stephanie woods, wmur news 9. tom: tonight owen labrie is fighting his conviction, just one day after his name was added to the sex offender rent industry in his home state of vermont. one of the punishments that he is appealing. shelley walcott is live in the studio now with the paperwork filed. shelley: attorneys for owen labrie have also taken issue with his felony conviction saying it's for a charge that should have never been applied to him in the first place. labrie's name was added to the sex offender registry in his home state of vermont yesterday. it's for his conviction on a felony count of using a computer to lure a 15-year-old classmate. labrie was found guilty of misdemeanor sexual assault after the 2014 encounter with the girl at st. paul's school in concord. in the notice of appeal filed wednesday, labrie's lawyers say the trial judge should not have allowed that felony count. insisting the computer charge was meant to ai ply to adults preying on children. they also cited issues with the admissibili

i' m stephanie woods. a police officer spotted that driver near main and hampstead . by the time she caught up, he found a smashed car and the driver thrown to the ground. wmur' s mike cronin talked to investigators in salem. mike: police say the man was driving more than 90 miles an hour in an area where there are several homes could salem police say the driver sped past an officer on main street near hampstead road. the officer tried to pull the car over to quickly lost sight of it. the driver of the 1997 lexus went off the road, hit several trees, and crashed just down the road. he was thrown out of the car and found unconscious on the ground. he was taken in the hospital, then flown to a boston hospital with life-threatening injuries. police had to close that stretch of the road for several hours. several residents, multifamily residence within the area. this vehicle could easily end up in someone' s bedroom, living room, kitchen. we' re pretty lucky at this point that it was only the driver that was affected by this. mike: the driver' s name has not been released

i' m stephanie woods. adam: and i' m adam sexton. crowds in paris ran for safety today when they mistook fireworks for gunshots. abc' s marci gonzalez is back at the scene in paris after being evacuated. marci: good evening. the all-clear given after some very tense moments here in paris outside of this theater where nearly 90 people were killed. we were getting ready to do a live shot earlier today when police came up urgently telling us we needed to leave the area. they didn' t give us an explanation, they just told us we had to go now. and it was scenes like this that we saw in other parts of paris as well. pure panic, either fireworks or other false alarms sent people running into the streets. at a memorial a few blocks away from here, people who were paying respects to victims of friday' s attacks ended up running over makeshift memorial s that have been set up over the past couple of days. police finally revealed there was no shooting, there was no threat, but the reaction that we saw here in paris is just evidence of how on ed

i' m stephanie woods. adam: i' m adam sexton. firefighters say getting the 3 out of the vehicle was not an easy task. the crash happened in the southbound lanes just north of the massachusetts state line. wmur' s kristen carosa tells us what made this rescue so difficult. kristen: this is where the car came crashing in. it landed in the woods on top of trees, making it very hard to pull the people out of the car to safety. firefighters are calling this one of the most extensive extrications they have ever had to perform. being on an incline, can' t stand up. 28 years as a firefighter, this was the hardest extrication i have ever had to participate in. kristen: a car crashed on 93 south around 5:30 this morning in salem. people living nearby made the 911 call. >> there was a car that had punched through the guard rail that traveled approximately another 150 feet. it was suspended in the air by trees. it was upside down with three vehicle. kristen: firefighters used the jaws of life to get them out, a process that took more than an

stephanie woods, wmur news 9. tom: how to breaking news right now, the attorney general's office has just released new pictures of the man they believe is involved in a deadly shooting on manchester's west side. jennifer: michael pittman was november 3. investigators are asking for the public's help tonight in identifying and locating this man, who was captured there by surveillance cameras at a nearby shooting happened. if you have any information, call manchester's crime line. tom: the man charged with killing his parents and then setting their house on fire will plead guilty next month. in a plea deal matthew dion is expected to admit guilt to two counts of second degree murder, and a single count of arson. connected to the deaths of his parents robert and constance dion back in march of 2014. dion's spent the next year on the run and was arrested in florida. the family was consulted on the plea deal. >> our biggest concern was making sure that he doesn't get out of prison, that he'll spend the rest of his life

good evening, i' m stephanie woods. meteorologist hayley lapoint tells us about a warm up for the first week of november. hayley: it will be very unusual. . we usually have temperatures in the 50' s. we will easily be 10 degrees above that. some of us may touch 70 degrees by the end of this workweek. i want to tell you about showers passing through the state, especially in the lakes region. there were a quick couple of downpours that loop -- moved through laconia. now we have raindrops from rochester down to dover. may be in the northern reaches of portsmouth. these should dwindle in the next couple of hours. overnight, most of us clear. temperatures in the 50' s now. we will fall into the 40' s overnight. tomorrow, 50' s up north, mostly sunny and 60' s in the southern part of the state. i will have a full breakdown of the forecast in a couple of minutes. stephanie: an early morning burglary at a dunbarton home. police say that at about 4:20 this morning someone trespassed on a property on clinton street and took sever

i'm stephanie woods. the dog will need several months of care and rehab. mike has the story. mike: hope was found abandoned and starving near these railroad tracks. >> good girl. mike: hope is weak. she weighs 27 pounds about half of what she should weigh. this is the only -- this is the second week that she's been drinking water. she's under the care of kathy sullivan the owner of lost my way animal shelter. hope was found in the middle of the night last week by someone walking their dog on the >> the vet said probably another hour she would have been gone. mike: not much is known about her past. sullivan estimates she's between 1:00 and 4 years old. she says she's had puppies. >> this doesn't happen overnight. mike: police are aware of the situation but say it's unclear how the dog ended up on the railroad tracks. >> her pads do not show a dog on the run. her toenails are not broken. that's the worst i've seen that was still alive. people from clairmont are pitching in to help. the human society is donating supplies. >> she's going to need things like massage therapy and th

further up 93, wmur's stephanie woods is joining us live from the hooksett tolls tonight. hi, stephanie. reporter: hi, jean. as you said there are a lot of people on the roads. a lot of people right now are just getting off of work and are eager to get their thanksgiving holiday started. as you can see behind us on 93 in hooksett there are a lot of cars on either side of the highway, it's still moving. but it's only going to get worse as the night goes on. a triple a travel estimates that nearly 47 million people across the country will be traveling 50 miles or more this weekend. and 42 million will be on the roads. that's 300,000 more travelers than the u.s. had last year. here at the hooksett tolls rest stop on 93 north, many people are headed to the white mountains, north country and vermont to spend thanksgiving with family. we just spoke to bill boynton of new hampshire d.o.t. and he says one of the reasons he thinks a lot more people are on the roads this year is because gas prices are so low. it's an average of 2.07 across the state, so a lot of people taking advanta

stephanie woods just spoke to investigators and is joining us live from farmington tonight. reporter: jean, after a months-long drug investigation, farmington police say they searched two houses and found two heroin dens. police executed search warrants at two different houses along with the help of three different police departments. at 538 main street, apartment 4 and 11 bunker street in farmington around 6:00 last night. they say when they arrived at the main street apartment, no one was home, but they did find paraphernalia with what they believed to be heroin residue. when they arrived at the house on bunker street, they say they found six people inside, four of which are now facing drug charges. 41, then 28-year-old kaitlin brooks, 21-year-old robert stanley and 23-year-old dylan patch. officers say when they arrived at the bunker street house, three of those people were inside the bathroom, using heroin, and trying to hide it from police, flushing it down the toilet. now we spoke to investigators today who say that heroin is a big problem in the city. but this case is
