i'm a pacifica resident. i've lived there for nearly 30 years and almost the entire time i've lived there, i've been involved in environmental projects as a member of the open space task force, the open space committee, and also as a councilmember. and in the process, we preserved more than 500 acres of open space through our efforts, political efforts in our community, our preservation efforts in our community. so, i just want to say that as a preface to my comments about sharp park golf course, in the entire time that i worked on these projects in our community, no one ever considered taking away the golf course. the golf course was always viewed as kind of an ideal situation where you had endangered species, habitat that had actually evolved over time by the creation of freshwater habitat there. and the issue of the work at laguna salada which really began i think almost six years ago was to remove some of the tooling around the edges so frogs could get to the edge more easily and prevent flooding because

it's located in pacifica but [speaker not understood] but is owned by san francisco. it includes 27 acres of wetlands. you can barely see it in the image above. that's the entire area of sharp park and the wetlands located to the west of [speaker not understood] in the blue area next to the coast. it also has a number of special status species including the california red legged frog and the san francisco garter snake. as don mentioned the fish and wildlife has provided us with a biological opinion and that includes 32 mitigation or cultivation measures. one of which is the up land habitat restoration. and to comply with the biological opinion, we need to complete that work by october 31st of this year with a short window during the summer months to do work. so we don't have an adverse impact on the special status species. the up land habitat restoration work includes three locations for a total of a half acre. you can refer to the diagram up here. two of those locations are the horse stable pond and one is near laguna salada. primarily it's to remove ice plant anacac

a lot of last night's lightning was reported in pacifica. where alex savage is with the light show up in the sky. good morning. >> good morning to you, dave. firefighters were on high alert with all of the lightning strikes around the bay area. people in the area and on the peninsula enjoyed what was a spectacular light show last night. let's show it to you here. here is the incredible video. this was taken by a ktvu photographer. lightning reported down in santa cruz county light rain as well. according to the national weather service, more than 11,000 lightning strikes were seen around the bay area since 8:00 last night. the majority of the strikes were out over the water. this has firefighters worried. red flag warning remains in effect across northern california with lightning and strong winds leading to high fire danger. they have staffed reserve engines and brought in extra firefighters just in case a large fire breaks out. yesterday we were at the cal fire air attack base at the sonoma airport where crews were ready to respond to ligh
