you can see peco trucks are parked there fire fighters cleared the scene but peco is trying to figure out exactly what happened. lets look at video from earlier this morning when this was a active scene. what happened was an underground electrical fire sparked involves a peco line here on east main street in norristown. fire fighters responded and they found all this smoke backed up in to three business as long that street and that elevated carbon monoxide levels to lethal levels. luckily because it happened around midnight nobody was inside of those buildings but fire fighters went door to door to check and see any other carbon machine oxide levels. it is supposed to be at zero in your home or building. they came across this apartment building that had high level of carbon monoxide so they evacuated six people while ventilate ago this building and it turns out it was a separate incident. that apartment building hade heater problem, that had been going on for some time that had been leaking this carbon machine oxide it didn't lead to levels but fire chief says licensing term, exposure

peco crews are trying to fix underground equipment now that sparked a fire and then a gas leak. that leak produced deadly levels of carbon monoxide. jesse gary along east main street in norristown. the fire department has cleared the scene, is that right? >> reporter: that's right. left a few minutes ago. and now a crew that specializes in working underneath the ground will try to cut into the sidewalk and make repairs. the norristown fire chief says the initial call was for a fire at the base of a street light. they determined the equipment was burning and producing lethal levels of carbon monoxide. the gas would have been a problem for people showing up for work this morning but also worried the building the building of gas inside could've led to an explosion. >> carbon monoxide, when it gets into the confined spaces and builds up the only way for it to relesionase is through a detonation. >> the buildings and lowered the concentration of the gas and lessened the chance of explosion. no chance right now. the chief did tell me, though, there was an explosion in this particular

you can see fire fighters have have packed up and left but peco is on the scene new trying to figure out what happened. apparently it started with one of their underground wires. let look at video that we have from earlier this morning when fire fighters first responded. now the first leak was discovered just outside an auto zone here on east main street. fire fighters were responding to a report of an electrical fire at a lamp post and when they a arrived they detect high levels of co coming from three businesses nearby. a apparently all of the smoke from that fire back up in to those businesses and the level of carbon machine oxide there was lethal. luckily nobody was inside because these are commercial buildings. it happened so late at night but then fire fighters started to go door to door and doing door knocks to check on carbon machine oxide levels in nearby buildings and then that is when they discovered a high level of co, in the apartment building nearby. just a block away so these two discoveries happening a block apart, two hours at part, six people living inside that apar
