we're standing here in morgan hill. and this will be near where sierra was supposed to catch her school bus last friday morning. they're trying to see if drivers remember anything unusual about that morning when she disappeared. now, we just spoke with her parents who are trying to keep their hopes up, but they admit it's hard, especially after news yesterday the sheriff's office confirmed they had found some of sierra's belongings in a field not far from her home. on sunday, searchers came along her pink purse and a pair of pants folded along with undergarments. her mother believes sierra was wearing that jersey when she left the house because of a picture she took of herself last friday morning on her computer. the lamars realized that something is not right. that abduction is a strong possibility, but they tell us, they don't even want to go there. >> we love you so much and everybody loves you so much and, you know, we -- our hearts are really aching -- aching for your safe return and we're all praying and we know t

sierra was last seen at 6:00 last friday morning at her home in morgan hill. at 7:15, she was supposed to catch a school bus a couple of blocks away and we were at this intersection of palm and dougherty where she is a sophomore. she never made that bus. a search party eventually saw her cell phone, and as you can see on this map, that's in the opposite direction of her school bus stop e less than a mile from her home and incidentally, that location of the cell phone is steps away from a bus stop that ends at the station in san jose. no cluesiot that cell phone from her whereabouts. this whole area is rural with little traffic and it's possible for something to happen and there not to be any witnesses. family and friends are praying for the best. they gathered last night at a local church for a candlelight vigil during which marlene lamar begged for her daughter's quick return. >> if you can hear me, just realize how much i love you and want you back. i want you back. i love you, and i just want you back. >> reporter: the santa clara county sheriff's office sa

. >> the search for a morgan hill teen takes a turn. they took fremont late this afternoon. i'm jessica aguire. >> i'm raj mathai. the search for sierra is growing more desperate by the hour. she vanished on friday and never showed up to school. they found her cell phone on saturday and no sign of sierra. they are tracking down registered sex offenders looking for clues as part of a community-wide effort that stretches from morgan hill to fremont. let's bring in george kiriyama with the latest. george? >> reporter: everyone from the family to the sheriff's investigators to friends are still trying to figure out if she was abducted or ran away. tonight from fremont to morgan hill, her friends posted flyers reminding everyone to be on the look out. >> i don't want her to be gone. i want her home. >> no one has heard from her seen sierra since friday morning. no phone calls, text messages or e-mails. it's hard not to cry knowing her friend is nowhere to be found. >> it's like a nightmare. i don't want to believe it. it's true and we have to get to word out. i want her home. >>

we go now live to terry mcsweeney in morgan hill on the search for sierra lamar.w? >> reporter: that's right. just a few minutes ago the first volunteers started turning up here where the search for sierra lamar has been headquartered for the past week. something one of those searchers found yesterday has investigators really taking a look to see maybe this can break this case wide open. take a look at where they found these items and i'll tell you what they found. a box labeled stainless steel handcuffs, inside used condoms. this box was phone a mile from sierra's home and the -- this box was found a mile from sierra's home and the bus stop where she disappeared two weeks ago this morning. a searcher found that box west end of palm avenue this is area that has been searched five times by different searchers. nothing was spotted, maybe it was overlooked. maybe it just arrived there. maybe it has nothing to do with this case. it is going to be tested to find out. they have sierra's phone, her purse, found shortly after her disappearance. now they have this box of w

radius around her morgan hill house.rsday, police divulged that they had found her purse several days ago about 2 mi. from her home with clothing neatly folded inside. >> no one saw her leave the house. we do not know if those are the clothes she was wearing or of those rare extra clothes she had inside of her back at the time. >> search teams expanded up and down a cul-de-sac or family lives. teams were going door to door checking backyards, garages and bringing dogs through all neighboring properties. investigators also revealed that she send a text message to a friend just after 7:00 a.m., friday she disappeared and sent out a tweet from her home computer. they do not know where she was when she said to the text message. >>justine: stay with us on kron4 and www.kron4.com as we continue to follow the latest on the search for sierra lamar. we will have a live report from different locations where they are searching for her coming up at 5:00 a.m.. >>erica: them to have a lot to talk about in terms of the impending storm.

nbc bay area's kimberly terry is in morgan hill at the site of a new search center with the latest for us. >> reporter: diane, the shut-down burnett elementary school in morgan hill will reopen tuesday as the official search center for sierra lamar. her family spent time getting things ready as they refocus their energy toward more organized searches. in gilroy, a south valley community church sunday morning services dedicated to sierra lamar. the 15-year-old was last seen on march 16th in her morgan hill home before heading to school. >> it gets harder and harder but we're hanging in there. we're hopeful. we're not giving up. >> reporter: for the first time since satisfactory went missing her family went on their first organized search today. lamar's father steve was supported by marc klaas, whose daughter polly went missing and was found dead in 1993. also with them today, michael lay, the brother of nursing student michelle lay whose body was found four months after she disappeared from kaiser medical center in hayward last year. >> no one expects the situation to develop, it just d

lisa amin gulezian reports. >> reporter: this is above the west end of palm avenue in morgan hill. to the side of the road near parked cars a volunteer searcher found an empty box labeled stainless steel handcuffs and five feet away, two used condoms. >> we don't know if these items are going to be related to the case or not. we are going to have them submitted to the crime lab. >> reporter: this is a mile and a half from sierra lamar's home. those who live nearby are surprised by the discovery. >> it is not a lover's lane or party alley. once in a while you see a car nothing like that. >> reporter: the items will be tested for dna, prints and other trace evidence. this comes nearly two weeks after sierra lamar's disappearance. no one has seen the 15-year-old since march 16th, she never made it to school that morning. hundreds have searched a 12 mile radius from her home. investigators are saying sierra may have been abducted. the full scale volunteer search effort will continue everyday until sunday. in san jose, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. >>> police in antioch continue to dev
