they're from nearby selby and over the years they say the area's changed. industry's flattened.ll, homely market town. and the heart's been ripped out of it, really. actually, gettingjobs, like my granda said, it is very limited. i've gone to uni in leeds, i have a part time job in selby and i get paid a decent wage but affording to fill my car and things like that, it's just getting to the point where it's not cost effective. as the political parties battle it out for votes in the upcoming by—election, the cost of living could be key. do you know what colours you want for hand and a foot. _ in tadcaster, danielle ceramics and art studio had a visit from the shadow chancellor. labour have been talking a lot about the impact of rising prices. her business has only been open a year, but with three sons, including a four—week—old baby, she's struggling. the cost of living crisis. it's been incredibly difficult. so my electric rates l went from about 100, £120 a month to nearly 500. it's hit my customers really hard as well, l so they're not able to come in. and it's been an extreme

so, a two—horse race in selby and ainsty, but the lib dems sense new openings.e're out there fighting for every single vote. you know, lots of people often say, you know, how do we break through? we've clearly broken through in north shropshire. you know, we came from third to first and actually in north yorkshire, the lib dems are the official opposition on north yorkshire council. so, you know, we've got a presence in north yorkshire. on the doors, when i've been talking to people, people who traditionally have voted conservative are voting lib dem. and very interestingly i've had two conservative councillors tell me that they will be voting lib dems. the greens see a link between the wider economic challenge and the need to tackle climate change. i think having a real view. on the cost of living crisis, particularly looking _ at the possibility of everybody having access to renewable energy to heat their homes, _ homes that are well insulated. i would want to see retrofitting - council properties and any new build built to a very high eco standard. that's som

there were a big question marks over exactly what was going to happen in selby, north yorkshire seat,as one that is definitely being taken as a good site in terms of looking at the wider general election hopes for labour. that said, in uxbridge, because it was a much smaller majority to overturn, people are... labour mps are very unhappy, one person said they felt the campaign has been very timid and they are concerned that there is not enough leadership and strong direction being shown and that this is the reason why they didn't take uxbridge. 0n the other side, on the conservative side, selby, a huge loss. and again, big question there about the leadership of rishi sunak and whether he can really do enough at this stage to turn things around. what does this mean directly now for the election coming up? in crude, simple terms, is there anything we can learn or read from it? saying, right, this means rishi sunak has a bigger chance than we realised or keir starmer is going to be in number ten?— keir starmer is going to be in number ten? well, i don't think either of those _ number ten

it matters that we care about selby and ainsty.oters are most concerned about immigration. however, those who've made the switch to labour are much more concerned about the cost of living, as is the rest of the labour vote. so what we're seeing, i think, is those conditions that you're you know, lots of people often say, you know, how do we break through?
