in the united states, a man has been detained for questioning in san diego after a shooting incident at a synagogue. the san diego sheriffce were called to the chabad of poway synagogue just before 11:30am local time. sheriff gore has tweeted that there are injuries but adds that the situation is developing. details are still coming in. the united nations says some villages hit by cyclone kenneth in northern mozambique have been entirely wiped out. after conducting an aerial assessment of the area, a senior officialfrom the un humanitarian agency described the level of destruction as heartbreaking and said many people would need assistance in the coming days. we are on the ground in pemba. we have come back from an aerial assessment where we have seen the villages worst hit by the eye of cyclone kenneth. these villages have been wiped out, they look like they have been run over by a bulldozer. the people are asking for shelter, then they need water and purification and food. we will work closely with the government, we are supporting their coordination to this response to mobilise the supplies needed to get these people

now, investigators from the san diego sheriff's department as well as the federal authority, the fbi and atf are on scene. one of the things they're going to be looking at in addition to processing the scene, the crime scene, but also at the house that was tied to the gunman will be the social media profile to try to get some background on what he was posting. is there a time line, but they're going on beyond that. they're going to talk to people who knew him, the kind of concentric circle that starts with the family and friends and what happened. a lot of times you have some kind of a trigger, even if people are posting things on social media in the direction that this investigation appears to be going towards, this whole idea of a hate crime. they're looking at the writing, but it's a little early, even with all this to ascribe motive. that's what law enforcement sources say they're going at this point. >> word on a potential open letter that he left. we heard some of the folks this hour reflect on that and what it might mean about motive. any word on that, andrew? >> no. i think s
