i filed a lawsuit here in michigan.ng to protect abortion rights for michiganders and for women from ohio and indiana who come here for reproductive health care as well. we're waging this war. we're trying to keep this 1931 law that makes it a felony, no exceptions for rape or incest, from going into effect. but it's a precarious moment. >> are you going to be able to block it from going into effect? i mean, it is the law of michigan. >> so i filed this lawsuit a couple months ago. people thought that it was too early or maybe it wasn't going to be necessary, and obviously both was timely and absolutely necessary. we are hoping that the court will take action soon. the theory of the lawsuit is that under the michigan constitution, women have due process and equal protection, right to privacy and bodily autonomy and i'm hoping our judges move swiftly and recognize that right here. >> if they don't, what happens? >> well, we have another lawsuit that got an injunction against the 1931 law, so it has not gone into effect.

michigan is the flip.gan ballot initiative, and it looks like they have enough signatures put it on for november, is to add protection for abortion access into the michigan constitution explicitly. now, it's important to note that governor gretchen whitmer and also planned parenthood have filed lawsuits making the same argument that was made in kansas in 2019, that our constitution already protects abortion access with the language that exists, and they received a district court injunction saying -- agreeing with them, saying they have a likelihood of success on the merits. that will be appealed up. we'll have to see what happens. a more secure alternative and response is to pass this constitutional amendment in november in michigan. >> there are also questions about the security of apps that track menstrual cycles, period tracking apps. we saw in 2019 the director of the missouri state health department admitted to having a spreadsheet tracking the menstrual periods of planned parenthood patients, this ha

for michigan. we heard from her as.nna recap now, was sort of mind-blowing to me, a mind-blowing amount of new information on the issue of fake electors. the hearing today revealed a lot of new information on the part of the plot where trump tried to make republican officials in states he lost, nevertheless, sending electors to the electoral college for him as if he had one. this is not up, when i saw at least, the new information that we heard today from the hearing. first we saw that from the hearing today, that the white house counsel's office said explicitly, hold people including try white house chief of staff mark meadows, and rudy giuliani, white house counsel office, explicitly told them that their fake elector scheme was not legal. also we learned of the trump campaign lawyers all bailed on this game. make sure they themselves had nothing to do with it because they two believed it was illegal. we also learned that the trump campaign lawyers apparently did not convey this fact down the line. and so republicans w

look, michigan is a purple state. right? you've seen red states enacting trigger laws and blue states trying to fortify abortion rights in the wake of this expected ruling, but when you have these purple states, you've got a big battle here, because you have a democratic governor who's trying to protect these rights. state legislature fighting against them, and this is going to play out in the courts. it's going to play out in politics on the ballot in november, and right now the governor has sued to try to make this law ineffective, but the state legislature is fighting back. just yesterday some house lawmakers proenlzproposed a bil would sentence abortion providers to up to ten years in prison if they do, in fact, provide abortion care. this is going to be a major, major fight here. in fact, just as we were standing here i had a woman walk up to me asking to talk. she was in tears. she is in her 60s. says she was 18 years old when roe took effect and she was just baffled, and furious and having a hard time wrapping her min
