kpix 5's jessica flores is live at usgs in menlo park this morning. what are officials saying about this 4.4 earthquake? >> reporter: so far, it's quiet here. but we expect an expert to come here and tell us all about the earthquake, the hayward fault line and what this means for future earthquakes and what this means for the bay area. we haven't heard about damage at this point but let's show you video of what it looked like. it was shaking for about five seconds, initially reported as 4.5 and then downgraded to 4.4. that's a rude wake-up call for folks across the bay area jolted out of bed including myself. so if you if you were up at 2:39 a.m., you probably felt the earthquake for five seconds. it rattled berkeley all the way down to -- people could feel it in san jose. people felt it in san francisco and even to concord. i live in oakland where i felt it. so it was widespread across the bay area. but the epicenter was in berkeley. later this morning we expect to hear from seismologists' usgs about the nature of the earthquake, how deep was and wha
