the ntsb is looking into this.hat type of failures are they going to be looking for in that engine? >> they're going to be through that engine piece by piece. when you look at the engine, it appears that we had a fan section or a compressor section fail. but i'm not convinced of that as i look at the damage. so the ntsb is going to go through that engine physically, to see what they can find, what pieces are embedded into the engine and the ones that embedded into the airplane. so they'll look at those and they'll be going to the facility that overallhauled this engine, because when these airplanes go through these repair facilities, many of these parts are x rayed or have many forms of nondestructive testing done on them. and they're going do want to know what all was done and what procedures they followed. they're going to talk to anyone in that shop that had anything to do with that engine. >> will the blame for this all lie with southwest, ultimately? >> it's too soon to tell. >> john, thank you very much for e

nbc's phil lebeau joining us we'll talk about that probe by the ntsb and what tesla had to say.esla, moving and awaiting the first quarter production number. tesla reports these the first couple of days after each quarter. thought it might have happened yesterday, did not here's what we're looking in terms of q1 production, when you look at q1 production, ultimately, this is what's driving the stock. guidance, 2500 per week, by the end of march now, that doesn't mean they have to make 2500 in that last week, but they have to have the production rate up to level to say, yeah, we met guidance most do not expect that to happen the other question is do they change their guidance for q2 which is 5,000 per week by the end of the second quarter? >> let's talk about the probe by the national safety board, this involved a model x crash a fatal accident in mountainview where the driver ran straight into a barricade the driver was warned before the accident that the autopilot system was engaged the system was telling the driver to get engaged with the vehicle. take control of the steering

let's listen to an ntsb spokesperson. >> we do have information there was one fatality. any other questions? >> can you speak to how rare an uncontained engine fire is? >> the term, you said an uncontained engine fire, some are saying uncontained engine failure. we don't think there was a fire at all. now the term has been widely used this morning and this afternoon uncontained engine failure. now i don't want to sound bureaucratic, but that uncontained engine failure connotates a very specific thing. the engine is designed not to have an uncontained engine failure. there are protection rings around the engine to keep sh shrapnel from coming out. even though they came out of the engine, it was not in the section of the engine that could qualify this as an uncontained engine failure. so at this point, the ntsb is classifying this, we're saying this is an engine failure. once we get there and look at it, we may say, well, in fact this is uncontained engine failure. we do know that parts came off the engine, but those parts may not have been in that section of the engine th

>> well, the ntsb hasn't issued its final report yet. the ntsb is investigating. so for this investigation, they will have just a wealth of good information and they will be issuing their recommendations when they complete that previous investigation. and they looked at the turbine fan planes, it then hit the nacell that richard was talking about and it caused that to come off. it was a chain reaction. they'll have a lot of data to work with. >> thank you. richard, stick around. we have other breaking news this afternoon. starbucks is saying it will close its more than 8,000 stores in the united states on the afternoon of may 29th, all of them closed, to educate employees about racial bias. this is in the wake of that arrest of those two african-american men waiting for a friend in a philadelphia starbucks when they were arrested for trespassing. so we saw that ceo, he apologized. starbucks said he would meet with those two men roinvolved. they weren't charged, they were let go but not until eight hours later and now they're closing all these stores. >> just as a

the ntsb is still open.y're so overwhelmed they haven't closed out the investigation and the faa did not take the appropriate amount of urgency to respond to tha and now we have what appears to be a repeat scenario. it's time to consider emergency inspections and grounding that engine to ensure the flying public is safe. there is an issue here and an open question as to whether there are other metal fatigue cracks in fan blades flying around as we speak. >> mary, it sounds like you're both sounding the alarm this morning about this. >> absolutely, and miles is right. it doesn't have to be a grounding of the fleet because the faa never do that, but this service bulletin was very specific. they knew exactly which fan blades you should inspect. you have to take them out and put them on ultra sonic testing. this needs to be a surgical grounding. get these engines -- because these two planes, the one in 2016 and the one yesterday are very close in time in tail numbers. they might have been very close in the assem
