at sfo. and kpix 5's mark kelly is live at the airport now where the deadly accident happened and mark what do we expect to learn from the report today? >> reporter: well, frank a lot of serious questions on the table this morning. the ntsb is meeting at 9:00 a.m. in washington, d.c.. they are planning on reviewing their own agency's report. and some of those big questions include who is to blame, what went wrong, and how can we prevent this from happening in the future? so on last july 6th, five miles out from sfo, the boeing 777 slowed way too much on approach. everyone agrees on that. so much there wasn't time to perform a goaround for a second landing attempt. well, asana and boeing have been -- asiana and boeing have been pointing fingers for a year now at one another. asiana admits it was the flight crew's failure to monitor proper air speed but they also blame boeing for complex automated controls installed in the plane. well one of the three pilots admitted to investigators that visua

today in washington, we learned once and for all who's to blame for the asiana crash at sfo last july. good afternoon, i'm michelle griego. the ntsb is putting the blame of the crash on 214 squarely on the pilot. among the mistakes relying too heavily on automated systems as they approached sfo. >> reporter: when the 217 was descending, the pilot mismanagement and confusion caused the crash. this ntsb animation details the final moments of 2013 before asiana flight 214 crashed into the seawall. it was below speed and rapidly dropping. the ntsb concluded there were confusion over whether the main controls was maintaining speed. ntsb also cast blame on asiana airlines and its lack of proper pilot training with complex automated controls. >> i don't think this is an issue of competency. what i think it is a case of is the pilot flying the airplane expected that the airplane would do something for him that it wasn't designed to do. >> here at home, ntsb local law enforcement and the public watched the ntsb meeting opt screen. they heard that landing flight 214 was flying too low and too s

the asiana air crash at sfo. and what comes out of the discussion could lead to serious changes. stephanie truong is live at sfo. what has the panel uncovered so far? >> reporter: good morning. so far the panel has not gotten into the meat of it yet. sfo general is the only hospital to serve the northern city areas and this is the only place that an event like asiana can come to for life-threatening issues and surgeries. people from ucsf are also here. so far there's only been an introduction of the panelist and a short video of what happened on that day in july 2013. they were talking about how an additional 313 nonasiana people were in that emergency room. doctors recounted getting paged at 11:30 that morning, mass casualty incident and they got real nervous. 25 ambulances were coming in back to back. surgeons dealing with every imaginable trauma available and they had to sit down and have a briefing and for the first time in hospital history they had a multidisciplinary conference that led to this discussion. one of the panelist is the chief nursing and starting in 2005 ahead
