the washington post last year, may of this year about the obama administration, the very aggressive way they have been going after government officials who have provided information to reporters, particularly classified information, but not exclusively. i was asked by the committee to explore the relationship between the obama administration and the press in this context of the kinds of work, the relationship between governments and the press and the press's right to work. i was surprised by what i found. it goes way beyond the war on leaks. i have found this administration to be remarkably controlling. i will tell you how that happened. my findings are based on several dozen interviews. news executive, government transparency advocates, government officials. plus, there is a study that i did -- i think these are the most complete accounts that anyone has come up with. during the bush and obama administrations -- so we can make comparisons, and the application of the patriot act and the national surveillance programs. the obama administration's aggressive war on leaks and its efforts to control the flow of information -- is without e

administration continues to dig in its heels. you got that sense from the president's remarks earlier today in the rose garden and based on some of my conversations here, i think that the administration officials believe ultimately republicans will blink because they are divided and if you look at the polls, it shows a majority of americans agree with the administration on this point, disagree with shutting down the government over the issue of the president's health care law even there's still a number of americans skeptical about the president's health care law. you'll see the president continue to do what he did today which is to hold these public events, urge congressional republicans to act, to pass what is called a clean cr bill. he's going to hold another event at the local construction company. that is a tactic he has taken in the past during the payroll tax cut fight. it has been effective but i can tell you jay carney during his briefing just answered a lot of questions about how much ownership president obama has over the shutdown. he acknowledged the fact that of course he is the president but they are still trying to put the blame squarely on republicans. will the public continue

the bush administration. holder had not only stopped it, he had gotten investigation going on it. he had removed and relieved officialsnot only that, julian, they started civil proceedings against the attorney general. that didn't stop them. >> they started civil proceedings that have gone nowhere. you don't hear much from that anymore. so that's not to say that even though, to go back to the uehara analogy, this is an unhittable pitch, it's not to say that republicans won't staemt attempt to swing on it. but to reference the baghdad bomb syndrome, this -- i think the republicans will try to relitigate these old fights, there are a number of fights about administrative decisions that were made by the white house with respect to immigration enforcement, not only deferred action, but decisions that had to be made with respect to sequestration and the release of some undocumenteds because of sequestration policy brought to us by the republicans. so there will be some litigation of these fights. but all of these immigration fights that they will attempt to use against johnson, they have been litigated already and the repu
