we've had brand in north central iowa and now you can see the storms that extend from st. ann's up to lyon springs near the minnesota border. those are strong ones there and have the potenls to produce winds and certainly very heavy rains and these are back building into western iowa so eventually they'll come across northeastern iowa tonight and here is the issue. we have a very slow moving front draped across the state. south is the 90s. northwestern iowa in the 70s. there -- instability from there and of course that's the lift to get the thunderstorms going. another interesting feature is the tropical moisture coming in from hurricane newson. so that -- newton. that moisture is coming up. gulf of mexico moisture coming into the midwest and the combination of the two led to a moist atmosphere and any thunderstorm is likely to produce very heavy rains in a short period of time. so at 7:00 tonight, most of the tiers counties. they kick into wisconsin and as the low level jet develops tonight, additional thunderstorms start to develop in north central iowa. you can see how

week, the obama administration temporarily halted construction of a part of the pipeline in north dakota. the iowa supreme court is deciding whether to weigh in on a lawsuit pitting des moines water works against upstream farmers. the farmers are accused of contaminating rivers with nitrates from fertilizer. the justices heard arguments yesterday in the case, which asks the court to decide immunity from the lawsuit. if not, the water utility can ask for monetary damages. water works officials say removing excess nitrate from water cost one point five million dollars last year. the agency sued three northwest iowa counties that oversee 10 drainage districts. the lawsuit is on hold until the iowa supreme court makes its ruling. neighbors in iowa city must wait a little longer to find out if a plan to build a house resembling forward. the iowa city board of adjustment postponed its decision on whether to let a decorah couple build the home. the neighbors of manville heights association and some property owners in the area are appealing the city's building permit. one person says that construction of

these will extend into north- central iowa. as a start going into the south east there will be more heavy rain particularly in the northern and central counties flash flooding but the river flooding that we are expecting in eastern iowa. as we take a look at the predictor this is what our model is expecting. at 11:00 you can see the storms . by 1:00 they are rolling across the northern counties and at 3 am a are up there. at 5 am the rain is still coming down. the threat will be around until tomorrow morning and hopefully a break as we get into the late morning hours and some of the starts to lift the region. as far as rainfall goes, this is our latest model and it is showing around 3.38 inches in the waterloo area. the northern counties could see what to 3 inch totals but some amounts could be higher than that. you can imagine what three or 4 inches into waterloo could mean. tonight we will have scattered showers and some of those will be heavy particularly in the with lows in the 60s. for tomorrow warm and muggy and scattered
