police chief peter newsham spoke 15 minutes ago or so about this very violent weekend, the last weekend in july. he announced two arrests in two homicides from the weekend, one involving a teenager and the other a fatal stabbing. but we also asked him why d.c. is seeing such a dramatic drop this year in violent crime? it's down 26% over this time last year. the chief also addressing something that a number of people have raised as a potential factor here. the rainy, cool weather. take a listen. chief newsham: we have one of the best homicide units and the folks who work in that unit really roll up their sleeves. they are committed to finding the folks that are responsible. if weather is playing a factor, i hope we get a lot of rain for the remainder of the summer. stephen: the chief acknowledging that when it is hot out, crime does tend to spike. now he also mentioned some other factors. such as, improved opportunities for young people and mental health experts for those who are out on the street. coming up at 5:00, we'll talk about progress in yet another crime plaguing the city for th
