. >> maria molina is standing by with more on what is next. good morning maria. >> good morning everyone. we are looking at arctic air in place across the plains and into the northeast. with this arctic air mass moving over the relatively warmer great lakes we are looking at lake enhanced and lake-effect snowfall. all of it along the blakes michigan, looking at heavy snowfall early this morning and will be continuing through out the day today and even in through friday. some of the areas downwind of the great lakes couldn't be looking at 6 inches or more of snowfall. there will be lingering snow showers as we take off the weekend on saturday. behind the system it is cold out there. take a look at the windchill temperatures in texas. in dallas you are looking at windchill temperatures in the teens. when people head out the door 70 degrees down there. in denver 45 degrees below zero 19 degrees below zero and the temperatures are going to remain below average. 40 across the state of texas your high temperature just 28. this thursday in amarillo an

maria molina now joining us she's outside of the car and it stopped snowing.ere yesterday. >> what happened? >> it was insane. originally we were planning on being live in lackawana, new york, a suburb to the south of buffalo. we were ready on location. we spent the night and then early in the morning yesterday our truck unfortunately got stuck and they were towed to this location here in pembro that's 0 or 20 miles or so east of our location, the hotel area in buffalo. this is where we had to go live from. you can see here a lot of snow. they picked up about 30 inches here. where our hotel is located they potentially had seen the most snow ever in a 24-hour period that's been recorded. that would be a significant record. right now that's 76 inches and there are reports that that's how much snow they got. we were stuck three times yesterday. local people helped us out. fortunately my fiancee was even here chasing lake-effect snow and he helped us out to get us out. three times we got stuck. we saw people going by us quickly on snowmobiles. that is the best mod

thanks and happy thanksgiving as we turn our eyes to maria molina.ord because all the travel depends on the weather and you've got the weather for us. what's happening? >> that's right. good morning. we're tracking our storm system that's going to be moving up the coast throughout today. i have to tell you, just here in new york city, we've already been seeing some changes since early this morning. temperatures were a little warmer in the overnight hours, upper 40s. they are dropping now, in the low 40s. we're seeing the colder air to help transition rain to snow. look for example radar, you can see areas of rain across florida, parts of the carolinas, up into the mid-atlantic and right here as well in new york city. we already have some snow showing up on the radar. you can see the specks of white across virginia and also west virginia. that means that snow is coming down heavily. taking a look at the computer models here, you can see that rain-snow line, that mix is going to be heading up right along parts of new york city and new england. where it

let's check in with maria molina. she is outside with a look at the forecast. >> good morning.t arctic blast that's been impacting parts of the northern plains over the last several days. we picked up significant snow across minnesota with more than 16 inches of snow just north of the city of minneapolis and that storm system is on the move, really a lot weaker today. we're looking at light rain across parts of the northeast early this morning like upstate new york and down into pennsylvania and very dense fog ahead of that storm system as well from parts of south carolina all the way to maine. temperatures are very cold behind that storm system and we're also expecting some lake-effect snow to be triggered as we head into basically thursday and friday. you can see those accumulations. more than six inches, possibly 12 inches in some areas off the great lakes. let's head back inside. >> maria thank you very much. coming up on this wednesday, it's the interview with the man who killed osama bin laden. >> the analysts told me if you want to get a shot at bin laden, he's on the th

we have maria molina live. it is cold in some parts. >> we're seeing significant snowfall accumulations even for places like minnesota this time of year. we're talking incredible snow totals above a foot in minnesota, wisconsin and even michigan. look at the map. 16.5-inches reported in central minnesota, just outside the city of minneapolis. they got hammered with snow yesterday. the storm system is still on the move. it is producing areas of heavy know across the up of michigan, upper peninsula and portions of wisconsin. how much snow are we looking at in addition to what we've already seen there? look at that. that is more than a foot of snow. locally up to 18 inches of additional snowfall still possible in the upper peninsula of michigan. this is lake enhanced snow. not only looking at the storm system rolling through but picking up moisture from some of the lakes out there and producing some of that snow. temperatures behind the storm system are really frigid, well below average. up to 40 degrees below aver

maria molina is in the weather center with more. >> looks like the cold air is here to stay at leastther week or so across the center of the country and eventually it is moving eastward and is going to the east coast. we have a storm system associated with the cold blast of air and producing areas of heavy snow across wisconsin, minnesota and down into iowa. there are reports of 16 inches of snow just to the north of the city of minneapolis. we could be looking at 18 inches of snow across portions of the u.p. of michigan. very significant snowfall out here across portions of the great lakes. we have the storm system and lake enhanced snow. we are expecting some delays in places like chicago due to the storm system rolling through. but east of the storm not bad in places like boston, dc, atlanta. you are looking at sunshine and temperatures above average but don't forget along parts of the east coast the cold air will be spreading eastward. right now looking at current temperatures in the single digits in places like rapid city. ahead of it not bad in the 50's in places like new york

maria molina tracking it from new york city where it was ten degrees cooler right now, we would havesignificant snowfall across parts of the i-95 corridor. we do have some heavy snow farther off toward the west, across parts of ohio early this morning and also areas across western kentucky, indiana picked up some snow early this morning. about several inches. over the weekend, by the way, the same storm system produced snow across parts of the texas panhandle, central plains, including parts of missouri and even up into the great lakes region. you can see today it's on the move and across parts of new england, we're also seeing that snow coming down across maine, vermont, and also the state of new hampshire. we also have some severe weather being a concern with this storm system. we have several tornado watches in effect across parts of florida, georgia and also in alabama and that risk for severe storms will continue today. you can see we have two tornado warnings currently in effect out there across parts of the gulf coast. otherwise very cold air continues to move over the great l

let's check in with maria molina. awfully early for this cold weather. maria: it is a little early. these totals are incredible. out of michigan we have picked up 30 inches of snow from the arctic blast. temperatures 40 degrees below what is average for this time of year. a little cold, little too early and it is moving on out. therese frain in parts of the northeast and new england, most of it is generally very light. what will you notice coming tomorrow is colder temperatures and as a cold air moves over the great lakes it produces lake effect snow looking at pretty significant i can relations in parts of upstate new york in low-lying areas, 6-12 inches of rainfall again some very localized snowfall. these are the current windchill temperatures currently 17 degrees below zero in denver. 16 below zero in rapid city. that is how cold it feels when ahead outdoor, temperatures up to 40 degrees low average and the cold air will be spreading eastward and across parts of the southeast with temperatures forecast to be below average. that is today on the cold side as far south as texas wit

fox news' maria molina is in one of the hardest hit regions just outside of buffalo in pembrooke, new. >> here where we are we got two feet of snow. the good thing where we are, it is in an area where cars have been towed and truck drivers have been able to spend night out here, two nights, as a matter of fact. a lot of this has been plowed. a lot of snow around and, at our hotel, i want to show you really quickly video from it. this was shot in the overnight hours. six feet of snow. you can't even see cars in the parking lot. we did get to talk to a truck driver who spent the night out here for two nights already. his name is benjamin. i have him overhere. benjamin, you've been here two united states. our bosses don't think you will be able to get out tonight. why is that? >> because of the overall weather and abandoned cars and just the, overall snow. just constant snow coming down. as you can see this is pretty bad. >> still parts of highway are closed right now. those cars are still abandoned out here, we've seen people having to walk far distances as well, when we were trying to

. >> maria molina's tracking it all in the weather center. >> hey, everyone. a big change in the weather pattern in terms of temperatures. overall, precipitation looks very quiet across the country, but we had very warm temperatures yesterday, especially across parts of southern california and cold temperatures across the east. you still do have that cold air across the east for at least two more days, today and also into saturday. take a look at some of these current windchill temperatures. you're currently feeling like it's the 20s as you head out the door in new york city, teens in chicago and cleveland and 5 below zero is what it feels like in minneapolis. but the cold stretches farther west as well. in atlanta, you're looking at temperatures in georgia that feel like they're in the 20s. so, you've got to bundle up as you head out. a great day to spend it indoors in the mall. otherwise, high temperatures, again, below average across the east. you're seeing highs in the 30s in new york city and only in the 40s in atlanta and also in raleigh, north carolina.

our meteorologist, maria molina, has the latest from the fox weather center.st talking about our thanksgiving plans. >> reporter: bad timing, huh, on this storm system. we have a nor'easter, it's going to be producing all kinds of travel headaches across not only parts of the northeast and new england, but even as far south as parts of the mid atlantic, virginia could be picking up some snowfall especially along higher elevations. for today and as we head into tonight, the storm system will start to develop across parts of the southeast, and that'll cross parts of florida. the rain will continue out there not only today, but even into tomorrow. then the storm starts to track up the east coast, and this is when it intensifies. we're going to see the wind really picking up across the mid atlantic and new england, and along interior areas, that precipitation should remain mostly as snow. it's those coastal areas and cities along the i-95 corridor where it's going to be very tricky in terms of the forecast. we're going to start out as rain, then a bit of a mix, th

st maria molina is in the fox extreme weather center. >> reporter: hi, leah, good to see you.lo, everyone, and we still have snow lingering across portions of the northeast and across the great lakes, and some of this is lake enhanced, but we do have some snow across the boston area, as much as 2, even 4 inches of snow with winter weather advisories in effect. and you can see some snow coming down as well across parts of northern indiana. we're not looking at anything too significant, especially when you compare it to our nor'easter from this past wednesday that dumped more than a foot of snow from west virginia to parts of maine. so this time around just a couple of inches, if any, so be careful on the roadways. you are going to be encountering some slick spots. otherwise farther west we do have a snow system rolling into washington state, oregon and even northern california bringing in some rain out there, and some of that moisture hitting the rockies, and it is bringing in some areas of snow across parts of montana and also idaho. now, those temperatures across the eastern

maria molina is live in the travel center. >> we still have areas of rain across parts of florida opene carolinas. this white stuff here. also picking up that snowfall. especially along some of those higher elevations. you can see more than three hours on average. a big concern out here is not just the rain and snow. the very strong wind. that in itself will cause travel delays. all the way down through parts of virginia and west virginia. a bit tricky part of the forecast today is what will happen as far as snowfall accumulation. we have that rain, snow line right along these areas. you see snow mixing into that rain in new york city. some of the darker blue is accumulations. very significant out there. farther off towards the west, we also have a clipper system moving through. very cold temperatures and gusty wind. parts of the northern rockies northern rockies also looking at some snow moving through. take a look at the rest of the country. looking pretty good. sixtys and 70s out there. not everyone is dealing with that travel weather. >> that is right. you get laguardia and jfk shu

jon: mxp to maria molina puts herself in the middle of it outside of buffalo which can be very cold andhis time of year. what are you seeing? >> we have to drive out here to meet up with the satellite truck while we were traveling over to buffalo. in buffalo we saw white out conditions, white out conditions on the way over here. gusting 40 miles per hour. thunder and lightning with the snowfall, and cars abandoned on roadways, we saw a tractor-trailer go off the highway. extremely dangerous conditions. the town we are in right now we have the sun out, it is a very localized event, we do expect laklake effect snow event towars our west could actually shift toward our area and begin to produce heavy snow. these warnings are in effect for several days off of the great lakes. martha: is this unusual for this time of year? >> it is a little unusual such a powerful air mass moving south from canada, so lake effect snow is typically more common as we head into december or late november, so a little bit early. the water rights now is relatively warm, the cold air moves over the relatively warm

maria molina is joining us from our world headquarters. in new york city it is 60-something degrees. >> we're going to be looking at record high temperatures being set likely across portions of the east. it is very warm outside. i want to focus on buffalo. they got over seven feet of snow last week and now we're looking at rain impacting that region and significant snow melt because of how warm it is outside. flood warnings are in effect. we know rivers and creeks are running at high levels. look at that storm system. it is very widespread not only impacting buffalo but many cities along the i-95 corridor. boston picking up very heavy rain right now. we're likely going to be dealing with travel delays throughout the day. again very mild. highs in the 70's in places like raleigh, north carolina. upper 60's in new york city. look at chicago, rapid city, much cooler air in place. that will be moving eastward and cooling us down across portions of the east. i want to move forward towards wednesday into thursday, one of the busiest travel times

maria molina outside because she's tough. >> good to see you. chilly day across parts of the northeast. in new york city you're really going to need that scract. but it is nothing compared to what parts of buffalo dealing with. we picked up more than 60 inches of snow in many parts of south buffalo. look at this video. you can see snowplows cleaning up the streets. look at all that snow. the concern is as we head into this weekend and early next week we're going to see a significant warmup. all of that snow will be melting. there is rain in the forecast. now flood watches have been issued for the buffalo area because flooding is going to be a concern. otherwise across the rest of the country we have a storm system developing across the center of it and it could produce severe storms across portions of texas as we head into saturday. that will be something to watch. otherwise high temperatures today are going to be cold across the northeast and great lakes. look at that. highs in the 20's and 30's for many americans. let's head back inside. >> ma

maria molina has the latest. this is an area that can handle it, right? >> yeah.ockies. but it's still a lot of snow. we're talking 18 inches of snow forecast for some areas. this is why we do have winter storm warnings in effect and winter weather advisories from parts of montana and wyoming. farther east into the u.p. of michigan. pretty widespread area here looking at significant snowfall accumulations and the wind will also be a concern, gusting over 20 to 30 miles per hour, creating those whiteout conditions that are so dangerous on the road. you can see those snowfall totals forecast to be up to 18 inches possibly across parts of minnesota and also into wisconsin and michigan. high temperatures, this is going to be another big story because we're going to be looking at cold air moving southward. today the core of the cold is across places like minneapolis, rapid city where you have those highs only in the 20s. that cold air is going to continue to spread eastward and southward over the next few days. by thursday, many areas across the lower 48 will be well b

maria molina live from the fox news weather center.r: good mor.t's a big mess across parts of the east. we have a large storm system and it's producing areas of rain as far r south as parts of florida. we have that lane stretching into portions of the carolinas and mid-atlantic and snow coming down heavily across portions of pportions -- -- portions of pennsylvania and new england. delays averaging over two mowrls i -- twohours in la guardia. you can see the snow continuing to fall for hours. by 4:00 p.m. wednesday still snowing through philadelphia and portions of new england. it's close to the i95 corridor. we have been look at snowflakes in some of the higher spots across parts of new york stiff. so that will be something to watch for carefully. we could be seeing light accumulations across the i95 corridor. but the heavier portions are in the northeast. and as far south as north carolina. here is a look at the accumulations. the blue shading is 6 inches of snow and a foot across portions of southern new england. bill: 11 past. breaking his sil

meteorologist maria molina is in upstate new york. what does six feet of snow look like? ria: i am five feet tall so six feet is of what hired and i am. it looks like sand dunes, snow covering everything. our hotel parking lots is covered by six feet of snow. the cars are buried. when we got there, in the parking lot. stuart: you were stuck in your own truck, the tv truck is that in the snow, six feet of it. >> it was a little bit of a problem. new york is one of the hardest hit places in south buffalo. and for 24 hours that is a record for the entire united states so we wary there about our satellite truck could not make it said they had to be towed, the weather conditions were too bad to be on the road so we left our hotel and came out here and we tried to go back yesterday and conditions were terrible on the roadways and we got stuck way back three times of the people in buffalo really kind and coming together at helping out. it may get us and stuck and we're back here in new york a couple miles east of buffalo but we have to get back to the hotel to see what happens. a

meteorologist maria molina just outside of buffalo. what is it like where you are, maria? temperatures are very difficult. lake effect snow, more than 6 feet recorded in some areas and potentially a record amount of snowfall picked up in 24 hours across the entire united states, south buffalo. our hotel is in new york just to the south of the downtown buffalo area. we are stranded out here in new york. many other people stranded as well. trucks have been part out here. just to the north out here about 40 inches of snow picked up. this area hit hard by significant lin lake effect snow storm. the truck drivers don't think they can get home heading into today even though the sun is out. conditions have improved, there are too many abandoned cars on the highways and part of it is still closed, martha. martha: and things could get worse, we are learning. >> that is right. as we head into its night and tomorrow, another one or 2 feet of snow locally possibly even higher occurring. more of the same we saw over the last several days possible thunder and lightning, wind gust over 4

maria molina joining us with our first real brush with old man winter. >> reporter: hi, martha.he's going to be tick thing around -- sticking around for at least another week. temperatures 40 degrees below average for this time of year, so a little bit early on winter conditions across the country. here we are. as you've seen the past 12 hours, producing snow across portions of new england, most areas along the coast picking up some rain and seeing mixed with snow. off to the great lakes, you have that very cold air moving over the relatively warmer great lakes and that's producing some showers, so we're seeing accumulation from that. and part off towards the -- farther off towards the west we have a storm system that's been producing very heavy snowfall amounts across portions of the northwestern united states and also across parts of the oregon cascades. significant accumulation out there, exceeding a foot in some areas. temperature wise, take a look at how cold the lower 48 is right now. you're currently at 19 below zero for your wind chill in rapid city, that's what it feels

bill: so maria molina was just up there. she's back in studio. ou, maria, good morning to you. what is next? >> reporter: we're still expecting that snow to continue out there across areas in western new york, and that snow band -- so these are very localized lake effect snow bands, it's shifted to the south of some of the hardest-hit areas yesterday where we saw over 60 inches of snow. so parts of south buffalo, that's what it's called out there, those suburbs to the south of the downtown area that were just crippled due to that snowfall. snow's still coming off the of the lakes and farther off towards the west, snowfall as well across the state of michigan. but it's really that zone just to the south of the buffalo downtown area that's really looking at at least another two feet of snow. you're also going to be looking at strong wind gusts over 30 miles per hour, that's what produces those whiteout conditions. and now looking forward over the next several days, we have another bit of a concern because we have so much snow on the ground out there

maria molina's watching this. >> reporter: hi, bill. good to see you. hello, everyone.g a return of some very cold temperatures as we head into next week. but for now we do already have some cold air in place and moving into portions of the northeast, and i want to point out here that we have some significant snowfall forecast across portions of maine and other parts of new england. we do have some winter storm warnings in effect out here and additional 4-8 inches of snow is possible. some totals could be up to a foot out here, we're expecting wind gusts to 25 miles per hour. but that's not the coldest of the today you're looking at highs into the 40 and 50s in minneapolis, chicago, also into new york city, but take a look what starts to happen as we head into next week. very cold arctic air is going to move southward from canada, and these highs are going to be well below average. averages in kansas city and billings are in the 50s, some places are going to be up to 30 degrees colder than that average, places like billings, montana. only in the teens on thursday. these

maria molina, how cold will it be? >> oh, boy, it's going to be well below average.es up to 40 degrees colder than what's normal for this time of the year across parts of the lower 48, and it's already starting across parts of the northern plains and also into the northern rockies. we have a winter storm underway, wasn't weather warnings in effect across montana, the dakotas and across portions of the great lakes. throughout the day and also into tonight, and some areas could be looking at more than potentially a foot of snow, and the wind is also going to be a concern. we're looking at gusts potentially over 20 or even 30 miles per hour so, of course, producing whiteout conditions on the roadways, that's going to be a big concern. now, temperatures behind the storm system, that's going to be another issue and probably a bigger story for a larger part of the country. here's the temperatures coming up as we head into tonight and also into tomorrow morning. in rapid city you're going to be looking at temperatures that are below zero. not even below freezing, below zero
