tara moriarty is joining us now from our newsroom with that story. tara. >> reporter: 17-year-old francisco martinez left the hospital after another check up on his injuries. the high school sophomore told ktvu news he protested when a security guard tried to clear the hall and wheel him to class. this is a look at the video showing the guard in the white shirt pushing martinez down a school hallway. you can see the guards right hand smack the teenager and then he hits the special needs student again. martinez is thrown out of his wheelchair and on to the floor. what the tape doesn't show is the guard beating him in the elevator and cursing at him when martinez says he's in pain. >> he says i don't give a -- he said i hope you don't walk for another 12 weeks. >> reporter: he admits to spitting at the guard. the school district says that it fired security guard marcel mitchell immediately after the incident. the spokesman says mitchell had been hired as a substitute security officer in november and passed a background check. the guard is due in court n

ktvu's tara moriarty was the first reporter on the scene at 4:30. she's following a new development now in this investigation. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. the flatbed tow truck is about to haul the car away from the scene as you can see behind me. we know that the suspect is still alive. he's in surgery. he's being tested for drugs and alcohol. now, this was a pretty dramatic crash. there's debris strewn all over. the suspect hit a guardrail, then two trees and flipped at least one and a half times. he was in pretty bad shape when they pulled him from the car. this all started last night in concord around 10:30 when a police sergeant was patrolling monument boulevard near highway 680. he noticed a person driving recklessly without their lights on. when he tried to pull the driver over, the driver sped off and the chase was on reaching speeds up to 100 miles an hour. police are identifying the suspect as 19-year-old michael holden of concord. he lost control in danville. holden suffered major injuries. he was transported to john mui

[ music ] mourners helped comfort george chen's heartbroken parents. george chen graduated just two years ago. he was one of elliot rodger's first victims in the deadly shootings and stabbings near the uc santa barbara campus last friday night. >> i don't want to stand here. if my son can come back i don't need to stand here. i hope i am the last to stand here. >> george chen's parents say this time of

tara moriarty is on the scene right now with details about what happened. tara. >> reporter: you can see the fence here. it's caved in where a car crashed. this building belongs to the california national guard. and out in front we have noticed some candles right here. a little memorial set up for the victim. there is a fire house behind me and a jack in the box across the street. this is a very busy intersections. this all happened last night just after 5:30 when several 911 calls came in. people reported hearing shots fired and a car crashed. officers found a 22-year-old man had been shot and killed. a short time later they learned a 48-year-old man had been dropped off at a hospital with a gunshot wound. witnesses say the shooting was tied to a traffic collision. >> right in front of me was this car. suv with two doors open. i watched the crime scene or crime scene investigators come in and take pictures. >> reporter: the wounded victim is expected to survive and police are still looking for suspects and a motive in this shooting. the other victim's name

tara moriarty is joining us live. you're at the home where that shooting occurred. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. the coroner took off 15 minutes ago. we also noticed crime scene lab technician leave a half hour ago after pouring over evidence from the scene. there is still a very large police presence here on dublin meadow street. you can see the alameda county sheriffs office has a mobile command unit. this shooting erupted last night while officers were responding to a domestic violence call. they were forced to shoot an -- the officers said he felt his life was in immediate danger and fired several rounds. paramedics arrived at the scene but they were unable to revive the man. typically in these sorts of cases the officer will be on paid administrative leave. the name of the 18-year-old has not been released. we have reached out to dublin police. we will let you know. >>> the governor will speak at a memorial ceremony for officers and the list includes santa cruz police officers. they were shot and killed in february of last year while investigate

tara moriarty is in that area with more on how police are stepping up efforts to catch the attacker. >> reporter: police have released the sketch of a man who is responsible. he has attacked women along a popular walking trail located between homes off e.g. face owe valley road and cal road. yesterday afternoon authorities released the sketch that shows a teenager. he's suspected of approaching women from behind and groping them. investigators believe he lives in the area. he struck in late march and twice more this month during both daylight and after dark. >> very concerning, you know. i think if i were walking at times when there is not a lot of other people out there. but the morning times you mentioned i'm surprised because there is a lot of walkers. >> reporter: police say the suspect is asian or latino early to late teens. thin to average build with authority black hair. we will talk to more walkers to see if they are taking any precautions. live from concord tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. >>> a registered sex offender is due in court today accused of assault

tara moriarty is joining us live from the home where this happened. you talked to a friend of the family. >> what happened here was not right. he says that the family is in shock after an 18-year-old was shot and killed by police officer. now this all happened last night while three officers were responding to a domestic violence call. investigators say an officer with ere was forced to shoot and kill an 18-year-old after he attacked him with a baseball bat. he thought his life was in immediate danger and fired several rounds. witnesses tell a different story. the suspect did not hit anyone with a bat. they say he was on his knees and diving from a yellow aluminum baseball mat when the officers shot him five times. police say it appears he physically assaulted his mother. the friend says the suspect was a senior at a nearby high school and had just been discharged from the hospital and not acting normally. police have not commented if they will be placed on administrative leave. we have reached out to dublin police. live from dublin i'm tara moriarty

tara moriarty joins us live from the school. what clues do police have? >> we know the witnesses in this case are very young and they are not being very cooperative with police. classes are still going on here today at kennedy high school and there is an increased police presence. we know the detectives are looking for an older model green done vertible -- convertible seen leaving the scene. officers have not said whether this is the suspect's vehicle or witnesses. we just got video in which shows the victim bebeing -- being taken away from ambulance. the victim was shot near cutting boulevard. it happened before school sharts. four teens were seen running away from the scene. after the lockdown lifted, dozens of parents came by to pick up their kids. >> i don't want him to try trying to get an education. we'll keep him out until monday. maybe it will blow over. get his homework he missed. i can keep him safe. i'm not saying they didn't. they did but i can keep him safe. >> the shooting who did the smooting is still at large, on the loose. we think that's

tara moriarty talked to firefighters just about an hour ago, tara, and they think they know what causedthat fire. good morning. >> reporter: investigators believe this fire could have been sparked by some machinery. they are not 100% certain. that's what it is looking like. right now there are landfill workers churning through these huge piles of wood chips with bulldozers dousing them with water. fire crews left last night around 11:00 but the landfill workers are there and the fire is obviously out but not until after six hours of fighting stubborn flames yesterday afternoon. mountains of these bark chips caught fire sending huge plumes of smoke in the sky that could be seen by thousands of drivers on nearby freeways. with temperatures pushing the triple digits this week, it will be warmer. >> we anticipate the next -- in the next few days with the increase in heat that the fumes will be drying out a lot faster. the moisture content of them will be a lot less. they will be ready to burn. >> reporter: people who live nearby are not only smelling the remnants of this fire but now they h

ktvu's tara moriarty joins us with the newsroom with a look at her life and her ties to the bay area.d morning, tara. >> well, good morning. maya angelou was found unresponsive this morning at her home in winston-salem, north carolina. back in 2002, she was here at ktvu, ross mcgown interviewed her right here on "mornings on 2." she had recently been battling health problems last week, she canceled a scheduled appearance at a luncheon. now, she was born in st. louis, missouri. she was molested as a child by her mother's boyfriend and didn't speak about that for five years because of that trauma. she's best known as a writer but she also worked as a singer, dancer and professor. she's written more than 30 books and is best known for her seven auto biographties -- auto biographsries -- autobiographies. along with her many accomplishments, she became the first african-american street car conductor in san francisco. she had many other connections to the bay area, including glide memorial church here in san bernardino -- here in san francisco. we're getting more reaction and will have it f
