senior correspondent mike tobin picks up the story tonight from there. good evening, mike. >> good evening. what is clear in the video is that while a white police officer is kneeling on this man's neck, he makes it very clear multiple times that he's having difficult he breathing. >> i can't breathe, officer. you're going to kill me, man. >> ultimately see the man identified as george floyd stop moving and become unresponsive while onlookers shouted that he had stopped breathing. he was limp when paramedics arrived to load him onto a nebulous. the reason he interacting with police was suspicion of forgery. a well-known civil rights attorney has intervened in the case and issued a statement "this abusive, excessive, inhumane use of force cost the life of a man who was being detained for questioning about a nonviolent charge." the head of the ncaa in minneapolis called this a lynching but instead of a rope, the officer used his knee. the four officers have been fired and the mayor says he backs the decision of the police chief. >> i will say simply that i

that special investigative report just breaking but first mike tobin on the ground with the latest on the situation unfolding tonight in minneapolis, mike, what is going on? >> let me give you a look around, sean, it barricade that the demonstrators have erected a pier it doesn't seem to have a strategic anything. it is guards from a local dome at carts from a local target dam paraphernalia they got their hands on with my chanting george floored the name of the individual who was killed here and now, we are at the third precinct and this is the precinct from which those police officers were dispatched. and as we go on, looking back at the police headquarters and you can see some of the glass is broken out at the third precinct. you have a lot of police officers ready right now. what they have are the rubber bullets. you see tasers at their sides. there has been a lot of pepper spray and flash bangs deployed tonight. and usually, the way it starts is a little bit of back-and-forth. you will see a lot of the crowd out here at the usual chanting and then you will see someone come flying

we will be checking in throughout the hour with mike tobin and mike is going to be interviewing some of the people on the ground listening to what they say, standby, washington tonight. >> good evening outside of the white house at 9:00, we've got a crowd of maybe 100, 150 earlier today, this protester grew and got quite confrontational along the north fence line of the white house. they ran some bicycle barricades that separate and the protesters began to shove those over. that did not go over very well with the secret service who initially appeared to be caught off guard, reinforcements came in, and they were able to push the protesters back pretty quickly, the protesters left and right now at 9:00, protests at three places in washington chance of black lives matter with the president upse upstairn the residence. what they call stay-at-home life here in washington, d.c., so they lifted a lot of the coronavirus restrictions and they are certainly out in force in the streets and they seem to be growing. in this way we have not seen the secret service that happened a couple of hours a

let's go back to mike tobin, he's on the ground and he's been talking with the protesters. mike, what are they putting on? >what are they saying? >> what i've seen from the demonstrators again and again is a mistrust with the system and the belief it's not moving fast. they believe if it doesn't move quickly, justice is not going to move at all appeared frankly, sean, what i'm seeing here is a lot of palpable anger. a lot of demonstrations where it seems like the whole thing is a street party or a big raucous demonstration, a chance for kids to get out and have some fun. this is different. people are angry. everybody who is seen that video can't come up with a reason to justify what they've seen in the video. they are out here demonstrating. the police are responding with the nonlethal weaponry. let me show you an example of some of that nonlethal weaponry. you turn around, this is the kind of rubber bullets the people in the crowd say are comingf down from the police. there is a gentleman here, i want to track him down. come up here. let's see. >> i'm holding a sign. protes

we want to check in with mike tobin in minneapolis. mike, there is a very different theme from what jonathan terry is showing us in atlanta, heavy vehicles, heavy armed officers, and what we are seeing in minneapolis where you don't have the cover of law enforcement and it seems that that is only encouraging or at least allowing this behavior that many of the protesters fear is drowning out their real core message, or at least as what this started out as. >> it is hard to say many of the protesters feel that their messages drowned out, but certainly some of them and some of them that we have had the good fortune to speak with feel that they have been drowned out. but as you are looking at 31st street, i can tell you from my observation the numbers have thinned out. there is the party going on, but i want to show you here off in this direction, it may be hard to see with the camera at nighttime, but there is a bunch of smoke, and what i have from a contact around the other side of that location is that that is the wells fargo bank that i

we are told as mike tobin has been on the ground that the third precinct, the police station where a t of these protests and eventual riots were taking place. that police have evacuated. they left the scene, and mike can tell us much more. mike. >> we moved around to the east side of the third precinct. let me step out of the shot so you can see clearly. no mob has this one. at the front of the entrance here on the east side is in flames. the demonstrators are up on the fence, dancing, shooting fireworks into the air, they have been in and out of the building. in fact, we see them leaving the building with some helmets. and there is an explosion out of the front of the precinct. and lighting roman candles at the front end of that. and i want to show you the minnehaha lake wine and spirits engulfed in flames. not only that dramatic flames, but that's where there was a big collapse of the storefront, but flames leaping out of the center of the building, there is some kind of hole in the top of that liquor store, of course the liquor store owner is not connected to the tragic event. but

mike tobin has been there for the start of it. he joins me live in minneapolis, mike hello. >> bill there is some satisfaction with the arrest of derek chauvin but some resentment as well because it took full 4k -- four days. the demonstrators and the charges. also, different scene with hennepin county attorney mike freeman suggesting that the possibility remains open and other officers on the scene will be arrested in the future. >> we felt that it was appropriate to focus on the most dangerous perpetrator. the officers are under investigation. i anticipate charges, but i am not going to get into that. >> what we witnessed last night was that dramatic scene of an entire police precinct, third precinct being a retreat under pressure from the angry mob. they held him at bay for a time and shortly before 10:00 they mounted up in the parking lot to the website of the third precinct and left mass. some officers on foot, all the vehicles gone and it was soon anarchy, if you will. the mob took over. what followed was rioting, looting, va

governor, i understand, mike tobin just interviewed a guy extremely articulate and passionate how heeels, a guy who has served this country. i see the crowds here and i see the guy was armed. i think about all the people of the city and i think about what's happening. can you explain the process, what the president's expedited investigation means, in the hopes that people won't get hurt in these protests, or any innocent people hurt. >> absolutely, sean. what the president will have done is that director wray will put a flood of fbi agents both from their field office in minneapolis, from their headquarters in washington, d.c., to interview anyone who was in that crowd, anyone in the area. attempt to interview the officers themselves, the mayor may not permit the interviews, they may have lawyers, which i suspect theyct have. look at all the forensics evidence and immediately go to the u.s. attorney in minnesota who has already assigned u.s. assistant attorneys to work with the fbi on this case and to get it in front of a grand jury as quickly as possible. that's what they are going

. >> dana: mike tobin, you will stick around for eric custer, can i talk about you about the three other officers on the scene. now that derek chauvin has been arrested and charged, do you think there will be charges against the others because they were there and standing by and didn't intervene? >> i do believe there should be charges against the officers. they are individually sworn to protect the public. and when an officer stands idly by and watch a murder occur or police brutality occur, then they become complicit in that particular act. in this situation, these officers stood by while watching this interaction with the officer shoving his knee in his neck cutting off his airway. they watched it happen. but they are complacent. they are complicit with an action and they should be charged. not only do they have to handle justice for mr. floyd, but also send a message to all the other officers that when you see something happening, do something about it. don't stand idly by and get rid of that blue code silence and protect and serve the people that you are created to do. >> dana: can

that's where "fox news" correspondent mike tobin is. mike what's the scene on the ground?ne >> things are considerably calmer here in minneapolis after the local authorities and state authorities came up with a big show of force, enforcing the curfew this time. it was about 45 minutes after 8:00 p.m. when we saw busloads of state troopers, sheriff's deputies state police showing up at the fifth precinct which has become the newest standoff for flashpoint if you will. there were hundreds of demonstrators still out thereran front of the fifth precinct and forces came in, law enforcement forces came in with a lot of gear, rapper -- rubber bullets and pepper balls. they cleared out the streets and we sub us loads and busloads of people going by who had been detained for violating curfew. they continued throughout the city and went straight i street and started cleaning up little skirmishes as the demonstrators broke into smaller groups and ran around. they are still some fires burning in the city but muchun smaller than what we saw, considerably smaller than what we saw last n

our mike tobin was there throughout and joins us once again on the ground in minneapolis. mike? >> jon, a dramatically different scene here in minneapolis today after police in large numbers enforced the curfew. what we saw today on a beautiful sunny day is peaceful protests, as they're described, peaceful yet defiant. the demonstrators left from the u.s. bank stadium here, showing you live pictures, they left from this location and went on to i-94. they're blocking traffic out there. but what you will notice as you look at the live pictures is as the demonstrators march, the police are along with them providing protection because they are in traffic. so a very different scene, with the police working with the demonstrators, and one of the things about the demonstrations that we see, and we see this a lot during the day, it is very much focused on the death of george floyd and the outrage that people unanimously have agreed upon as they witness that video. they stay very focused. there's marches. there's demonstration. there's chanting. that's opposed to the kind of things we se

people are running into stores and grabbing things. >> shannon: let me bring in mike tobin who is also on the ground in minneapolis, mike, you have heard -- you may have been able to hear what steve was saying. you are in different parts of minneapolis, how far or widespread would you say what you are seeing tonight is? are we talking about a couple of blocks, multiple blocks, are you able to assess just how far the area is that it appears to be zero law enforcement? >> well, that is kind of a tough answer, because the destruction really did spread last night and tonight all over the city. it was not -- it had some areas of concentration last night in particular in the area of the third precinct, but now we are pretty close to the area of the fifth precinct, and you can see right now that people are going in and out of the dollar tree and officemax. see our share of buildings, and no one stopping them, just going in and out, wherever they feel like picking up cars, but in terms of the location as you are asking me, the destruction in terms of just broken windows here and there is reall

for the latest developments, we turn now to fox news senior correspondent mike tobin in minneapolis. . >> reporter: hello, lou. behind me you can see a lot of the aftermath of this violent night in minneapolis, this is the area around the 3rd police precinct, that was the precinct from which the officers were dispatched involved in this incident. you're looking at the aftermath of the autozone store. we watchedded as it was torched last night. witnesses say the demonstrators put in a box of fireworks, then set that off. all sorts of flammable things inside, and as people tried to put it out, protesters pelted them with bottles and other things to dissuade them. what you're looking at right now is the 3rd precinct itself, and this standoff, if you will, has been mounting now for hours and growing in numbers. what you see is a crowd of protesters out on lake and minnehaha in the intersection there, and their numbers are growing. a little harder to see is the row of police officers in their riot gear at the ready. what they're doing is preventing the demonstrators from getting up into th

mike tobin back out this afternoon getting ready for an evening later on tonight. mike, what is happening today. >> this is the target store in minneapolis >> summer community volunteers to clean up in the aftermath. and i should say there is a third group. some people going into you can see all the entrances that are breaking out all the way up and down the strip mall, entrances and windows are broken out and people are coming and going unabated. last night, it was a free-for-all. people had the grocery carts out, loaded up whatever they could inside and ended up in front of the precinct where they became makeshift barriers on the street. you see the chaos that was last night, you see the chaos going on right now, neighbors here say they want something done about it. >> i live six blocks away and i'm very upset that target hasn't boarded up its doors. it's creating chaos in the neighborhood. people are still going in and looting on the loading dock in the front and people are coming in from outside the neighborhood to watch or loot, and it's a dangerous situation.

mike tobin is live in minneapolis with the latest. mike?> and jon, just before midnight last night, the building behind me is the one we saw start going up in flames. ultimately around midnight or a little bit thereafter, it was billowing flames and smoke, and you can see now what remains, nothing but a charred left over -- the building is atlas staffing, anybody who is dependent on atlas staffing, they won't be returning to this building to earn their paychecks. this was one of three major fires that we could see burning in this general area last night. governor walz says the state patrol made some 95 arrests last night. of those arrests, the people -- some of the people they arrested were from arkansas, iowa, illinois, michigan and missouri. he called them a tightly-controlled group of outside agitators. because of those agitators, he essentially believes that there will be more ugly images before it gets better out here. >> the call will go out to join, and the call will be there to try and break the back of civil society and the people
