welcome to portland, my man. we are right outside of the team hotel and in just a moment the georgetown hoyas will zip up beside me and hop off the bus and begin their tourney journey in the great northwest. it's going to be fun, no doubt about that. interesting story, the photographer i'm working with here up here in portland, he went to eastern washington university. so he's giving me all of the straight scoop on these eastern washington eagles. of course, we don't know much about them on the east coast, but here's what i found out. this is a very good basketball team. they like to get up and down the court. they average about 80 points a game, third in the nation. they've got the nation's leading scorer in tyler henry and team like this we know a little undersized and yet they can get up and down the floor. they have given georgetown problems before. miami of ohio did it three years ago, vcu did it two years ago and now georgetown is back in portland hoping it doesn't happen again. we are right outside of the

gretchen miller kafori passed away two weeks ago in portland. she left us at age 72, far too soon only recently retired from her amazing career. it was my honor to have served with gretchen in the oregon legislature in the 1970's. in the 1980's and the portland security council in the 1990's. she fulfilled responsibilities in each office with a passion, a dedication to the underprivileged, a hard-headed realism, plain spoken, down to earth, warm and generous in spirit personally and professionally. she started her career as a peace corps volunteer in iran. she loved that country and its people. throughout her life, that experience informed her views of the middle east her knowledge and warmth and support by the iranian people for americans. gretchen offered a voice in our community for a more thoughtful approach to that country including at least attempting diplomatic efforts. it's too bad she couldn't have talked to some people in congress who were either too afraid distracted to try diplomacy. despite her well-earned reputation as a liberal fi
