now we have roger stone in contact with this persona. there is nothing particularly incriminating that laid out in this indictment that stone did or said, but certainly refutes his denial that he engaged with the russian. and we know, a couple of months ago, another story broke saying he remembered a contact with a russian down in florida. if there were members of the trump campaign or trump advisors who were participating with the russians or coordinating, roger stone seemed like a likely person. >> the next thing on the world stage, the next issue is that president trump is set to meet with vladimir putin. some calls from democrats, even john mccain calling for president trump not to go forward with this meeting. with this indictment now detailing, this is what russia was doing in the united states in the election in 2016, what message too you want president trump to bring to vladimir putin. what message do you expect to bring. >> president trump should not bow at the foot of vladimir putin and for him to do so is a disgrace to the ame

all eyes are on roger stone. as far as we know and unless things changed in the last few days, roger stone has not been contacted by the special counsel which, you know, all of the criminal defense attorneys and prosecutors i talked to said it's not a good sign for him this late into the investigation, given how much scrutiny there is of his actions. the other thing about roger stone, stone is a guy who literally has the tattoo of a criminal president on his back -- richard nixon. he has delighted for the duration of his career of working the dark side of politics. he's bragged about lying. bragged about denial. he bragged about dirty tricks and, you know, rat effing, to use a turn. it's not crazy this self-avowed devotee of the last president chased from office for being a criminal and heading up a criminal conspiracy would engage in things that were at the very best the gray area of the law. there's probably more shoes to drop as regards roger stone. >> we should say stone has denied any guilt associated with c

and now signs tonight that he's still investigating trump ally roger stone. our crime and justice reporter is here for us. >> yeah, today in court while buttina was there, in a separate court proceeding, five prosecutors from robert mueller's team spent some 90 minutes inside a closed courtroom, it was a secret proceeding, with lawyers who are representing a close associate with roger stone, a man by the name of andrew miller, who was doing work for roger stone during the 2016 election, was around during the rnc. and what we know is that the special counsel has been trying to get information from this individual, a grand jury subpoena, he was given a grand jury subpoena, and he's trying to fight what special counsel wants. what's most significant in all of this is that we have had two major indictments come out of the special counsel's office, including those last month of the russian agents, the special counsel is still working to figure out exactly what roger stone's role is in all of this. roger said he had met with guccifer 2.0. it's clear to us based on

the second piece that sticks out is roger stone. in our story in february, we talked about two witnesses who said that they were being asked a lot of questions about roger stone, not just roger stone in terms of his contacts with wikileaks, whether he met with julian assange and questions like that but about his -- the nature of his relationship with then-candidate trump, how close were they, under what circumstances did he leave the trump campaign, how often did they still talk? there was this what looked to be some sort of effort to either try to connect, make some kind of connection or probe, whether there was some kind of connection these two things. i think that now, looking at there indictment, the question that hangs over this is whether there was, "a," something to the july 27th comments that candidate trump made and "b" if there's something more to roger stone's role because we now know in the indictment that he is believed to be the unnamed person with contacts with senior members of the trump campaign also in contact with
