to get a lot done in a little time. cal tran's bart nay explains why closing the upper deck this weekend created an opportunity for the crews. >> so the opportunity was, if we could move the traffic

. >> thank you, lisa. thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. caltrans is due to give us another progress report at 9:00 this morning on the work, done to reshape the westbound approach to the bay bridge. take a look behind me. you see the upper deck completely closed. it is shut down all weekend for the around-the-clock project. caltrans spokesman said so far everything is on track to reopen as scheduled on tuesday morning at 5:00. possibly sooner. right now it all depends on workers surgically removing the bottom section of the existing bridge to make room for a connection to the new span. >> one of the biggest challenges we have is that we are trying to put that bridge in some cases in the exact same footprint as the original bridge. so this is one of those efforts that we've been doing in order to accommodate that, and also improve on our schedule. >> crews have now dug up the old roadway and shifted lanes a bit to the south from the lights to the incline. overnight they began striping the new lanes. this is the last of the planned closers f

lisa at the toll plaza, give us a little update on the work in progress this sunday morning. good morning to you, lisa. >> reporter: you are fortunate you come to work so early in the morning. if you had an alert schedule coming into san francisco, you would have had to contend with a lot of traffic on the bridges get into the city. many people had to deal with that. we are waiting this morning to get an update from caltrans at 9:00 on the progress, and work on the bay bridge. those westbound lane, the upper decks closed since 8:00 on friday evening. the work is on schedule. it may even be a little ahead of schedule, which would be great news for the many people having to deal with those closures. take a look at video we have that caltrans supplied to us. you can see the construction crews demolishing a part of the l bridge as they reconfigure part of the westbound lanes. they are grinding, and repaving and striping parts of the highway. thanks to the good weather we have had, the workers have been able to get a lot done in a little amount of time. >> if we complete the work
