mike inouye. >> looking at the bay bridge toll plaza, good news. we have better flow of traffic at the toll plaza over the last few minutes, they've opened all but one of the cash lanes. it's just your third lane you see at the red night. the fast track and hov lanes are open and operating. there's a minor backup as you approach the toll lanes off to the left on your approach. we'll look at the map. no major problems. we had a crash reported east 580 through oakland. that has cleared at fruitvale and turned out not to be a crashed vehicle, it's a pile of trash, sounds like a pretty sizable piece of trash. watch for cleanup crews. no problems here for 24. fish ranch road off highway 24 we still have reports of that crash, minor injuries to the driver. it's just south of the freeway and the off-ramp, sounds like everything is fine for that, is open and flowing. a nice drive at the north bay. speeds throughout the limit. southbound 101 towards the golden gate bridge out of san rafael. lucas valley road, reports of a crash, about ten miles off highway

mike inouye calling this one traffic tuesday. looks like it's living up to that billing. 4:55 right now. we can tell you about a major delay in the planned opening of the new span of the bay bridge, this one for safety reasons. caltrans deciding the push the opening sedate back to december at the earliest. that means the current bridge will not have to be closed for the labor day weekend. officials they say defective seismic safety bolt also have to be reinforced with a steel saddle before that span can open. the work isn't expected to be completed until sometime after december 10th. >>> contract talks between b.a.r.t. ats and its biggest unions have stalled. both sides admits a contract deal is far away but agreed to resume talking on friday. b.a.r.t. will run this morning despite the breakdown in communication. last week workers agreed to work for 30 days while the negotiations continue. if an agreement is not reached by the deadline, workers will strike again. last week's four-day strike snarled traffic across the bay area. >>

let's get right to mike inouye. what you tracking? >> now you caught me. i was running around. i was just running late. it is a little wet out there, as christina said, the entire bay area has been hit overnight and continuing with spotty rain as well. looking over to antioch where we did just get hit. christine talking about that area. road weather index showing it might be slick. highway 4 registering. our traffic and weather systems tieing together. also some slowing through antioch and into pittsburgh. it's actually a little light there than we expect on a traffic tuesday. at walnut creek, not a problem as far as the speeds go. the green means it might be damp slick. the blue means there may be ponding or puddling that might happen for the hills off 680. no chp problems reported through the area. that's good news as well. as we move to the altamont pass, a good deal of rain. there may be puddles, but there's enough cars, enough traffic that they might have kicked it off the roadway. be careful of the off-ramps. if you're coming off freeway speeds, the earlier stall has clea

let's check the drive with mike inouye. >> getting really bad right now. we'll talk about this right now. this is westbound 80, the pinole valley road off to the shoulder. that's great news off the carquinez bridge. what's going on here, they could use something that would clear this heading out through richmond. that's the problem. we have a crash reported at barrett, maybe another one at carlson. let's look at the speeds as you come through the area. this crash still has to be moved to the shoulder, right in the middle of the freeway. that's a horrible time for this to happen. as a tow truck arrives you'll find more slowing, probably a traffic break and they'll move you to the shoulder at the scene. folks are squeaking by on either side, causing more backup. once you pass carlson and the race track over here toward the speed limit. much better if you're traveling from berkeley toward the bay bridge toll plaza. the metering lights are on at the toll plaza. let's look at that. because of the folks held up on the upper eastshore freeway. these cash lanes wi

station and mike inouye with a look at how you can get around without b.a.r.t.christie smith is live in oakland at the lake merit b.a.r.t. station. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, marla. it is strangely quiet out here. normally you would see commuters running in, flying down last-minute to catch their train but no trains running at all. instead the union workers out here on the picket line. in fact, they walked off at midnight after their contract expired. i just heard from a b.a.r.t. spokesperson this morning and he's telling me they would certainly like a resolution on this soon. but right now they have no idea exactly how long this strike might last. b.a.r.t. could not come to an agreement with its two largest unions, for the first time since 1997, b.a.r.t. workers are out on strike. the issues here, workers' contribution to pension and benefits, wages. the unions say it's also about safety. but with the system out of service, 400,000 riders have to find other ways to get around, get across the bay, after the four-year contract expired. >> wel

let's find out if the drive is average or better with mike inouye. >>> it's pretty average for friday which means things are light. a couple of spots we're watching. the peninsula and south bay looking clear. south bay warning, garlic festival going on. 101 through morgan hill and gilroy will be crowded all weekend because of the traffic there. looking over here to the east bay, north 880 at 92, chp arrived on scene and said everything might be blocking the slowing. at least at times there might be crews there. stay to your left as you travel north past 92. that's the san mateo bridge, and heading into hayward and toward 238. a smooth drive westbound 584 at the dublin interchange. we have an earlier hazard, a stalled car west 580 at north livermore. it may be cleared from the scene. a lot of slowing out of the altamont pass. this is around grant line road where we had an earlier car fire on the shoulder. no injuries. there was enough distraction and enough activity to cause the backup off 205. that traffic will start moving overthrow the altamont pass and toward livermore. we're watch
