but nobody really cared on the redskins.with the redskins top draft pick brian orakpo who finally was able to show up. he signed his contract early this morning. five-year deal worth $20 million. $12.1 million of guaranteed money. orakpo said he was sitting in a sushi restaurant eating dinner with his fiancee when he got the call and he was shocked they could get it done so fast. here he is. 13th overallic and no-show yesterday because he was trying to get some more money. he did that signing this morning. he was not really able to practice fully with the team because the finalizing details on the contract. he said the defensive coordinator joked with him because yesterday he was very vocal saying orakpo was missing valuable time. orakpo talked about what that conversation was like with his defensive coordinator today. >> he was like you need to be here. he was like -- i understand the problems -- the whole contract issue and stuff like that. but you know, he -- he and the rest of the coaches really want to get this train ro

that's what happened today at redskins park. the rains poured down so the second practice the redskins had today was canceled. like you said, the biggest news of the day was the signing of defensive lineman brian orakpo who signed a humongous five-year $20 million deal. a signing bonus of $12.1 million. let me take you back to the field. brian orakpo, 13th overall pick by the redskins was a no show yesterday because of the contract hold-out and signed this morning. wasn't able to really practice with the team because of the finalizing details of the contract. he said that when he showed up the defensive coordinator greg joked with him about being blat. orakpo says he hates missing workouts and couldn't concentrate until it was official. last night he was celebrating his birthday with his fiancee in texas when he found out it was a done deal. >> got the call. i was celebrating in a sushi joint in a sushi restaurant, my favorite foods. i got the call. couldn't even enjoy it no more. already -- back in texas, yeah. downtown. seen j

day one of 41 days of redskins training camp. i can tell you the guys are on the field behind me and are almost wrapped up with the two-a-days. the only playe that's not out here today at the redskins draft pick, brian orakpo. everybody else is here and accounted for. players have been saying h much better it feels this second time in this system. even jason campbell said, man, what a difference a year makes. let me take you back out to the field. jason, when he showed up today, he had signs to look outor. there were people that had a sign about d.c. wants michael vick. jason said he is taking it in stride and letting it roll off his back like water. he is focused on being a better player on the field and much more vocal leader. he said he is focusing on the positive. in fact, zorn said he's happy not to have to keep telling him to speed up the tempo. campbell had good rhythm. >> i started laughing to myself. i was like -- you know, everyone has a certain opinion about things. it is all about your mindset and stay position and co

the redskins now are able to get inside and cool down. they left the field about a half an hour ago, jim. players felt like they had a good first day of practice. it was the first day out of 34 days of training camp. it was interesting, though. defensive coordinator greg black spoke out about disappointment that first round draft pick orakpo was not here today. he hasn't signed his contract. he said he's missing valuable time out here. hopefully he joins this team, too. let me take you back to the field and show what you these guys did today. they showed up this morning as did all the fans. bright and early here to watch the redski and their second season under jim zorn. the players said that it was a little bit more laid back this year as communication is stronger and there is a lot more familiarity from the start. still for some players, they say that it was just back to the drawing board. >> it was hot. it was a little bit tough. just the first day. i never really have a great first day. overall, things went well. >> i feel like the sc

everybody was accounted for except redskins first round draft pick. a training camp holdout. yet to sign his contract. for those on the field, sure a nice feeling. they say the second time around. the coach jim zorn said he was pleased not having to keep telling his players to pick up the tempo. everyone got it. jason campbell, obviously had a simultaneous was off-season. still the guy. campbell is going to let it all hang out with a positive approach. and always does the talking. players say so far they like the tone of camp. >> i just feel like the schedule is great. and a lot of down time. and staying at the home. with some of the young guys. and keep some veteran leadership over there. it's fun. it's fun. me and fred was talking. this camp is feeling a lot more laid back. a lot more fun. and i felt very comfortable that everybody kind of knew where we were going. we started working on initially more of the details of a play inead of just the basic assignment of a play. that's what i think we came in here with last year. boy, i am sure glad we didn't make a mistake on that

redskins?king about redskins hall of famer bobby mitchell and he's doing some great things with his cause. and when the redskins halfback bobby mitchell was traded to washington from cleveland, in 1962, for heisman trophy winner, ernie davis, changed his life in more ways than one. he went on to have a hall of fame career. last 19 years, mitchell's mission is raising awareness in the fight against leukemia through his charity golf tournament. bobby mitchell played 11 seasons in the nfl and spent the last seven with the redskins. mitchell was a four-time pro bowler who played both halfback and receiver and he was inducted into the hall of fame in 1983. this afternoon, hi the privilege to sit down with bobby and we talked about why he's so involved in the fight against leukemia. >> the guys, the fact they keep coming here, as opposed to somewhere else, we will have -- hall of famers, from all over the country. and they love to comend give their time and efforts on be half of the kids. leukemia so
