mr. president, i don't know if you realize what was in that bill. a friend of mine, dan patricktor in texas, was the sponsor. and one of the elements of the bill was it required if a person was going to have an abortion, it made sure that the woman in that abortion clinic knew that she was going to a clinic that had the same kind of medical care and capacity as would be any other surgical center in the state. in other words, because abortion is a surgical procedure, wouldn't it be in the interest of women's health to make sure that if something went wrong there was at least some type of basic fundamental equipment to take care of that mother? is abortion so important that we don't care about the mother? and by the way, to protect a baby from feeling pain, i can't imagine any of us would be against that. we live in a world where we try so hard to alleviate all our pain, and then to be willing to inflict it upon an unborn child? i'm sorry, i'm not going to congratulate anyone who thinks that's okay.
