this is scott walker's third gubernatorial race in the last four years. he ran against tom barrett in 2010 to win the governor's seat the first time. then walker defeated barrett again during the 2012 recall election. this time, walker is running against a different democratic candidate, her name is mary burke and right now they're running neck and neck. the latest marquette university poll actually puts burke a point ahead of walker, wile within the margin of error. in may, the same poll had walker leading. it's a toss-up, folks. burke and walker are virtually tied when it comes to the independent vote. burke has 44% to walker's 45. burke's first elected office was to the madison school board in 2012. and prior to that, she was appointed to wisconsin's commerce secretary. part of the reason burke got to commerce secretary job was because she helped run her father's business, the trek bicycle corporation. the bike company generates about $800 million in sales every year. burke was the company's strategic planner and then she ran european operations. walker

john, scott walker being called out by that bastion of liberal thinking "wall street journal", democratshow free markets work and cynically exploit workers insecurities, mr. walker is better than that. not the best idea to make an ad criticizing a home grown wisconsin company like trek bicycle? >> i don't think so. it's a very interesting circumstance. one of the ugliest thing in politics is a politician who thought he was in good shape and sutdly finds polls are running bad for him. this attack on mary burke has a real air of desperation to it and it becomes problematic not because of the attack on burke, candidates attack their opponents, but the advertising has been so harshly focused on trek, which really is a beloved company in wisconsin, a company that employs 1,000 wisconsinites and a company that decided to push back. it isn't mary burke herself pushing back. trek itself bought a full page ad in the milwaukee sentinel saying this is really unfair. >> trek has 1,000 employees in wisconsin and over $50 million payroll in wisconsin. and went down a whole list of commitments to chari

scott walker's attacks are hypocritical. ob creation during the 2010 campaign to outsourcing jobs from his own state. reports last week showed at least two companies that received money from walker's wisconsin economic development corporation shipped american job ares to foreign countries and also contributed to walker's campaign. ruth conif is editor in chief of "the progressive" magazine. she joins me. at this hour the milwaukee journal sentinel is reporting the wisconsin republican party has filed a complaint against trek bicycle. they claim that trek was dishing out corporate money in helping out burke in response to this television ad that's been put out by the walker campaign. it's also pointed out that walker, more than half his money has come from outside wisconsin. two-thirds of mary burke's money has come from within the state. donald trump and sheldon adelson are also contributing to walk. -- walker. once again, wisconsin has it all, ruth. how will this play out in the badger state? >> well, it's a great story, ed.
