live in amityville, new york, michelle charlesworth, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thanks a lot. >>> also new this half hour, classes canceled at a school in westchester county after school buses targeted by vandals. >> someone damaged more than 20 buses at the somers parking lot preventing students from eyewitness news reporter joe details. joe? >> reporter: hey, david and shirleen, first day of classes. it was supposed to be that way in somers. somebody wanted to make the break a little bit longer. no classes today. same story at the high school and elementary school not far away. this is after vandalism to about half of the district school buses. we would love to show you pictures of the damage but because it's a crime scene, our access to that area is restricted. now, there are about 3200 kids in the district here but it's empty classrooms. empty hallways in the buildings. there are staff an administrators on hand. they are the ones handling the flood of phone calls that have come in from parents looking for more information. the district initially put out an e-mail alert to the

. >> i'm michelle charlesworth. folks are out and about. let's go to amy freeze. what is doing? >> it's raining in a few parts of the area. not a wash out. we are seeing improvements on the live cameras across the area. here is what has changed. the skies brightening to the west. rain wrapping out and temperatures are going up up as well. this live vantage point from the gwb shows the clouds rapidly moving out and brighter skies off to the west. roads are still damp and be aware of that because it could be slick in spots. every place in the city and even in the surrounding suburbs is above freezing by 10 degrees. there were cold spots last night in the upper elevations.
