it started as a gang dispute and it got so big that the school officers had to radio for the montgomery countyice officers to break things up. we decided to report on the story yesterday because it involved student safety. parents had not been notified of the fight. following the cover, the montgomery blair high school principal renee johnson sent home a one-page letter today that called our reporting into question. miss johnson's letter said in part "yesterday's news report mistates the facts. only ten students were involved and no staff members were injured. in both incidents they received discipline in line with the conduct. first they claimed only ten students were involved this cell phone video clearly shows many more students yelling and shouting and causing overall disturbance in a second floor holloway. the fight elevated to a level that said caused a mass disturbance and disruption of the school day. mcps is asserting that one has to throw a punch or give a stern kick to be involved in the fight. i imagine the police officers and the teacher forced to corral the chaos would strongly d

developing in montgomery county. alcohol in a crash where a police officer was hit. the officer was conducting a traffic stop south of edmonton drive. "news4's" megan mcgrath where she just received an update on the condition. meg snn. >> just a few hours ago i got on the phone with a police spokesperson. i have new information here. the plivg who was struck and injured, he has very serious injuries but he has survived surgery and continues to be treated here at the hospital. this all began to unfold around 9:45 last night. the montgomery county police officer had pulled over a car on rockville pike near ed mondayson drive and was outside a police cruiser when hit by a passing suv. the driver of the suv did stay on the scene and was taken into custody. however, police are looking into the possibility that that driver was under the influence of alcohol when he hit -- or when that driver hit the officer. the officer was struck, has been on the montgomery county ploos force for less than five years and had just temporar

the funeral just started for montgomery county officer noah leotta. he was hit by a suspected drunk driver almost two weeks ago and died last thursday. news 4's kristin wright joins us with more now. >> reporter: the service is happening now. it started about 15 minutes ago. we were talking to a police captain with montgomery county police department earlier today. he said there are a lot of things that get easier when you work in law enforcement but this is not one of them. officer noah leotta's body arrived to covenant life church a little while ago. he was welcomed with beautiful fanfare here today. it looked to be uniformed officers th s thas that carriedt into the church. law officers from near and far are here to pay tribute to him. the line of vehicles to the church lasted two hours. officer leotta was local, he grew up in montgomery county, but it's clear the loss of this young officer is deeply felt in our community and beyond. >> respect many people coming in from close by, but also further away. >> reporter: the montgomery county police chi
