next on "full measure," we'll hear from robert f. kennedy jr. and robert de niro together in washington to push for new discussions about vaccine sharyl: president trump breathed new life into an old controversy when he recently suggested he might form an independent scientific vaccine safety. he discussed that possibility with robert f. kennedy, jr. kennedy was in washington d.c. this week pressing forward with his own vaccine safety efforts and was joined by other advocates including academy award winner robert deniro. environmental lawyer robert f. kennedy jr. briefed members of congress on capitol hill, pushing them to investigate an untouchable subject -- the safety of vaccines. kennedy is going against the grain of the government and medical establishment, which have long insisted there's no scientific reason to be concerned about vaccine side effects. earlier, he held a news conference alongside a diverse group of vaccine safety advocates. he says the trump transition team contacted him with the idea of forming an independent scientific co

i mean, i understand that you hear that sort of criticism all the time, and it started when robert kennedythe brother of presidentjohn f kennedy, was made the attorney—general. but look, sessions is very much likejohn ashcroft, who was the attorney—general in the george w bush administration, who was considered by many to be a puppet. and, when push came to shove, he stood up to the administration and refused to sign a particular warrant. i would expect that sessions would do the same thing. indeed, we've had something of an object lesson today, whenjudge gorsuch, the nominee for the supreme court, suggested that the president's comments about the court were disheartening and a bit out of line. i think you find people grow into these offices, and understand the mantle of authority that they have, and that they're representing the people.

obey the law, that they could take it into their own hands, whether it was an assassination of a robert kennedy or john kennedy or a martin luther king or whatever. they thought that they somehow got this twisted notion that they could take law into their own hands, but there was a problem from the other side, which is that the police felt they could take the law into their own hands and the whole department sometimes is in chicago and birmingham and kent state and stonewall. they were going on a rampage. and what you had and what was so damaging is that law was hit from both sides, both from those whose obligation it was to enforce it and those whose obligation it was to obey it. and my problem is i see it the same convergence of forces happening today being that there's disrespect from both sides, and in my book, i talk about a figure that i revered who was a dean of the law school where i went, and he worshipped the law and he tried to have us worship the law and he had it -- to borrow an image he put it in an acropolis on the hill, and it was something we were taught in law school to revere
