we begin with some breaking news this morning in san leandro. a man was shot outside a walmart store. gil diaz is in san leandro where the store just reopened. >> reporter: good morning. just reopened probably about a half hour ago. people are being let in but this portion of the parking lot is closed. investigators still hunting for clues in the case. it happened at 1:50 a.m. here's video of the scene from above taken by chopper 5. it's a robbery gone wrong according to police. the victim and his group, whether family or friends, coming out of walmart with a cartful of goods going back to the car when a group tried to rob them. the family, friends and family, tried to fight off the robber and one person was shot. that person is in stable condition. we don't have his name or age. the group with the victim detained one of the robbers. they don't know whether that person in custody is the shooter. this happened on black friday. a crazy day for shoppers. here's what police say you should do if this happens to you. >> give it to them and save your l

>> reporter: good morning, pam, from san leandro.ehind me, there's just a couple of police officers here. there is a lab technician's car here, or van, here, it looks like they are looking to wrap up the investigation. this all happened at 1:15 this morning. three or four males were coming out of a store -- out of the store and when they got to the car, the red volvo, they kind of hung out at the car. while they were doing that, another car pulled out. blocked their car in, at least two men got out of that car and demanded those men hand over the merchandise. they did not. in fact, they fought with the suspects. one of the men pulled a gun and shot one of the victims. that man and at least one other person ran after the suspects who tried to run away and tackled him. a witness we talked to said that the shooter got into a red car and that car took off. >> there is a car -- we're looking at the car right now, we can't identify clearly what type of car it is. we believe the detective is still looking at the video to determine what type

. >> here at the bay fair mall in san leandro last week, a boy carjacked a victim at gunpoint. the boy looked young. he was just 13 years old. at first, the victim thought it was a joke. >> based on the age of the person on the other end of the gun, the suspect, and asked him, is this a joke? and the first suspect said it wasn't. >> the carjacking spree started here. earlier that day on november 12. at the corner of marina boulevard and aurora drive. police say the teens terrified victims with this, a bb gun replica of a bareta pistol. over the next five days, they carjacked four people at various locations, including the mall and two bart stations. police say the teens took turns with the bb gun and each got a chance to carjack someone. two victims told san leandro police the kids were fairly calm. >> neither of them faced any profanity. pointed a gun at them and demanded the keys. >> just a matter of fact. >> a combination of in a minute , tips and police work led to the arrests of four teenagers. two are 14 and the other two are just 13 years old. >> i was pretty shocked. >>

we get the breaking news from gil diaz on the scene now in san leandro. gil, good morning. >> reporter: hi, guys. good morning. yeah, it happened in the parking lot outside the walmart an as the morning progresses, there are more investigators arriving at the scene. it happened around 1507 this morning. there is a lot of yellow tape in this parking lot. it's quite a distance away from the main entrance probably 400 to 500 feet but that shooting took place beyond this stop sign in this parking lot. you might see some stuff on the ground, some clothes strewn. those we're told are the victim's belongings. police say this was basically a robbery gone bad. according to officers, the victim was with his family or friends going to his car with a cartful of goods from walmart when robbers tried to get their goods. now, the victim's group tried to fight off the robbers and unfortunately, that's when gunshots got fired. by the time police arrived at the scene, they were patrolling the area for, you know, all night, because it is black friday. when it got to this ar

ktvu kraig debro is in san leandro. >> reporter: we talked to the police as a matter of fact. they do have somebody in custody. the victim is an adult male in his 20s. he's in stable condition. you can see the scene in the parking lot. but what it looks to be a driveway of the walmart here. overnight necessary is black friday they had a lot of sales. i talked to a security guard here. they told us there were no items that went on sale at 10:00. the shooting happened at 1:50. there were barricades out here. what a witness told is she heard arguing. the police confirmed this arguing between two men. she said was two groups of people that were arguing and heard a gunshot. she saw several people jump into the car and leave. but police tell me that some of the victims some of the people in the victims party held one of the people that was with the suspect with the shooter. police actually don't know if they have the shooter or if this was somebody in that party. we will talk to police again in a couple of minutes from now to get more details and also have a witness that i will spea
