so far across the richmond bridge and heading into san rafael. we noticed those winds picking up across the bridge. those southerly winds, probably around maybe 20 to 25 miles an hour. and right now we are in a pretty good downpour. we were tracking the rain on the radar in-house in this specialized car here, and we're definitely going into the rain into portions of marin county. so we made the trip from oakland, picked up a little bit of some rainfall in berkeley and richmond, and then definitely the rainfall showing up on the richmond-san rafael bridge. and right now we are in the middle of it. so just the headline. while some areas are picking up little to no rain, if you are heading in the in a certain direction, you will definitely encounter more of this a heavier downpour that could make driving a bit more of a challenge. and that will be the case over the next few days as we track these downpours, especially up in the north bay. and i know chief meteorologist bill martin is standing by tracking the rain. and bill, we actually have a radar,

i'm live in san rafael. tim johns abc seven news. >> all right, tim, thank you. another rough day at san francisco international airport, where hundreds of flights were delayed or canceled. of course, because of the weather, the wind remains a problem, particularly for inbound flights. flightaware puts the average delay for arrivals around three hours, and a look at the dangerous conditions on the roads today. >> there were two accidents in orinda around 11 a.m. on highway 24, both within minutes of each other near wilder road. one was a single car crash requiring a tow on the eastbound side. in the second crash, a pickup truck rolled several times with two other vehicles involved on the westbound side. the three occupants of the truck were taken to the hospital. they are expected to recover. members or numbers from the chp today showing an increase in bay area traffic incidents already last wednesday into thursday afternoon, there were roughly 2800 reports compared to this wednesday into this afternoon, there were 3200 reports on the roads. that's a rise of 14.7

i mean the highs 68 in san rafael. that's. yeah, that's 68.you, the san rafael number is anomalous. it's been coming in. the weather service has changed their sensor. but you look around, right? this is san rafael. really that much warmer than vallejo? it sits around water. so that number is traditionally been in. on a day like today. it would have been like 63 or 64, but they changed. i think the positions of the sensors. so i've just noticed, you may have noticed that i've gotten a few letters about san rafael registering a little bit high. okay. so here's the low that's coming in. we've got one out there. now. this is the main low. and within this low are lots of little impulse pulses if you will. and those pulses are enough to bring rain showers, scattered showers as we go through tomorrow night into thursday. thursday night a little bit into friday morning as well. so a little patchy fog this morning at the coast will be a little bit of fog perhaps tomorrow morning as that front gets closer. there it is. most of the focus of this will be

it's not orographically favored neighborhood, typically san rafael, three inches of rain. and then look at san francisco, a quarter of an inch san jose. trace amounts that all changes these numbers. the south numbers all change as we go into friday. tomorrow is going to be an interesting day. it's going to hang out in the north. and that's why the flood watch is still in effect. when i say it's going to hang out in the north, the rain is going to hang out in the north. that's why there's a flood watch in effect till friday. and we'll talk more about that forecast. but right now here's where the rain is and where it's not. and i mentioned that area of heavier rain moving into the east bay. now this is a little further south than we've seen the yellows all day. so we're seeing that strong line or stronger line of showers kind of see you'll watch it drop down here in just a minute. you'll see it kind of move kind of further south right there and there. so that's you know, that's an interesting little note. but this low is going to lift out. this rain is going to start going up

and that forecast taking over to san rafael, where it's 58 degrees, mostly clear skies. also, the humidity levels up and we're not seeing signs of that offshore wind yet around san rafael or in walnut creek, 56 degrees wind sheltered valleys tomorrow morning likely wake up to some chilly low 40s. and san jose right now 59 degrees, so mostly 40s and 50s outside. the strong winds have yet to arrive for the higher hills up towards, let's say, the mountain tops mount saint helena, atlas peak and mount diablo as we move forward into tomorrow morning. that's where the wind speeds will start to pick up, not so much across the lower elevations or bay side locations, but progressively as we go through the day, we'll begin to see the offshore wind pattern develop. so by mid-afternoon, highs in the low 70s around san jose, upper 60s near san francisco, mid 70s again around santa rosa and san rafael, and then as we move forward from tomorrow evening and tomorrow night, that's when the peak wind gusts we think will start to arrive. now, the red flag warning does start at 11 a.m, but

reporting in san rafael. i'm james torres, ktvu, fox two news. >> big storms often draw more people to the beach so they can watch mother nature in action, which is prompting a warning to be on the lookout for large waves. the national weather service issued a high surf advisory, said waves could get up to 22ft high along the san francisco coast, down to southern monterey bay and the big sur coastline. the advisory is in place now until friday morning. experts say, to stay out of the water and never turn your back on the ocean to the east bay. here, as crews across the east bay have been working to make sure they're ready for this storm, a big tree that partially came down during storms last year was only just removed in san leandro, not far from bancroft middle school. we watched as a helicopter hoisted parts of that tree out of san leandro creek, near hough avenue, and 580. the tree removal is part of a longer project to remove dead trees and vegetation. several major tahoe ski resorts have moved up their o

san rafael, you're 5 1/2 inches and should not be left out. they've got twice that much in santa rosa. the reporting station at the airport there, this shatters the all time record. we're waiting for the official numbers for downtown santa rosa and there's a high degree of confidence that record will be shattered as well with. venato since yesterday morning 16 inches of rain there. san francisco's gotten a quarter inch. let's go back to the monitor because with all the rain here there is a flood warning. perhaps one of the more important things to discuss, the flood warning going through central sonoma county and this applies in two ways really. you'll have issues on the roads, no doubt have already encountered that, low lying intersections, clogged gutters, but this also applies to the smaller streams and creeks, the rural streams and creeks that can rise quickly. there is now a small likelihood that the russian river gets up to like minor flood stage, monitor stage, stuff that does not make headlines, but that's an important point because th

still happening right now as you're heading out in san rafael, you can see those wet roads on 101. looking elsewhere, we have yet to see much in the way of rain for palo alto or walnut creek, as well as san jose. as we've seen, this storm system parked on san francisco and areas northward. but it's also slightly warmer. taking a look back at how much rain we've had in the north bay, we've had already 6.25in of rainfall for santa rosa. i mean, that is just off the charts there in napa, we've had over 2.5in of rainfall in fairfield almost an inch. and in oakland, close to a half inch of rainfall, three quarters in san francisco and in half moon bay, about 3/10 of an inch of rainfall. livermore. you had a couple of sprinkles yesterday and nothing measured in san jose. so looking at the position of this system as it kind of slices the bay area in half of the haves and have nots, as we continue to see the heavy rain, it's moving from the peninsula into parts of the east bay, as well as the north bay and then some very light spotty showers farther to the south. so of course, with all of t
