now this is a mug shot of 19-year-old melvin bonilla charged today in connection with one of those cases, but police say he confessed to multiple sexual assault attempts. since last summer, women have been assaulted at 15th and scott streets in the 1200 block of north quincy street and the 1900 block of north highland street. police believe these cases are all the work of the same man. >> he used the cover of night to where he could conceal himself and ultimately surprise these women by grabbing them from behind, throwing them to the ground to where he would touch them inappropriately. >> after some painstaking police work, investigators managed to compare a sketch of the suspect to a picture of melvin bonilla on a metro bus. they then tracked his travels on the bus and staked out bus stops that he normally used. then this morning after he got off the bus and walked through this parking lot, they arrested him. they arrested him in this parking lot right across the street from police headquarters. >> the community has been on edge for the last couple of months, but again, we have been wor

say they captured the man behind a series of sexual assaults in the courthouse area. 19-year-old melvin bonilla facing charges of the attacks. he is suspected in at least one more. in each case a man attacked a woman late at night as she walked alone. nine women have been attacked ad in arlington since july. two disturbing cases of sexual assaults at hotel in manassas. twice this week the man sneaked in the hotel rooms at the win damn garden he -- wyndam garden hotel. and in each case the victim was a teenager visiting the u.s. in a school trip from south carolina. the -- from south korea. there is no evidence of forced entry in the room. this weekend hundreds of thousands are expected to converge on washington to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the million man march. this time around there is concern not only about the e-mail from the inside the u.s. capitol police department but also about a region wide counter protest. d.c. bureau chief sam ford is live on the national mall to explain. sam? >> minister louis farrakhan announced the theme last june. it's generating reaction includ

this is the famous melvin purvis, the special agent in charge of the chicago office, purvis is the agent who captured and killed john dill len jerry -- dylan jerry, bringing the -- but he let kelly slip through his fingers in chicago. the fbi discovered deli wassing would a place called the michigan tank as his address and a place where would would go and hang out and enjoy special protection from the police, and he assigned purvis to stake out the michigan tavern and try to snatch him. but literally purvis just forgot to do it. by the time he remembered, he sent two agent outside but they never went inside, and on that very day, kelly was inside arranging to get a new automobile to escape to memphis, tennessee in, this disnot make the director happy, and you may be aware that melvin purvis left the agency a few years after all of these great events were occurring. so, ultimately, they chase -- after about six to seven weeks on the road, they found kelly in memphis, tennessee, and successfully arrest him. there he is walking out of the courthouse in chains. guarded by machine gunners. th

nbc's craig melvin is live for us in columbia, south carolina, with all of the latest. craig, what's going on down there right now? >> reporter: ayman, i can tell you that the pictures and the video you just showed don't really do the scene justice. i grew up here, went to high school 15, 20 minutes away. no one who's lived here for any measurable amount of time has seen anything like this in the city of columbia. a number of the folks i've talked to all said the same thing. it wasn't the sheer amount of water, it was the speed in which the water came into their homes, rushed down their streets, came into these neighborhoods. i'm on a block here, i can tell you, i've talked to eight different homeowners. none of the homes in this particular block right now are salvageable. everyone has had to leave the homes. they've taken all their valuables with them. the insurance adjustors are coming. they're going to try to rebuild here. that's the scene across much of columbia, south carolina. i want to give you a look right now, high above the devastation. this is not far from wh
