our set up here you know our whole like the fifty and one. and they do have a. really great name put back to the south they don't go anywhere i mean they are very here twenty four seventh's. jay russell has just begun his second term as sheriff he knows prison regulations well he wrote them in his absence only one person can make decisions prison warden pat johnson. and usually there's someone out here would think but if not he can sit right here and he can watch the whole. all for. when there's all cameras and you know him so he's got to get out and he knows what's going on at all times just from sitting here. there are many cameras and only one god monitoring two hundred prisoners. beds and laid out closely. is no privet war. was never one remonde prisoners sleep beside convicted felons. say russell is full of ideas about how to reduce costs. where people would go visit him between glass top all these you know but over time technology has taken over that now we just do it on like i said you know b.t.o. visitation i don't know what comes in it will we don't have to search for many more all saturdays and sundays and it's cost effective not to real now that may and how we're doing all right which saves a lot of money and loan. maximum profit at any cost the sheriff will stop at nothing kitchen the prisoners are put to work in here. you know they're getting about forty percent off what they're making but yet they're paying for their incarceration ok so it's a huge deal with those monies like i said do go back in the public say they go to law enforcement they go to our equipment our card salaries things of that nature so they're basically paying us to put them back in day because if they if they occur if they re a real thing and. we stand also we should have used the problems here. just way back there so when did the remodel took all the walls out so you just got one clear little lead there to i'm going to pay. the sheriff maintains a relationship with every prisoner. no more you had back you know our friends our family my family you know. for twenty eight days you married twenty years have been locked up twenty. three to get home but take a. look at the. when you don't. see the. what did they cook to do. what are the most true only ten space. left in the building said. no servants it is the state that. you speak french. that said. let's send. this busy signal to itself to. about one hundred of them i did but that's not a cut i mean you know i mean my. dismissal but you know me a little much to be still slot. machine of slate feel compelled to. give it doesn't have to go. through another sunday to the left about a lot of people get it that some. time and most will go down. as become a hot item. criminon would come the most and then the police news. from some listener count somehow must post some solo some made out. of the from the one that hit. everybody and stephen both. hollywood. guy suspects every proud american first of all i'm just george washington and r.v. enthusiastic this is my buddy max famous financial guru and well just a little bit different i thought of going going going up there oh no one knows up with all the drama happening in our country i'm shooting the road have some fun meet everyday americans. and hopefully start to bridge the gap this is the great american pill which. what politicians do something that. they put themselves on the line. to get accepted or rejected. so when you want to be president i'm sure. most somewhat want to be. the two going to be for us to see what the before three in the morning can't be good but i'm interested always in the waters of our. question. these are the most profitable inmates they are awaiting release to work outside the prison but they return at night service manufacturing jobs or just it just depends on where they need where they need to be in the needy is ok and once we have the jobs we take them to and they pay a percentage of their salaries for their state for their baby for their housing for their transportation for their meals for all of that they go back to into the department to go to the chair stopped so it's very profitable and that was a ok. these hundred eighty two million mason net profit us about a million dollars a year ok profit and once everything's paid for everything. because of the sheriff doesn't want to lose out on this lucrative business. it. deserves a chance yeah nasa let you be sure you know stayed on it forever wishing you could have made out a. crazy man and then. i wake at the layer of. many louisiana residents who've been to prison. they are there for two and a half yes frank was in custody for a robbery he was involved in shooting anyone on the street and even in front of their own house is under suspicion not really related if they all run the risk of being checked yeah and they go to what sound radio you know feel good moment he. is talking. about the police who patrol the area at walking pace. down the. data base models video of people in the street. that would be seen at a cost is a lot of really your people in the street so yes there were shooting new video all night. because you got shot of my god. i was picked up. once and then laid all released and was picked up again and from there i was here. toward a half year and i. was there at the store and i didn't see none. came in the door always thing with soda in my lawyer. didn't mention anything about ted to distinctive features she said no it's all so you're lego why did mark get cornered on the pits and. he said that he didn't see anything and she was like we had have a maze of for monsieur and he went to the store earlier. and then later on. when i have years later i was released. from. two and a half years in custody made the twenty six year old father of five writes rap songs. songs about life for louisiana prisoners. three. sleep. away. from the red. conditionally were. doing showers dollar nice for too much very cold showers. or whatever. who know. they were there are so many innocent people. because nobody paid attention you know like. no you know voice were big enough to me as a chain of command you know it's a law enforcement is the detectives need. from there you know they all work together and i mean of of nobody could come and see was going. to get away with. this. franks is not an exceptional story. louisiana was late to abolish slavery but african-americans still had to fight for their rights. a cute guy to talk you guys here. it was me and one nine hundred sixty three that was me. fifty four years ago. that was me. i was one of them who led to demonstrations and it was met by people who would guns in and all of the stuff that people had in the middle sixty's to stop african-american kids from demonstrating from seeking now dance civil rights. after years of political activity calvin johnson became the first black judge in louisiana. he's often dealt with sheriffs. they all words i can use to to describe what i feel about that. but then you would have to cut those words out of this interview. because leave three in did the way to keep people in slavery was to use the justice system and then fix laws such that the newly freed people form of this needs would be put back in jail and in the. forced to go back on the plantations and work is not dead they are. a mean people of bad people it's it's that they are as much a a for lack of a better word victim of the system as the people who are in the jails all victims of the system because we are a poor state and we have used all kinds of means always to to fund our sales so the sheriff in most places all using that as a means to fund. the sheriff's self and his and was needs to operate when he's using it for that purpose and the louisiana law the third time he did one of those things i just described you could go to jail for life. i would not do. that. steve exemplifies the absurdity of the system in two thousand and seven he was arrested for driving under the influence in prison he learned that he was a chevy positive. you want to spend the money on. own not there to your officer because i was only inmate those want to go the house but. they feel like i would never important. yet when i was almost dead they they sent me if they would say me the hospital sooner. then. the infection and they would tell my here i would probably wouldn't even be in there my spinal fluid build up my spine or count got up to my brain cavity pushed my brain open was pushing forward on the turn to push it through my face. you had as i reminded her was about to pop out of sockets the piece of the optic nerve on the back side permanently damaged. and they tell me that i was a job the positive. told and they must have somebody else's records confused with mine because i'm not positive and they said yes you are. right. yeah. we need to talk about everything you know pretty low. on left and. so on and. steve returns to prison but his treatments didn't begin until months later thanks to social workers like darren stanley prisoners can hope for medical care as a source we're going to figure out how to get that medication soon to you and a list of. his who say they will do a chevy medication in a blister pack. according to the sheriff's twenty four dollars per prisoner per day isn't enough to pay for hiv treatment louisiana was very odd compared to the other states it was very clear that we had a very big problem with our parish and city jails providing h.l.v. medication treatment to the inmates it was crystal clear you consider the culture of medication i could imagine there's a lot of h.l.v. positive inmates there are not getting treatment. the old prison of new orleans is finally in the past it was one of the was just in the united states. the new prisoner looks like an office building. even inside it's very different. than our ideas on heart condition low lows for the white house, but it's something they're very much used to. they have gotten some really great news. i think probably the most important thing that has happened to them this year which is finally they are getting close enough to a legislative achievement that the president can see victory on the horizon. we know that they still have to wait for reconciliation for the house and senate versions to come together, but white house, this is the closest they've gotten on anything. remember on health care it was failure after failure. the president tweeting in the wee hours of the morns just as the bill passed that we are one step closer to delivering tax cuts for working families across america. special thanks to mitch mcconnell and hatch for shuffling the bill through the senate. so the president there praising much mcconnell, someone who he has not had the best relationship. at the same time the michael flynn news is dogging this white house and it is very serious. the white house is putting a positive face to the public, but privately, lawyers were surprised by what they learned yesterday and i still have to figure out what this means for the president going forward. >> we appreciate it so much. thank you. >>> let's talk more about what this means. here to break it all down, our political anchor, good morning to you. >> good morning. >> so this guilty plea really comes at a bad time for the president. within 24 hours really of the president's party getting through the only major legislative win of the year, you've got a former member of his administration pleading guilty to a felony while working in this administration. give us the context of what this means for the president, this tax win and at this moment. >> well, the tax win is huge for all republicans and in particular, the president. this takes for the members of congress this takes some pressure of them. what's seen as a tough year, 2018, if they didn't get something passed the tax reform in particular, that's happened now. and they'll have some more confidence and a better chance at holding their majorities in congress next year. for the president, however, nothing is going to offset the chaos that follows now. the cloud that has now darkened and appears to have some thunder rumbling inside of it that comes with thissish sha inquiry. it's no longer something you can dismiss as fake news. it's no longer something the different excuses that the president has put up. this is someone who was his top security advisor who pled guilty that he committed a crime and he was about lying to having a relationship with russian officials. >> you can't dismiss as they tried to with george papadopoulos, you can't with manafort saying that he was a short term volunteer. this is someone that was with the campaign and part of the administration. let's stay with this tax vote. i was about to say tax reform. is this the reform that the president and the party initially set out for or is it just the cuts that the president in recent days says that he was going for? >> i don't know if reform is the right word. the reality is what's driving the entire process and what's driving the final bill or the one that passed the senate anyway early this morning is a corporate tax cut. everything else follows from that and so you have to tinker here and there, but it's going to reshape american life without really reshaping the tax system. the general idea was supposed to be that put more money back into the hands of americans. that's going to happen up and down across the board. the reality middle class people are going to see a cut. it should be something that really stimulates the economy. the economy was already sort of picking up. i think the president himself put it, it's going to throw rocket fuel on it, we'll see what happens. there is a day of reckoning down the road though and that's something real reform may have paid more attention to. it's going to be a whole different ball game and it's the looming deficit and it's going to see if major cuts to support the future. >> we're going to talk about that a little later but i want to talk about process and senator john mccain back in july right before he gave that famous thumb's down for the senate proposal for repeal and replace of obamacare, he just returned from treatment for cancer and this is what he said about the process then. >> the administration and congressional democrats couldn't have forced through congress as massive as obamacare and we shouldn't do the same with ours. >> shouldn't rush something through. the bill was introduced. people got to read it about 9:00 p.m., the vote was done by 2:00 a.m. >> there's a bit of inconsistency there. if it was a bipartisan buy-in, this is the entire economy and he went along and cast his vote. any two republicans could have stopped this bill in its tracks and that's the political reality of it is that for republican to not push for corporate tax reform which is probably the one issue that unites all the different wings, all the different region, all the different generations of lawmakers who are all there under the republican banner, if they couldn't do that that would be a massive political problem. >> bob corker, the only republican not voting for this plan. he had a problem with the deficit numbers. those estimates we'll talk about later this morning. >>> as we've been reporting michael flynn charged with lying to if fbi, but what he tells investigators about other people in president trump's inner circle could be the next steps. we'll take a legal look at what's next. what do you need to incriminate on that point? >> to incriminate jared kushner in some sort of illegality, obviously in flynn came in and indicated he received illegal orders from kushner, you could bring a case based on that. it would be a very difficult to case to win. i don't know at this point if there's any dispute about -- between the two men about what was discussed. there was discussion involving israeli settlements and a u.n. resolution that was pending. so i suspect the two men will be on the same page as to what was being discussed in general with respect to that. >> all right. so beyond that, when we look at the reach of this, how vulnerable is kushner? >> well, in the report, as your report included, he was caught on intercepts having these kind of conversations with various different people. it may seem that jared kushner wasn't quite aware of who was listening to his conversations. that's one level of exposure. it seems also that the prosecutors are doing what prosecutors do which is even if they don't understand the full scope of a possible conspiracy, they can figure out whether you have lied to them. so if kushner is consistent, he should be okay. it's not clear that that's the case though, because we've heard him give different versions of who he was involved in. we've seen him have to amend and revise and update his disclosure forms. we've had him have to sort of change his story a couple of times about meetings that he had or forgot to mention. he too had one of those episodes when it came to meeting the ambassador. so i think it's now clear the fbi or i should say the mueller investigative committee is perfectly willing to bring charges if you lie to the fbi. >> so paul, the connection between jared kushner and president trump is a very short line? >> well, yeah, it's a very close connection. he's is son-in-law of the president and certainly if a -- you can start to build a case against kushner. you're getting very, very close to the president of the united states, but i have to agree that this remains to be seen as to where this goes with kushner. you have to remember one thing. they dropped this case against general -- the general because they were eaves dropping on conversations that he had and he denied having had any conversations. so kushner on the other hand has admitted to contacts. he hasn't gone into substantial detail publicly about a lot of those conversations but i think he situation might not be as pearl louse as the general's. >> i want to read something from the woug post. they said flynn was a private citizen in 2016 and he basically admitted he urged the russian ambassador not to retaliate after president obama announced sanctions to punish russia for meddling in the presidential election. at the end of the day, what is the repercussion of that? and is this act, is it an outdated law or is it still purposeful here? the logan act, no one's ever been prosecuted under the logan act. the logan contact is a very old law that is supposed to prohibit citizens, civilians from getting involved in diplomatic efforts on their own and so if you have this 18th century law still on the books and it's never once been used to prosecute anybody for interfering with foreign policy, it's hard to imagine that this would be the one time that you would pull it out. so no, that's not the crux of the problem and here again, that's why i think we can expect prosecutors to stick to what they can prove. to go back to water gate, they never found out why those burglars broke into the dnc headquarters. what was really the problem was all this obstruction of justice, all this lying to authorities. that's what i think the trump white house has to be more concerned about. are you lying about it? that can get you in a lot of trouble. >> i only have a second but that's what i was going to ask. can mueller use flynn to try to proof obstruction of justice for firing combey. >> he most definitely can do. the president was saying hey, can you lay off flynn, flynn's really a good guy. one of the claims of on construction is that the president knew he had committed illegal acts and fired comey and that becomes close to an impeachable offense. so that's dangerous area. and getting back to the logan act, i think at some point impeachment started to be a serious discussion, certainly the trump administration's involvement in negotiating foreign policy before he was sworn in as president would be something that would come up in connection with those proceedings. the logan act remains on the books and it hasn't been enforced but certainly they were trying to sabotage negotiations regarding israeli settlements. >> it is so intriguing how intercorrected everything is here. thank you, gentlemen. >> the bill passes the senate. coming up, the next steps. will it become the first legislative victory for the trump era? >> also republicans say the tax overhaul will turbo charge economic growth. skeptics not so sure about that. we're going to take a deeper dive into how corporations are going to get deeper tax cuts and what it means for american workers. we know life can be hectic. that's why at xfinity we've been working hard to simplify your experiences with us. now with instant text and email updates you'll always be up to date. you can easily add premium channels so you don't miss your favorite show. and with just a single word, find all the answers you're looking for. because getting what you need should be simple, fast, and easy. download the xfinity my account app or go online today. >>> always so grateful to have you with us. >> good morning to you. >> so a 51-49 vote in the senate gets the gop closer to the tax cuts for christmas. this would be the first legislative win for the president. >> but it comes after news that micheal flynn is cooperating with the special counsel investigation. he admitted to lying to the fbi about his contact with the former ambassador. the plea is just hype, they call it a sack of smoke. >> the white house is distancing itself though from michael flynn as it talks up tax reform. >> joining us now, white house correspondent and we've seen the president's tweet about tax reform, nothing at least yet about flynn although if the president follows his pattern it is a saturday morning. he will be mawaking up and sayi something probably against all the attorneys in the white house. >> so far it's been pretty disciplined from the president on social media and that's partly because on the horizon of all this flynn stuff has been the promise of fulfilling a real campaign pledge to his supporters on the horizon. you know, the president and mitch mcconnell, senate leaders really strong armed a lot of senators over the last week and they succeeded in getting almost every one, except for bob corker who has been a critic of the president and a lot of concerns about the bill that they tried to resolve overnight but weren't able to as this flynn investigation continues. >> all right. thanks so much. >>> so the president claiming that the republican tax plan really going to help the middle class and boost that job growth we've been talking about. >> we break down what this new tax bill could mean for you. christina? >> the argument that corporate tax savings will somehow flow down to the little guy is a gross oversimplification. look, companies have had money to nst in jobs, research and plans for quite some time now but they choose for the most part to do other things with it like reward shareholders instead of reinvesting in their own businesses. >> it reduces the corporate rate from 35% all the way down to 20%. and it provides a one-time lowax rate to return corporate money parked overseas. trillions and trillions of dollars. >> republicans say that workers benefit when companies pay less tax. it will free up cash to employees and expand operations. >> that's money we want to bring back. we're going to create expensing that insent vise companies to create jobs. >> but how much will the average american benefit from corporate tax cuts? will it really trickle down? in front of trump's very own economic advisor -- >> if the tax reform goes through, do you plan to increase your capital investment in the tax reform goes through? >> a tepid response. a reduced rate on trillions parked overseas. if they bring that money back home, but ceos of major companies admit that workers won't necessarily see more jobs or higher wages. at least not right away. >> what about jobs and wages? does that argument work? is that something -- is that an area you would focus on and you would invest in? >> i think principally it's not our short term
low lows for the white house, but it's something they're very much used to. they have gotten some really great news. i think probably the most important thing that has happened to them this year which is finally they are getting close enough to a legislative achievement that the president can see victory on the horizon. we know that they still have to wait for reconciliation for the house and senate versions to come together, but white house, this is the closest they've gotten on anything....

low, low numbers coming up. >>> remember you can track the snow and cold wherever you are with our nbc 10 app. download it for free to get the interactive radar right on your smartphone. >>> right now at 4:30 we're talking about a life-threatening allergy. >> there's breakthrough to a new treatment in our area helping to treat children with peanut allergies. >> reporter: 8-year-old miranda had lived would the fear and frustration of having a peanut allergy. thanks to a new treatment, she is now eating one of her favorite snacks every day. peanut and chocolate chips. >> my own anxiety is much lower. i have allowed miranda to do more things. >> reporter: her mother discovered she had a peanut allergy when she was 17 months old after giving her peanut butter cereal. miranda broke out and hives and was rushed to the hospital. a dose of benadryl solved the problem. six months later, another allergic reaction. this time miranda fell victim to cross contammination. >> she was eating goldfish crackers off a plate that someone had previously had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. >> reporter: at home they created a peanut-free environment. she could only eat meals prepared by her parents. the anxiety of a severe potentially life-threatening allergic reaction was overwhelming. >> i didn't know what was going to happen in the future. so it was a little scary, but i wasn't completely scared. >> reporter: last year, the family met a doctor who treats children with peanut allergies. >> giving small doses of the food that the person is allergic too, in this case peanuts, and gradually systematically over a period of several months we can get a child who might have been highly allergic to peanuts to tolerating eight to ten peanuts a day. >> reporter: miranda started her therapy in june of 2016. the doctor personally monitored her treatment. the treatment starts with giving peanut in the liquid form. then a powdered capsule. eventually an actual peanut. it's a gradual process that takes months to develop. it's not a cure, the treatment builds tolerance. >> the patient stays in the office an hour after the dose. >> reporter: the treatment worked for miranda. >> now that wae know she has a tolerance for peanuts, we're not worried about her accidently eating more than a full serving of peanuts. we know a full serving is safe for her. >> reporter: the doctor says the treatment has an 85% success rate and he plans to treat milk and egg allergies. >> if you think this treatment may work for your child, call your pediatrician. >>> now to a look at the other stories we're following you county by county. north hampton county, police officers are looking for someone who pretended to be one of them, stopping and frisking a teenager. the teen said he was >>> still ahead at 4:00, a surreal tweet from a former president. >> who is using eagles' defender chris long as model of what's best about america. >>> flu fears. the virus is gaining steam and starting to take a deadly toll across our area. >>> signing the dotted lines, the police force that just ratified adn new contract, that all new at 5:00. ,000 deaths in america last year. we need to stand up and say enough. the only way this problem is going to be solved is if we raise our voices. choose help over helplessness, hope over hopelessness. make sure that the lives we've lost will not have been lost in vain. addiction is a disease. when you ask for help, help is there for you. >>> the flu season is only getting worse. the centers for disease control releases the latest numbers today. last week, 36 states reported widespread flu activity, including pennsylvania. that's up from 23 states the week before. 13 states reported regional activity, including new jersey. delaware had less flu activity than both pennsylvania and new jersey. there is still time to get the flu shot. >>> tis the time for new year's resolution. pediatricians say it's a good time to teach children good habits to begin 2018. they suggest parents encourage their children to clean up. children between five and 12 can resolve to exercise every day, use sunscreen and tell an adult about any bullying they experience. teenagers, experts suggest to resist peer pressure and to find healthy ways to cope with stress. >>> there's nothing like the excitement of seeing a kid open a favorite holiday present. >> recognizing an eagles player for playing a big part. president obama took to twitter to post some of the positive stories of the year. he included eagles' player chris long. long decides to give up his entire year's salary to fund scholarships in his hometown on charlottesville, virginia. he responded by saying honored to be mentioned sir and it's been a pleasure. >>> this is unbelievable. bananas, they are certainly a healthy snack. there's one boy out there who thinks they make a perfect christmas gift. >> his uncle wrapped up the banana and here's the reaction. >> open it. >> banana! banana! i got a banana! >> clearly, the uncle who did this, he knew the kid loves bananas. this video has been retweeted 300,000 times since being posted to twitter. we love it. >>> let's take a live look outside at camelback resort up in the pocono mountains. it's packed out there, looking good. another harsh day on the slopes but not keeping the skiers away. >> 100 or so people in that frame. preparing for new year's eve, or sunday night, you're rushing around back and forth. >> it's rough. it's rough now. right? it's going to get rougher by sunday night. it's just going to be brutal out there. and if you're planning to head up to the poconos, you probably know how to dress properly and you'll need to because it's going to feel like it's 20 below zero. and i have the numbers to prove it. not just pulling it out of the air. 24 degrees in philadelphia now. we've had sunshine all day. we've had sunshine across the entire area. it's still not helping very much. it is brutally cold. the average high this time of the year is 41 degrees. let's see. any days -- we don't even get to 30 for this upcoming week for the most part. it looks like monday is going to be the coldest of all, new year's day. and some of the neighborhoods north and west already are back down into the teens. berks county and lehigh, north hampton counties, we've got 17 degrees in fleetwood. 16 in leonardsville. 18 in nazareth. 19 in easton, bethlehem and whiteha whitehall. just think, it's going to be much colder than that by monday morning. we've got dry conditions now, but there's clearly an area of snow coming down. you can see this jet stream coming right into it. that's one of the reasons that snow is there. and let's time it out for you as we go into the morning by 6:00 a.m., if it's going to be snowing anywhere, it would be part of delaware, especially western newcastle county. parts of chester county. parts of berks county. then it spreads across the rest of the area. it's not real heavy or else it would be darker blue. it is going to be lasting for hours. and then with the road temperatures or any kind of ground temperatures, so cold it would stick on untreated surfaces. at noon it's ending in delaware, so be limited numbers of hours. and the last place to see it end, it will be ocean county which could see a bit. then nothing more than flurries in the afternoon. but it's going to be an accumulating snow. not accumulating a lot. no one place should be getting a lot of snow, more than three inches. but hardly anybody's going to miss it. nobody's going to miss this, the cold. here's saturday morning with a southerly wind it's feeling like it's barely in the lowns. saturday afternoon, once the snow ends, it's still very cold. it's nothing compared to sunday. here is saturday night, feeling like it's in the single digits. now we're getting the west, northwest wind. sunday morning feeling close to zero. sunday afternoon, here's the middle of the eagles game feeling like 6. 2 in doylestown and allentown. sunday night as we get toward midnight, now we're talking about below zero. ten below in doylestown. there's the 21 below in the poconos. i'm not exaggerating. it comes right out of the computer. that's a combination of the low temperature and that there's going to be wind. this is going to be another very cold week, all week and even into next weekend. >> i remember growing up as a kid being out at the mummers pparade and literal parade and literally freezing, but this is going to be something else. >> it would be one of the coldest, if they have it if they don't cancel it. one reason why they might try to do it is the forecast for next weekend

>> these were follow up e-mails. they were from rob goldstone, the british publicists who arranged the meeting. and multiple sources telling us he sent several e-mails. these e-mails have emerged despite the fact that donald trump, jr. had stated there was no discussion with any participant after the initial june 2016 meeting. so now a lot of questions now that these e-mails have come out. >> what do the e-mails say, jessica? >> so we know about two e-mails. so one of them was to senior trump aide dan scavino, currently the president's social media director. in the e-mail he encouraged then candidate trump to create a page on the social networking site called vk. in the e-mail it said, don and paul were also on the e-mail. a source tells cnn that goldstone had actually mentioned that idea of a social media post at the end of the trump tower meeting. as everyone was leaving, goldstone continued to push that proposal in the e-mails and weeks following. cnn has search done a search of vk pages, but we cannot find any indication that a campaign page was ever setup. and five days after the trump tower meeting, in that e-mail goldstone forwarded a cnn story on russia's hacking of dnc e-mails. he forwarded that to his client, a russian pop star and also one of the russians who attended the meeting. and in the e-mail he described the news of the dnc hacks as quote, eerily weird given what they had discussed at the trump tower meeting five days earlier. one of the sources familiar with the e-mail down-played the interaction saying that news of the dnc hack was only surprising because in the run up to the trump tower meeting, don, the russian participants had promised information to illicit funtding of the dnc but that information was never provided. so sort of down-playing this. >> thank you, jessica. appreciate it. want to bring in now former congressman jack kingston, who was a senior advise door the trump campaign and max booth, the author of the "road not taken." jack, since you're here with me in the studio, thank you for joining us. why the constant drip, drip, drip on this? if there's nothing to hide, why not just come out with it? >> i agree with you on the big picture. on the other hand, this is situation where everyone's lawyered up and they're being very carefully. frankly, i think i would be a little bit more worried as a trump supporter if there were responses. and certainly goldstone would have those responses to the e-mails. so far we're only looking at his side of the ledger, and it doesn't seem like the bait was taken. as you know in the campaign, lots of people circle around and they have ideas and they want the candidate to do that, meet with these people and so forth. and it looks like so far that's what we're seeing in these e-mails. >> do you agree with that? >> i think i have a pretty different view of the situation, which is that i think we are seeing growing evidence that president trump was probably complicit in collusion between this campaign and the russian government. and we certainly see growing evidence that president trump was guilty of obstruction of justice. i think those cases become clearer every day. and it's this drip, drip, drip of information which cannot be explained in any kind of innocent manner. i mean why would at least 12 trump associates have at least 52 contacts during the course of the campaign with representatives of the russian government? i mean there was no innocent topic they could have possibly been discussing. in fact everything we know suggests they were not discussing their favorite brand of vodka or -- >> specifically to this jack is saying there appears to be no follow up to goldstone. >> remember, don, that we only know a small portion of what actually happened. what's been publicly reported. and i think it's significant that every time that robert mueller, the independent counsel, has acted he has caught people by surprise. because, for example, nobody expected this plea deal from george papadopoulos or the very generous plea deal that mike flynn got or the charge against paul manafort. clearly he's got information that the rest of us do not possess. but i think even the information we have is extremely damnening. and it's not any one data point that can be explained away. but there's no way to explain away this vast number of at least 52 contacts with the trump campaign and the kremlin. there was an expectation that trump would lift sanctions on russia. in fact, there was a "the washington post" story on monday which said flynn on inauguration day was telling business associates that the sanctions were going to be ripped up. >> gold stone also forwarded a cnn story -- a stoory about russia's hacking of dnc e-mails to his russian pop star client -- jared kushner and paul manafort describing the news and this is their quote, eerily weird, given what they have discussed at trump tower five days earlier. do you find that strange? >> i think that's an interesting comment. my daughter worked for a foreign policy magazine. i know he's a regular contributor. but at the same time, max, we would both agree it's been a year and a half and there hasn't been anything that mueller or the senate or the house has produced to show collusion. for manafort it had nothing to do with the campaign. for flynn it was lying to the fbi, for papadopoulos it was lying to the fbi. if collusion was so apparent why hasn't there been somebody who's been indicted. >> jack, don't just throw away, lying to the fbi. >> but it had nothing to do with the campaign -- >> it's their own character. he was not instructed to lie to the fbi. >> go ahead. >> that's just not a very compelling argument. >> well, if you're partisan -- >> i'm not a partisan, jack. i used to be a right wing republican until donald trump was elected. i'm an independent, and the reason why that's -- can i just finish the point? the reason that's not a convincing spin is that's like saying to the watergate special prosecutor in early 1974, well, you've been on the job for six months now, why haven't you delivered a compelling case against richard nixon? the fact is it takes a long time to unravel a very complex case like this. any kind of large conspiracy requires a lot of time. but in fact robert mueller who's been on the case about half a year now, i think has made stunning progress with the guilty pleas of two trump aides including former national security advisor to lying to the fbi. and a very compelling money laundering case against paul manafort, trump's campaign manager and had a lot to do with russia. he was laundering money from russia. >> there are a lot of people who cannot accept the results of the election, and they're doing everything they can to discount the trump presidency, now you've got -- >> hold on. >> that's an absurd spin. that is ridiculous spin. >> they're also investigating how russia floounlsinfluenced t election. it's not just collusion they're investigating. if information about russia or someone committed an illegal act as they're investigating this -- i don't understand your point here. >> well, my point is what max was saying there's all kind of evidence about collusion. that's what we've been hearing now for a year and half, we're not seeing anything. i'm confused why did the dnc correspondent with the fbi when they said your computers have been hacked, let's take a look at them and they would not let them do that -- >> what does that have to do with the dnc not cooperating? >> well, it's part of in that e-mail you just read to me, that it's eerily that the dnc computer was hacked. i'm thinking it might have something to do with it. it might be interesting to know who paid for the dossier and why won't the fbi tell us who paid for the dossier? >> this is one red herring after another. >> what does that have to do -- that has nothing to do with anything. jack, you're throwing out shiny objects that have nothing to do with anything. there is an investigation going on -- >> i'm just saying going to paul manafort's records before he was involved with donald trump -- >> you don't know what they're investigating. you're not there investigating. >> who paid it and why won't the fbi -- >> why does it matter who paid for it? if the information is correct, it doesn't matter who paid for it. no, no, don't say you guys. i'm not on anybody's side here. i'm just on the side of the truth. and i'm just looking at the truth and there is no there there. your next thing is going to be hillary clinton and her e-mails. >> but you know what let me say -- >> hillary clinton is not president. >> but i am saying putting information on the table -- >> the information is already on the table. this investigation has nothing to do with dnc e-mails or dnc hacking. this has to do with russia's -- hang on -- russia's influence in our election and also the contacts between the trump campaign and people tied to the kremlin. that's what this investigation has to do with. >> and on that point i agree with you. however, if we are talking about the blanket statement of russia's involvement in the election, and russia was involve would the dossier, isn't it relevant to know who paid for it?
