i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. we've been following these two stories overnight, a lot of developments, but first developments in the weather department as well. changes coming to our forecast. >> we have several changes. we are going to get to not one but three chances to see rain make its way back to the bay area so it looks like we might end up these last couple days official winter on a rainy note. san jose 51 degrees, clear skies. another thing you will notice as we head into the afternoon is an increase in that cloud cover. the temperatures remain 9 to 10 degrees warmer at this hour than yesterday. here is a quick check of that, that 24 hour temperature change. san jose nine degrees warmer, sunnyvale 11 degrees warmer. >>> we're looking at the roadways, calm as far as the speed sensors are concerned. a minor crash in san jose off of the freeway at the wolf road off ramp. we have a little tiny slow down as folks are coming out of the altamonte pass and that's typical the volume coming from a bigger commute out

i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia who is recovering from laryngitis. >> and i'm marcus washington. this morning starting out nice and cool but it will shape up to be a beautiful day. >> yes, really warm. and we know this is the first week of spring, we're not supposed to have temperatures in the 80s. that's where we're headed today. we may set some records. looking live right now in san jose, all clear skies as you head out the door. the school day forecast. my son was so excited that this was the last day before spring break and it's going to be in the lower 50s and reaching into the mid-70s already by early afternoon. a look at all of our high temperatures. reaching into the low 80s and some 70s for the east bay and san francisco. the north bay, 83 degrees. now, mike, you were saying you were already starting to see the slow stretches on the roads. >> exactly what you would expect. the last couple weeks colleges and universities had their spring breaks and we're having our kids hitting spring break as well so that will continue with a lighter flow. san jose shows a little stretch

. >> and i'm marcus washington. that storm the story of the day. the radar one more time and rob mayeda is standing by keeping track of what's going on. rob, what can we expect throughout the rest of the day? >> probably the worst part of the storm coming in, unfortunately, right on top of your morning commute. the south bay seeing the heaviest downpours right now and you'll have to contend with gusty wind. you can see observing at 21 miles an hour and another difference the temperatures starting off at 50 degrees in oakland. you can see san jose also 50 degrees. wind speeds at 16 miles an hour. a view of mobile doppler radar showing you widespread moderate to heavy rain from your highway 17 commute into san jose. the rain for now starting to ease up a bit. our storm ranger mobile doppler radar is right there on top of san bruno. that is that red beam you see scanning over observing. moderate rain pushing on through and we will be dealing with rain changing over to scattered showers around lunch time today and a chance of small hail as we head into

. >> and i'm marcus washington. ght now we want to go to meteorologist kari hall tracking that storm that's heading our way. >> the good thing, kris and marcus, is that we can kind of ease into this storm, it's going to start out light and scattered and then get heavier as the days go along. we are already starting to see some of that rain moving into the north bay and peninsula. i wanted to give you a closer look at what's happening across marin, napa and sonoma counties. we're also seeing that rain that's just north of ukiah. we're seeing it pretty scattered and light here as it gets started and also some very light rain moving into san francisco that we are seeing on storm ranger parked on san bruno mountain. that's the red scan. we are going to keep it there because it will give us the best view. this will continue to make it into oakland. we are going to give it another 15 to 20 minutes and then it continued off towards the east, toward orinda, lafayette and walnut creek within the next hour. mostly light rain o

marcus washington has the day off.th vianey and a sunny forecast. >> yeah, well, you know, we are expecting some temperatures that are going to be in the 70s. we may have a couple of high clouds, but look at some nice hues in the sky, we have this shot of woodside and the current temperatures still in those 30s and 40s, but as that sun begins to come up you're going to notice a very lovely increase in temperatures. so let's talk about exactly what we're looking forward to here. we are in the 50s at about 10:00 a.m. and eventually into those upper 60s by 1:00 and right around your lunch hour, our dinner hour for us in "today in the bay" because we've been up for a long time will be in the 70s. by our nap time, 4:00, the 70 degree mark will still be very much present and this warming trend will continue through tomorrow, but you're probably going to notice a very nice increase in cloud cover as we head into tonight and into tomorrow, but for now enjoy your nap time later, mike. >> yeah, i love to get those. i like the pa

. >> and i'm marcus washington. we have full team coverage for you this morning as we track the latest storm to hit the bay area and we want to begin with forecaster vianey arana. >> you notice that that moisture that we saw originally off the coast now fully making its wei-yin land and that's exactly what our storm ranger is tracking right now. it is sitting on top of san bruno mountain scanning the latest information that comes in. we can see a lot of those showers now are focused towards the east bay. if i zoom in on this you can see mobile doppler radar there. where you're seeing the red and yellow hue colors light up, that's where the heavier pockets of rain are. as i head over towards the east bay, get ready, oakland, berkeley, emeryville getting some of the heavier downpours, alameda will see some of the downpours. oakland is following a little bit of that shadow, but 880 seeing downpours. the peninsula right now not really seeing too much rain in redwood city but just behind that the showers moving through h

. >>> and i'm marcus washington. right now we want to head over to meteorologist kari hall. >> we do start out this morning with a much different picture. when we took that look from emeryville across the bay bridge it seemed like the camera lens had been cleaned off because of all the rain. adds we get a look at storm ranger our mobile doppler radar this morning tracking one little spotty shower across northern marin county right now moving over the hills and the north bay is where we could see some more showers once again as we go into late morning into early afternoon. as we take a live look outside in san jose we are all dry now and we will get some sunshine, a cool start reaching into the upper 50s by early afternoon and once again, we will see some of those showers redeveloping in the north bay. the rest of the bay area won't see any chances of rain until later on this afternoon into the evening. so i will talk more about that and you don't want to miss the weekend forecast. that's coming up in about seven minu

i'm marcus washington. >>> and i'm laura garcia. let's check in with vianey in for kari hall this morning, tracking this latest storm for us. will everyone see it? >> not really. especially if you live anything north of the golden gate bridge, it looks like this storm system is actually more focused south of the golden gate bridge, but going into the start of your workweek, yeah, looks like the rest of the bay area is probably going to get a good soaking as we head in towards the next workweek. you are going to notice kind of a wild mix of temperatures. napa is at 39, san jose at 51, but besides that we are seeing some fog so please slow it down. parents, i want to get you started on the school day forecast if you're getting the kids prepared right now. we will be fairly comfortable. by 1:00 at about 57 degrees, we will keep the clouds in the sky, not really tracking rain. we might see light drizzle along the coast, but all in all we won't see that rain move in until later. so keep that in mind as we head into today, upper 60s for t

i'm marcus washington. of course, we've got your morning traffic look as well as your weather. right now we want to start with meteorologist kari hall getting a look at what's going on with that weather shoo we've seen the rain hit or miss and that's the kind of weather we will see throughout the day. so it's still wet for all of the bay area even though you may not see that rain falling at this point. much of the rain has been over slap know and contra costa county. i have give you a close look at storm ranger this is our mobile doppler radar that gives us a second by second update as the rain continues to move in. right now it's getting heavier for concord, it's shoving through shore acres and approaching pittsburg. if you will be driving on highway 4 heading west it's going to be wet at times. as we go through the day we will see more light rain spreading in and this will mostly be for the south bay, the east bay and also the peninsula. pockets of rain may also become quite heavy and by this afternoon we could be tracking a few storms. so i will have more details on that com

. >> and i'm marcus washington. we have you covered. the rain ask not here right now or at least we've seen some -- starting to see a few sprinkles. >> we have a couple sprinkles moving through the south bay right now. if you will be driving through the san jose area don't be surprised if you head outside and start noticing light rain coming down on your windshield. this is a live look at that doppler radar. you can see sitting off to the coast is a couple other light showers. we do still have the chance of seeing light rain at least for the next 30 minutes or so and then it's going to die down and we get another round of showers and the next round of showers has a possibility of producing thunderstorms and even hail. i will get more into that in just a bit. >>> we're seeing that on the road weather index as well, that's the green over here. you notice it's coming across vianey's radar between the bay bridge and san mateo bridge, but we will track that as it gets over towards the nimitz and san leandro and oakland as well. the tri-valle

. >> and i'm marcus washington. we will get a better look at what's going to make you smile today, let's go to meteorologist kari hall with a look at the bright forecast. >> it does look really bright, a lot of sunshine and it's going to be warmer today than it was yesterday. so if you were out there, you were like, okay, this is pretty nice today even better. 62 degrees in san francisco and 63 degrees in napa and in oakland. palo alto 64 degrees and san jose up to 66 degrees. if you're wondering how we're doing for the month of march and where we stand as far as how much rain we've had recently, we have seen a surplus across much of the bay area in some cases more than double the amount of rain, that's what we had in san francisco, and in livermore, but in san jose a little bit less than we normally get. i will talk about how much this catches us up to normal for the water year and also we will take a look ahead to the weekend in seven minutes. >>> mike says we are right on schedule this morning. >> that's right. w
