we have an update from the d.o.t. that as soon as the temperature goes up, they'll get back on the road and give their crews a break a little bit later on. you were saying 2 degrees can make a difference. don: it really does. 24 degrees is the effective temperature for salt here. and depending on the type of salt or what they mix it with, salt doesn't always work on ice, when it gets colder. so last night, we got around to 24. as we get up to 27 degrees, that will kick back in. barbara: we are at 24 right now. don: tonight, we'll see temperatures even colder. i think we'll go to 22. that means the salt won't do any good. i think we'll see a big re-freeze tonight and won't be surprised to see a lot of closings tomorrow. power back on before. don: yeah, and i think this afternoon actually they should. we'll get up around to 30, 31. and we'll talk about that in just a moment. the winter storm warning is in effect until 6:00. not necessarily because of anything falling although believe it or not, we have reports of freezin

barbara: anthony wilson is live in the first alert storm chaser with a look at how the d.o.t. is preparing. amber says the roads are good now. anthony: we are patrolling the highways most people will be on the next few hours to see how the brining operation is. we are on aviation parkway one place that will be busy as people try to get to and from the airport. we can't really see evidence of brining here yet but elsewhere we have seen places where the d.o.t. has deployed. if you are in one of the northern counties of the viewing area you have seen the white that means the d.o.t. got there to brine portions of ramps and bridges. they did it tuesday night until it got too cold much once it is below 18 it is not as effective so they will be out later this morning after the rush hour to continue that brining operation because when the bit erter cold hits and we get moisture there could be slippery conditions. that is why they try to hit those places we just finished talking about, the major highways, ramps and bridges. that is where you will probably see those crews out in trucks a

this is one bit of evidence that the d.o.t. is already deployed. they got out here last night trying to brine as many of the major highways, ramps and bridges as they could. the cold temperatures were a factor. they didn't stay out once it got below around 18 or so because it became a situation where the boone brine wouldn't be as effective. they will be out again today after rush hour to get ahead of what we believe is going to be some pretty serious went weather. it depends on what comes out of the sky but as long as the pavement is cold there's a risk of slippery conditions they want the pavement prepared so if they have to move things later it will be a little easier for them to do. out and you will see them, especially northern counties, after rush hour, please give them lots of room. they will need it because they are trying to make sure that we are all safe when the weather comes. not if. we will hear more about that from don. meanwhile, we will show you conditions as they merit it and let you know where we are and what you should look for. a
